Food Shortage in Crimea
« on: June 10, 2014, 07:31:56 AM »
Aksionov officially admitted the food crisis in occupied Crimea

The so-called acting head of the Crimea, which has been occupied by Russia, Sergiy Aksionov, ordered his deputy Mikhail Sheremet today to organise “green corridors” at the border for the sped-up admittance of produce imported from the territory of continental Ukraine to the peninsula.

The according order was given by Aksionov in the morning of June 9th at the apparatus session in the “Council of Ministers” of Crimea, reports “Glavcom.”

“It is necessary to diffuse the situation during this week,” said Aksionov after the report of the Crimean “Minister of Economical Development” of Crimea Svetlana Verba regarding the pitiful state of affairs at the food market of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the swift increase in prices on socially significant groups of goods.

Aksionov also ordered to organise daily monitoring of prices on socially significant types of produce in cities and regions of the peninsula.

“Nobody will go on holiday before we regulate the situation,” threatened the leader of Crimean separatists.

Earlier it has been reported that the Russian state budget will not give money to the development of the economy of occupied Crimea.

Didn't 110% of the people down there vote to join Russia?  They'll figure it out before it's all over with.

Actually, there is a lot of produce grown locally in Crimea. If you drive around there are people selling fruit and vegetables along the highway and in the towns. I don't see a big problem during the harvest season.

I hope that the large beer factory is still working. Various sea foods are available. If they have enough water the produce should be OK.

You should stock up on Crimean wine and brandy.

We've made it a point to look at the bar codes to see if it was made in Russia and not buying it.  Most of Ukrainians that we know are doing the same thing.

Unfortunately that also includes the excellent wine

If they have enough water the produce should be OK.

I was under the impression this was the problem. Ukraine has slowed down the flow of water to  the region significantly.

Perhaps Ukraine should cut a deal to swap water for Crimea for natural gas from Russia. Something along the lines of 1 liter of water for every 100 cubic meters of gas.  That might help out on those billions they owe Russia.

Many 'futurists' predict water (non-salted variety) will cost more per unit than gas, oil, etc. . . . at some point in the future.

But Russia has a huge store of such water.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Ukraine should charge for water based on the energy content of the hydrogen in H2O and thank Gazprom for the idea

Yet more bad news for Crimeans. (Google translated )

Truckers threaten to riot and block the Crimea

Truck drivers arriving in Crimea from Russia, are preparing protests. They are going to cut off the route to ferry terminal of Novorossiysk-Feodosiya.

Some of the truckers rejected locked on the peninsula. They do not have the funds to pay way back, as the Russian authorities decided to sharply increase tariffs for the transportation of trucks, reports RTR.ua.

If the tariff does not reduce, drivers refuse to haul goods on the peninsula and threatened to cut off the route.

Due to the fact that ferry Kerch-Caucasus closed to entry of the trucks and the flow of tourists only works on passenger transport, the only route to deliver goods to the peninsula, food and medicine remained steam Novorossiysk-Feodosiya. A couple of days ago, Russian authorities suddenly, without warning, twice raised the tariffs for the transportation of fur from 11.5 to 22 thousand rubles.

Transport Directorate of Russia is justified by the fact that the cargo is still loss-making: the real cost of delivery, the truck ferry from Novorossiysk in feodosiya is 55 thousand rubles.

Except for the two times it was Ukrainian before Russia stole it.

Not to mention Kuban region south of the Sea of Azov and other areas.

I intended my post to be facetious.  We agree on all points
