Boycott Turkey?
« on: July 10, 2020, 06:37:15 AM »
Just saw a headline on BBC news app that Agia Sophia will be made a Mosque. If that is the case I will never use Istanbul as a hub, use Turkish Airlines and refrain from spending money in Turkey. The whole point was it being accessible to tourists.IF this is true... I hope that Turkey will 'wake up' or they are going to have lots of empty hotels.

I regularly holiday in Turkey and this should remain a museum. Atatürk and his modernisation of Turkey is in full retreat(

Didn't it become a Mosque when the minarets were added. The original building didn't have the minarets on the side. Maybe it makes the building more attractive as it balances out the big main bulk of the building but it's not how it was originally intended.

Only a few places that I have visited have given me a 'wow' feeling or maybe taken my breath away.

The interior of Hagia Sophia was one of them.

What else . . . just quick review provides:

First sighting of Pacific Ocean by a mid-westerner
Grand Canyon
Niagara Falls
Aircraft carrier up close
Rocky Mountains from airplane
Tutankhamun's death mask
Several items in Smithsonian Museums
Panorama in Sevastopol
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
