Four Year Wonders Got Married: Ochka and ML

Where is the man of the house at in the second photo? Doing the heavy lifting of a camera? Don't tell me you don't have a license to operate a shovel or wheelbarrow.

ML knows nothing about machinery.

Thanks fellas for the good words about my Ochka.
She can outwork me and most any other man or woman.

Gator, that is actually a pile of topsoil that I had brought in after it was skimmed off the top of driveway for one of the new houses being built.

Our garden is full of large rocks and has mostly clay.  So we have been digging out the rocks and clay, hauling it off, and then replacing with the topsoil.  Ochka even insists on sifting the topsoil to remove smaller pebbles.

We did this same thing last year but never finished with the entire rather large garden area.  So this year we are trying to fix up some more of the area.  This past week was spring break from the university, so we got quite a bit done . . . but still more to go.

Those of you who want a woman who will carry more than her share of the work . . . go Ukrainian.

Actually, I would just as soon not do the garden and buy from others who do a garden . . . but Ochka will hear none of that.

May 1, 2016.  Orthodox Easter day.

Ochka didn't really have the time (because preparing final exams and holding extra review sessions, etc), but still insisted she had to make Paska (Easter bread) and Pyrizhky.

To me, the Paska is rather tasteless, but she likes it a lot.
So she makes the Pyrizhky for me.
Two different fillings in the Pyrizhky;  cherries and apples.

She is embarrassed that her Paska doesn't look very pretty and is lacking decorations, and she figures that Big Bill's spouse prepared something pretty fancy, but . . .

Big Bill's spouse prepared something pretty fancy, but . . .

It's not a competition  ;D
I didn't get to eat any of it since I'm in Cheyenne and she is in North Dakota.
I'll be flying to see her on Thursday.

Say, Bill, are you in Cheyenne often? Cheyenne is my American headquarters when visiting the US from Lviv. I'll be there, with my Ukrainian 'better half' (her first US trip), in two weeks!  8)

Had a 'Ukrainian' end-of-semester picnic at our house yesterday.
17 persons attended (one unmarried), all university associated.
All were born in Ukraine except for one Russian, one Frenchman and myself.  We three are married to Ukrainian women.  The Russian man was of Jewish faith (my guess), was no lover of Russia (thank God) and had left Russia as soon as he could.
Most of the married couples seemed to be within 5 years of each other.
But for two FSU couples, the man might have been 15 years or so older than the woman.
Two of the couples met and married here in USA, even as all 4 were born in Ukraine.
Females were not all 'lookers' but there were no 'porkers.'
Most all attending had PhDs and remaining Masters.
All were very happy to be living in USA; there was no 'bitching and moaning' about USA, and Ochka said, that in private conversations with the females, none complained about their husbands.  They also all lied and told Ochka what I great guy I seemed to be.
When all were gathered, I announced that they should speak in Ukrainian (which they [including the Frenchman] did) and not worry about me.   And, out of kindness, all of them rotated over to me (one or two at a time) and spoke in English.
Luckily, yesterday was one of the few 'rain-less' days for the past several weeks, even as it wasn't quite as warm as I had hoped.
A good time was had by all, there was too much food (of course) and wine was the only drink consumed.

This afternoon we went to the new movie "Mother's Day."

A light hearted comedy with some romance which was a nice change of pace from the killings which occur in most of the current TV series.

Ochka really enjoyed it, and it brightened our mood greatly on an overcast rainy day.

For me, nice to view a bevy of good looking slender women with great toned and taunt bodies:  Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Britt Robertson, Courteney Cox, and for really smoking hot . . . check out Shay Mitchell.

There is a plethora of good looking slender women with toned and taunt [sic] (I think you meant 'taut') bodies here in Lviv!  ;) Don't need to wait for a flick to view them.

Soon Ochka will be leaving for her annual month-long visit back to Ukraine.

She has been preparing extra-special meals and cooking many things to put in freezer that I can eat later.

And, now that the semester is done, she can take more time to look extra-special for me.

Always good to hear from Pat. I like to believe when someone is missing for some time, they were abducted and experimented on by aliens. I don't want to be the only person here that had that happen.

Ochka arrived safely in Kyiv and is now sleeping at family's place.

She is going to check on current apartment prices and maybe we will buy another unfinished unit or two to finish out.  Don't know if apartment prices in Hryvnia have tripled to keep pace with the tripling of Hryvnia to dollar the last year or two.

I feel bad for Ochka.  She put a lot of work into the garden and now the strawberries are really producing and she is not getting to eat any.

Also tons of leaf lettuce ready; and radishes which I don't eat.

Does that mean you're not getting any either?

the strawberries look tasty...i remember as a kid strawberries were small, bright red, and super tasty...now store bought ones are the size of a plum but the taste is much duller.

Yes these taste like real strawberries.  The way they all used to taste in our youth when mostly what you ate was grown by grandparents or other local folks.

We almost never buy strawberries, tomatoes or peaches from supermarkets.  They mostly taste like styrofoam (and don't ask me how I know what styrofoam tastes like).

Blueberries, grapes and apples are fine though.

Right now, mangoes from several supermarkets are tasting great.  Must be the season for them.

I might have some tomatoes in a month or so.

Last fall we found a good source for peaches, but they are  only available in approx a 2 week window.

Just today I washed carefully, cut-up, smashed with two sizes of potato mashers and added powdered sugar to about 250 strawberries.

Then I put in several cup and half size sealed containers and into freezer.  This was at Ochka's request and direction.  I don't like doing any of this type of stuff, but . . .
