One of the offspring of Trump's tough talk with immigrants, the wall, and the recent deportations, is the illegals are living in more fear than they used to.  For example, enrollment is down fairly massively in the adult school ESL classes. My wife has numerous friends that are illegal, they are hard workers and generally good people.    The unintended consequence is that those that are here are not as likely to integrate into society.  It will drive our nation to have more of a society within a society.

The protests in Mexico don't concern me much, but those protests will soon be here and the numbers will be in the millions.  Do we REALLY need to have this happen?  I can see taking a hard line on further entrants, but I also see the need to bend quite a bit for the law abiding ones that are already here.  Given the totality of the situation, personally, I don't think using phony papers/ID in and of itself is enough of an offense to warrant deportation.

Mexicans march against Trump: 'Bad hombre for the whole world'

Mexicans took to the streets Sunday to air their grievances against President Donald Trump and to protest corruption in their home country.

Two separate demonstrations, which together drew an estimated 20,000 people, merged on Mexico City's main avenue, Paseo de la Reforma, in a march mostly focused on the new US President.
Marchers convened on the avenue near the US embassy, where riot...

Just saw this on Visa Journey.
Supposed to be some drafts of possible next round of Executive Orders on Immigration and Immigrants.

That's a lot of initiatives.  Are RW banned yet?

There has been much protest about the recent ICE raids that have rounding up people in large numbers around the country and deportations of those with a criminal record.  .

Most news accounts attribute this to Trump.  Some basic facts.

       1.  ICE is merely enforcing existing laws. These raids and deportations are not a response to a Trump EO.

       2.  The raids done this past week were planned while Obama was President.

      3.   Many such raids were performed during Obama's administration without news coverage, yet this has now become news.

Here's a nice little reporting by Washington Post regarding Stephen Miller's (TRUMP) statement made against the banned nations.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/02/13/stephen-millers-claim-that-72-from-banned-countries-were-implicated-in-terroristic-activity/?utm_term=.4364316a220c

Read as written, and somewhere along the line you have to ask exactly what was Washington Post trying to accomplish in this article. Is somehow money laundering become *inconsequential*, especially when it was done to benefit Hezbollah?

"...But it’s important to note that being convicted of material support is not always evidence that the person was planning a terrorist attack or terrorism-related activities...."

Our country has gone bonkers!

Hypocrisy?!?

That was 2005. That was before Sen. Obama, like most everyone else, got their political campaign finances from numerous SuperPACs (those that directly profits from cheap labor) that paid their way into their aspired Washington seats.

Not sure if 'selling one's soul to the devil* can be termed 'hypocrisy'.

Introduced 13 February 2017 by Senator Cotton from Arizona

Read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

S.354 - A bill to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate the Diversity Visa Program, to limit the President's discretion in setting the number of refugees admitted annually to the United States, to reduce the number of family-sponsored immigrants, to create a new nonimmigrant classification for the parents of adult United States citizens, and for other purposes.

As of 02/17/2017 full text has not been received for S.354

Bills are generally sent to the Library of Congress from GPO, the Government Publishing Office, a day or two after they are introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. Delays can occur when there are a large number of bills to prepare or when a very large bill has to be printed.

There are currently two categories of Family Related Immigration:

Immediate Relative Immigrant Visas (Unlimited): These visa types are based on a close family relationship with a United States (U.S.) citizen described as an Immediate Relative (IR). The number of immigrants in these categories is not limited each fiscal year. Immediate relative visa types include:

    IR-1: Spouse of a U.S. Citizen
IR-2: Unmarried Child Under 21 Years of Age of a U.S. Citizen
IR-3: Orphan adopted abroad by a U.S. Citizen
IR-4: Orphan to be adopted in the U.S. by a U.S. citizen
IR-5: Parent of a U.S. Citizen who is at least 21 years old

Family Preference Immigrant Visas (Limited): These visa types are for specific, more distant, family relationships with a U.S. citizen and some specified relationships with a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR). There are fiscal year numerical limitations on family preference immigrants, shown at the end of each category. The family preference categories are:

Family First Preference (F1): Unmarried sons and daughters of U.S. citizens, and their minor children, if any. (23,400)
Family Second Preference (F2): Spouses, minor children, and unmarried sons and daughters (age 21 and over) of LPRs. At least seventy-seven percent of all visas available for this category will go to the spouses and children; the remainder is allocated to unmarried sons and daughters. (114,200)
Family Third Preference (F3): Married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens, and their spouses and minor children. (23,400)
Family Fourth Preference (F4): Brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens, and their spouses and minor children, provided the U.S. citizens are at least 21 years of age. (65,000)

I realize this was just an introduction and likely stands to be reviewed/scrutinized, but was any numeration included in this bill, do you know? They've tentatively estimated the cut to be 50% during the inception, heavily favoring 'younger' family-based immigration applications, not sure if this still stands in that bill.

It'll be interesting.

The info indicated full wording isn't available until printed by GPO, which can take a few days.

Trump weighs mobilizing Nat Guard for immigration roundups

The Trump administration is considering a proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border, according to a draft memo obtained by The Associated Press.

The 11-page document calls for the unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana.

Four states that border on Mexico are included in the proposal — California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas but it also encompasses seven states contiguous to those four — Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, ....

AP made sure they noted this info was in a draft report, except now the media is painting it as though it is a core inclusion in the plan. The intent of course is to further foment fear and retribution over nothing. It's to get opposing knee jerk reactions in the way you're fostering here.

If the national guards is ever used, it is very likely to assist in securing the southern border now, during and at the completion of the border wall, which is currently underway (planning stages).

You seem irritated that this has been brought up at all.  It doesn't appear that the order would be implemented, but it is, or was on the table or drawing board.  There is a reason why the memo was written, and the people involved felt empowered enough to consider such measures...which all goes to WEIGHING.  I wouldn't doubt that Trump weighed the choice, and perhaps quickly decided against it...resistance would be too great, and maybe some in the national guard would outright disobey the order, which could cause unnecessary chaos.  It appears he is making a good choice.

Unlike the fantasy lady you live in, I'm  glad the story has come out, and people are seeing how the groundwork can be laid for such contingency plans.

Yup, I see how the media is trumping up the report.  I'll be curious to see if Trump himself has a comment, or if he just leaves this one alone.

Should you take your phone to the United States?

I don't mind what any 'border agency' reads on my phone / computer... This article relates the experience of one NASA engineer - and we don't know WHY they might have been 'interested' ..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39003392

''Was there a danger that I would be forced by border officials to unlock my phone or hand over my social media passwords?

The {UK} Foreign Office told me their travel advice did not cover this subject because they had not received any calls about it. But they did suggest that if I happened to be trapped in immigration at JFK airport with a border agent demanding my passcode, I could call the British embassy and arrange a lawyer.

As for the American embassy, well I called before lunchtime on Thursday and got a perfectly pleasant response. They would need to speak to Washington and would get back to me later about the matter of my smartphone and my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

As I write, it's Friday morning and I've heard nothing. Perhaps Washington has other matters on its mind. So perhaps I'd better take what I believe is known as a "burner" phone the next time I fly across the Atlantic.''

But then again...potential taxpayers are being aborted everyday.

I know several FSU folk who's first port of call was Florida and some stayed .... I don't believe getting pregnant by a US citizen  - to be able to stay - was on the agenda ..

Were you being serious ?
