What to expect for RW at tourist visa interview

(1/2) > >>

DCcowboy:
I know it is rare to be granted, I have a specific question. Has anyone's SO gone through a Tourist visa interview? And what can my girlfriend expect to be asked? That is all I have to ask.

DaveNY:
These are some typical questions that she might be asked.

This is the refusal rate for B1 and B2 visas combined. Russians have a good chance of getting a visa. In NYC there are lots of Russian speaking tourists so it's probably realistic.

I have been told that tourists in general have a better chance of getting a US visa if they're part of an organized group tour. Don't know if that helps.

DCcowboy:
Thank you! For some everything I googled did not come up with that.

BillyB:

A person is usually denied or approved before the interview takes place. Meeting the criteria or not for a tourist visa is determined by the interviewer after they look at all documents which takes place before they talk to the applicant. The actually interview isn't going to help get a tourist visa but it can hurt it. Interviewers also have a lot of discretion. Some interviewers deny more than they approve when others approve more than deny.

DCcowboy:
Thanks Billy. Fingers crossed.
