Advise on traveling from Ukraine to Europe
« on: June 24, 2019, 01:59:28 PM »
I'm taking another Ukraine trip in Aug-Sept timeframe to Ukraine.  I didn't really do much planning on previous trips but would like to get outside of Ukraine and Russia this time around.  Wife has non-biometric Ukrainian Passport (USA Green Card).  There isn't time to get a biometric passport by mail.  I don't think getting on arrival will work either, so she will have to get Visas everywhere she goes. I only have 3-6 extra days.

Looks like I 4 options:

Tours from Kyiv or Lviv - She has done this before but its difficult to get information on them.  Afraid travel will waste most of my time.

Train or Bus - I've seen the advertisements for luxury buses from Kyiv that stop in Lviv, Krakow and Prague.  I've already been to Lviv via the train, which I liked and think it goes onto Krakow then Prague also.

Multi-destination hop back home - Looks like it would add only a couple hundred to return cost  (I priced Croatia and Amsterdam just to see) the downside is I would have more luggage to deal with.

Fly out roundtrip from Kyiv to another destination while I'm there.  This looks the best on paper.  I assume I am going to get nickle and dimed on these cheap flights ($50 to Vienna on Laudamotion ?, $40 to Krakow on RyanAir.

And creative advise to hit 1 or 2 more locations fairly quickly?  If the hydrofoil still ran from Vienna to Budapest that would have been perfect.

Lot of options. The best option is probably what your wife wants. Educate her what the pros and cons of each option are.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

when I used to live in Crimea with my wife we could just walk into the office of a travel agent and book a plane ticket to Berlin
easy, it'd take 10 min and I could pay by Credit Card...

then from Berlin you can GO TO Paris or Amsterdam
last summer Amsterdam was packed with young Ukrainian women
I heard Russian spoken EVERYWHERE!

In November wifey and I took RT flights from Kyiv Zhuliany to Bratislava via Wizz Air.  About $150 for both of us, with checked in luggage for me.  They had other destinations as well - Vienna, Prague, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Krakow, etc.

We spent a week there - 4 days in Bratislava and 3 days in Vienna.  We took the train to Vienna - 1 hr ride for about $12 each way.   There's a train about every hour.

Wifey had a biometric passport, so she didn't need a Shengen visa.  I'm not sure what is the best way for your wife to get a visa.

Wife has non-biometric Ukrainian Passport (USA Green Card).

Never heard of this combination thingy before.

The non-biometric Ukrainian passports can be used until they expire. Many people still use them.

You can still apply for and get non-biometric passports, you have a choice.

c5h,

without your wife having proper documentation to leave Ukraine to EU, maybe you should consider staying in Ukraine and visit Carpathians. There is Kamyanets Podilski (national park), Khotyn, Chernivtsi, and maybe Ivano Frankivsk and Lviv too on your journey

I don't think that is accurate, at least, not if one reads the law.

Internal passports are moving to biometric as well.  On those, a person has a choice.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

If you read again, no mention of internal or international passports was specified.

At moment, you can go to offices, apply and get a non-biometric passport

She doesn't view it as an issue (having a older but valid non-biometric) passport, can just get a Schengen Visa in the first country she visits and then gets stamped in each we go through.  I'd like to travel has hassle free as possible of course.

you can get your passport in 48 hours in Kyiv by paying extra money...
but this was a few years back, you might be able to check somehow if this is still possible today....
it means you have to go in person and just offer extra $$
I have done this in Ukraine many years ago expediting my wife's passport
so I DO KNOW that this can be done...
once you have that should not be hard to get a shenghen visa providing she has no "black marks"
last summer, Amsterdam was just full of young 20 some-things from Ukraine
I met and spoke with quite a few, love their dialect
so looks like visas ARE being issued

guys, if you sponsor some lower middle class blue collar woman in her early to mid 20s from some large industrial Ukrainian city
or from some run down little village
to a vacation with you in Amsterdam, she will be your loyal obedient companion
THEN...
you take her into a "Coffee Shop" and get her "wasted" for the first time in her life on Cannabis
and THEN you take her back to your top end airBnB apartment....
and you can do whatever you want with her and she will respond with TREMENDOUS "Enthusiasm"!!!!!!!!...

and this is the kinda life you single guys could be playing
for a few years before you get married
but noooooooooo......
you're ALL gonna end up being nefarious self abusers like Bee Farmer
just accept this...

Hahaha

In August, I would also recommend a beach with real sand on it.
FSUW love frolicking in a bikini at the beach and real sand (rather
than rocks) has long lasting aphrodisiac effects as well.

One of the good things about FSUW marching straight off to the
shower before bedroom adventures begin ensure that you don't
have to worry about the negative abrasive effects of beach sand
(provided you wash yourself fastidiously as well).

FSUW are not for entry level daters

I don't remember the name of the beaches, but from the northern part of Amsterdam take the main highway heading West, drive for about 45 minutes
and there's a park type beach
beautiful sand
not too crowded
pretty laid back...
my daughters and I body surfed the gentle waves
water was cold!!!
beautiful sky over the North Sea
gulls coasting in the breeze

I got a big surprise once, way back when.

Was at beach with an (otherwise brilliant) FSU gal and we were in the water swimming also.

Came back into hotel room (right on the beach) and immediately she pulled down my swimming suit and wanted to perform oral on me.

I pushed her away saying . . . don't you realize that water water filled with all manner of bacteria, chemicals, etc.

I am glad I checked before buying tickets but it would be pain to make this happen.  Schengen from USA is typically not needed, so the process is a pain, we would have to travel to Washington DC to visit the foreign embassy (Czech in our case) to get the  Schengen for her before the trip.

Grabbed very cheap airfare on Swiss to Kyiv already from my local USA airport.  I've been to Istanbul before and we would like to go together, it just makes more since to do the free layover via Turkish on a future trip to Ukraine.

Still weighing other options.

Flights to Odessa on Skyup are $37 or so.  Belarus and Baltic states are the other places Ukrainians with non-biometric passport can go.

Traveling to Washington DC area embasy to get a visa is still an option

Hitting a embassy in Kyiv to get a visa as soon as week get there (about 1 week prior to other travel) may be possible but risky.

I'd still really like to go to Croatia but unclear on her status to travel there.

For visa or passport is not really enough time (summer time - everyone's travel) It is better to make a plan in advance for the direction without a visa - Istanbul is actually a great choice.
