% scam (or at least fishy)
« on: January 21, 2010, 11:58:43 AM »
Just offering up some recent stats....(yeah, I'm a numbers guy)

Of the most recent contacts I've had (about 15)...

5 just kinda petered out.  A bit of emailing, then nothing.  Not a scammer, but most likely too busy for a relationship with this kind of work OR too many other suitors. (or hell, they just didn't like me!  :P )

3 of them got canned because they sent form letters that I found on the internet as letters from know scammers. I don't mean they were similar, I mean WORD FOR WORD (with maybe pictures, exact name, or birthday changed).

1 of them canned because of "cell phone issues" the infamous (cellphone/bath debacle).

1 of them canned because she sent me a love letter...made out to another guy!! (and WAY more intimate than the stage her and I were at).  Based on what this letter said, she should NOT have been still looking!

So there you have it.  I'm finding that 10/15, (67%) of the contacts I've had are dead ends (for many reasons) and 5/15 (33%) were dead ends for seemingly "suspicious" reasons.

Just wanted to share, and know if you've found the same.

Look at it the positive way.

1/3 are scammers
1/3 are dead ends, but not scammers
1/3 are worth continuing

Seems like a good score.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Looks to me like you are on the right track.  The first round should weed out 95% of your contacts for one reason or another, and that is exactly what you are doing.

Remember, the idea is to wind up with just one, and that is why you start out with hundreds.

Was it ever in? :D   Just like men when the sex is finished.

Like you, many of the RW I contacted simply 'vaporized' after 1-2 emails.  It is a RW trait to leave no word of farewell.  Maybe it is an AW trait too; however, I never did an Internet search for AW because they are everywhere.

Regarding scammers, has the situation changed from 5-8 years ago?  I did not encounter one blatant scammer in my emailing.  So my percentage of scammers was 0 %

Perhaps it depends upon the type of RW one writes and the source (e. g., agency) of her contact information.

Just like in the old times....

1/3 I was hesitant to approach in the first place.
1/3 were involved with other men at the time.
1/3 were quite 'available' and advertised as so.

actually the top third were the winners.. took a lot of patience and a good bit of determination to finally open my mouth.

'Just do it!' IMHO

I'd say it's pretty much a W trait.

But I wouldn't be surprised to hear that men often do the same with online contacts.

new on this site but not new to looking for russian women on a paid site, my stats are awful

12 emailing which petered out into "how is the weather"

at least 5 which seemed to be going ok until "at the ladies request this profile has been removed" i.e things were obviously going more ok for some other lucky guy

6 were like talking to a wall so lost interest after 2 letters

1 possible scam, (chatted for about 8 hours, at some great expense, next day she was completely oblivious to our lengthy chat)

4 invites to ukraine, of which i have so far accepted 1 which i will be doing this weekend woop woop
too young to be world weary, too old to act innocent, the incarnation of gentlemanly optimism, and the downfalls that come with it
