I thought that the diagram on the board was a pointed object passing into a circular object.  Or am I just obsessed?

I had my last calculus course back in 1984? but I can't remember any of it.

We go Tuesday for Ochka's Green Card interview.

Today during our exercise walk, she was asking what we would do if she was denied.

I told her there was virtually zero percent that she would be denied.

But she persisted . . . what would we do . . . if ?

I told her it wouldn't be a problem for me because there were plenty of other women in Ukraine to bring over.

Seems I will not get any home cooked meals for awhile.

Went to Ochka's Green Card interview today.

Everything seemed to go OK, but I/O said this office never tells applicants they are approved on the spot, as do some other offices.

However, she sort of hinted that the Green Card would  be coming soon.

And, after we got home from a long day of shopping and eating, the email messages from USCIS had arrived saying Green Card was in production.

I told Ochka I was most happy that I wouldn't have to go through with this again with another gal later.  She liked my humor.

It is harder and harder each year to find real leather shoes locally.

So after the interview and eating at Mexican Restaurant, we went to the Gigantico Mall in the big city.

Now, you won't believe this, but the Louis Vuitton and Manolo Blahnik shoes that Ochka bought fit better and felt better on her feet than the store brands.

She was sure of it.

Also, of possible interest was fact that the I/O boldly mentioned that Ukrainians were at or near top of list for marriage visa fraud.

I didn't pursue this with the I/O because I didn't want her to focus too much time on it.  So I diverted attention by mentioning the case of the Chinese man and his daughter who had the massive million dollar scheme of fraudulent marriages between Chinese women with money and homeless (some) AM in Los Angeles.  She had read about that also.

Anyway, I was somewhat surprised she said this about Ukraine.

I knew from way back that Ukrainians were near the top for tourist visa fraud; that is coming, overstaying and fading into the ethnic workplace underground.  But I didn't know there was that much marriage fraud going on . . . at least in recent years.

However, it might be true that the number of fraud cases with Ukrainians are relatively high, simply because the number of AM-UW marriages are relatively high.

Anyone else have any info about this?

I initially thought maybe this situation is why they delayed even scheduling our interview for nearly 9 months; but then Doug and his wife did not have this delay.

Green Card arrived in mail today . . . and it was actually Green.

I had seen some in previous years that were far from Green actually being somewhat Pink, and people were always asking why they were called Green Cards when they weren't green.

Now they are Green in color.

Bridge of Spies movie.

We saw it today.

Highly recommend it.

Take your FSU gal and think in some amazement how you and she are together watching this movie.

Ochka has become pretty good friends with a couple of professors from Poland.  Friday night one of them hosted a party and invited us.  I was a little bit surprised that there were 12 other couples there . . . all Polish.  Didn't know there were so many in town.

They were all PhD professors in the sciences or MDs; both men and women.  So a really high caliber group of people.  I was the only native English speaker, but they all had pretty good English, of course.

Many of them had gone to Oxford or Cambridge in England and most all had children in (or completed) doctoral programs at Stanford, Ivy League schools, etc.

And quite pleasingly, almost all of them individually made a point of coming to sit beside Ochka and me to chat a bit; while the others could be together gabbing away in Polish.  One man had talked to me for about 10 minutes before he commented "you seem to have very good English."  I laughed and told him I was from USA.  He had mistakenly thought I was from Ukraine, along with Ochka.

Also, these people really know how to party.  A lot of drinking and dancing.  But drinking was wine only, no hard stuff which was kind of surprising.  Many of the men danced with Ochka, but I didn't ask any of the other gals to dance.  Ochka is really good at dancing the Polka, which I hadn't really known about.

I knew from previous encounters with EE people that they tend to have more 'at home' parties than Western folks.  This is a carry over from Soviet times when it was not either 'safe or acceptable' to do such in public.  At least that is what I have been told over the years.

All of these folks were in 40s and 50s, so had grown up behind the Iron Curtain when it was still down.

No real beautiful gals, but most had kept fairly fit and trim.

The only drawback of the evening was that most of them lamented the lack of more 'socialized' services in USA.  I get quite irritated at people who come to USA because it is the best country in the world . . . and then want to change USA toward the failed systems where they came from.

Larissa and I went to see Bridge of Spies last night.  Agree, it is a good movie.

Has anyone learned the secret to how to keep your FSU woman from talking during movies or TV shows?   ;D

Ochka does not talk at the movies, but I often tell her things that I think might have been confusing to her.  We always go during mid-afternoon when only 2-6 other people are in the theatre and sit distant from others, so no one is bothered by my talking to her.  Plus I turn and talk directly into her ear, so voice can be very soft.

At home, we watch a lot of stuff that has been recorded, and she sometimes asks me to pause the show so she can get a clarification from me.

Don't be such a snob.  :)  A lot of the "failed" systems in such places have not failed at all - they're just different from what you're used to, so don't assume that they're necessarily inferior.

So what?  That doesn't necessarily mean that EVERYTHING they left behind was worse than they encounter in the USA.

Rather than complaining, they could become active to change that which they believe could be better.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten
