Don't do this in Ukraine!

yeah see, you muts should listen up...
if you are a woman and are ever thinking about having children...
do NOT go to the bloody Chernovil Exclusionary Zone a.k.a. “Chep”...

kinda along the line of, “it ain’t the heat, it’s the humidity”
in Chernovil...
“it ain’t the background radiation, it’s the hotspots!”

by Ukr law, tour operators are supposed to issue dosimeters to each paying tourist
and log the results, but no one wants to get shut down over exposure
so the meters are calibrated WAY, WAY off...

I went in rogue, after a tour first and brought two meters with me,
one was a conventional geiger-meuller detector, I did the 90V tube power supply myself
and a germanium diode gamma-ray detector I bought off Ebay...

I went, only after I was sure I was not going to father more children...
but it is MUCH more dangerous for a woman to go there than for a man...
because a woman at 18 has all the eggs in her ovaries she will have for the rest of her life
while a man constantly regenerates sperm...
so a woman who goes to chernovil, and stands in a hotspot
is exposing her ovaries and her eggs to a high amount of gamma radiation
caused by the cobalt-60 in the reactor core...
if she was REALLY unlucky she’d get some of it stuck to her shoe
and then instead of being exposed for minutes or hours, it might be for days...

the hotspots are caused by tiny pieces of the reactor core that were blown into the upper atmosphere from the reactor explosion....

they fall in an inverse square density proportional to the distance from the reactor, plus natural erosion just seems to grind it up and make it finer and finer, you can even breathe it...

so until you had your kids ladies, don’t do the equivalent of having 100 chest x-rays straight into your ovaries just while standing on a pinhead sized piece of the core...

word to the wise...

please ladies, don’t be the star of the next episode of “The Incompetence Opera”
by having a child with major birth defects because you spent a day at Chernovil

along with the above caveats, do not go in the late summer when it is hot and dry, the background levels rise quite a bit because of the dust
