Title: Ukraine-might-be-designated-as-major-non-nato-usa-ally

In particular, as the embassy reported, the draft bill envisages assigning Ukraine the status of a major U.S. non-NATO ally which would allow the U.S. to provide Ukraine with weapons under a simplified procedure.

the Ukrainian embassy said, the bill aims to amplify Ukraine’s defense, particularly through “providing military hardware, selling lethal weapons to Ukraine’s Armed Forces, as well as enhancing Ukraine’s ability to confront Russia’s cyberattacks.”

Furthermore, it envisages designating Ukraine as a major non-NATO ally for the period of time up until Ukraine joins the 29-nation alliance in the future, according to the embassy. This status assigned by the U.S. government marks countries that are allies to the U.S. and have a strategic partnership with Washington but are not NATO member nations.

It particularly allows U.S. partner nations to enjoy extended access to U.S. military equipment designated for sale or as defense aid as well as priority deliveries of U.S. military equipment.

Also, an allied nation’s businesses have the opportunity to bid on certain contracts to repair and maintain U.S. military equipment outside the United States.

Since 1989, over 15 countries across the world have been assigned this status, namely: Australia, Israel, Egypt, Japan, South Korea, Jordan, New Zealand, Argentina, Bahrain, the Philippines, Thailand, Kuwait, Morocco, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tunisia.  Since 2003, Taiwan is also de facto treated as a major non-NATO ally.

funny story...
we sell javelin anti-tank missiles all around the world
but only Ukraine has to store the missiles in special bunkers that have real-time  24/7 video monitoring and alarm on each missile (with control manned by US military)!
cuz the US doesn't trust Ukrainians to not sell them on the black market
half of Ukraine's weapons inventory disappeared into the black market

but Russia knows where each of these bunkers is located
so Iskanders have been targeted on each of them for quite some time
Wagner group has offered 10 million USD to any Ukrainian who brings them one
if you had a javelin sensor and could test it under laboratory conditions
you might be able to figure out how to defeat it
making it almost useless by NATO

I saw a NATO flag type of flower bed when in Ukraine a few weeks back. It was in central Kiev down the hill from the Marinsky Palace and near the Junction of the Dnipro Hotel. Looks like they are deeply interested in forming a set up with NATO.

The strategic situation with Ukraine's Oil dependency on Russia is also off concern to the US at the moment. Russia looks set to fulfill its threat of cutting off oil to Ukraine in 2020 next year so they will need an answer fast on that one or life could get a lot tougher, then Ukrainians may want to actually join Russia, lol.

The two forum muppets post consequitive bollox ..

1/ Trench - you DO realise that even during the turbulent politics of the noughties- and up to Yanu' running away - rather than face the music - that both 'sides' agreed NATO membership was off the agenda ?

It has become an asperation of the majority of Ukrainians since Crimea was taken by forcibly taking control of the peninsula, rounding up UA militarty personnel and the 'away games' in E. Ukraine ...

Please allow your scribes to be seen by futures partners in most parts of UA befre you visit ... it will filter out lots of women who will dump you when they realise .. 'LoL'

2/ Silly BillyB - your 'Trampu' is about as clueless as to reality as you..

The Germans ARE reliant on Russian gas and have seen suppiles reduced cut in RU spats with UA and BY over payments

This does not mean 'support' for Kremlin policy - is this getting through ?

Alienating yet another NATO ally - 'real smart'

Merkel has been in power as long as she has because she has been smart and many Germans simply didn't WANT to spend money on either more troops or building Nuclear Power stations to plug an energy gap
