Here's a story I remember reading about in 2003. I lost track of the story and wonder what ever happened to the women?

UNITED NATIONS - The Bush administration
acknowledged for the first time that the Coast Guard
had intervened in the historical rescue of former
Soviet Union women who were trying to reach
U.S. shores from Cuba.
In a statement from the White House, Press Spokesman,
Leon Freeship announced that 500 former Soviet Union
women left over from the previous regime had attempted
to cross into U.S. waters aboard several boats. However,
they were intercepted by the Coast Guard just miles from
reaching their objective.
The women claimed asylum once aboard the Coast Guard
cutter Albatross. Meanwhile the White House is looking
into claims from the women of abuse by the INS. Many women
told stories of excessive delays in acquiring the required
visas through normal channels and were forced to act on
their own initiative.
There were unconfirmed reports that Russia may boycott
next years economic summit on foreign bride exchange
if the U.S. allows the women to remain.
A spokesman from the Russian Embassy in Washington has
neither confirmed nor denied that his government is a
major trading partner with the U.S. for women attempting
to emigrate to the U.S.
Meanwhile the woman remain aboard the Albatross without
makeup or proper clothing. Many of the women are reported
to have only bikini's or lingerie. The Albatross crew is
doing their best to comfort the women until a decision is
made by the White House which could take several months
according to officials at the INS.
