Last trip to Ukraine
« on: October 04, 2019, 07:01:17 AM »
I have noted over the 10 years that I have been coming to Ukraine
that the number of striking young women has diminished considerably.
I think ML said in the past that the women in Ukraine/Russia were not
more attractive, just thinner.  When I started coming to Ukraine, I was
amazed with the number of attractive young women with perfect hair,
nails, and makeup who were incredibly well dressed.  As I sat in the
park near the opera house in Odessa, I would say this number is down
to 1%.  I do agree that the women in Ukraine do not age well, but I
suspect that they do not have access to plastic surgery as more affluent
countries.

I noticed in Odessa many cats and dogs walking around freely.  They
all seemed to mind their own business and leave each other alone.  I
enjoyed feeding the cats in Odessa.  I have not noticed many free
roaming animals in Kharkiv.

The overnight train from Odessa to Kharkiv left at 2125 and arrived at
0848 the next morning.  The lux ticket was 1700 grivna (68 dollars).
I shared the compartment with a young woman who got off in Poltava.
I always take a liter bottle of water with me on the train.  The signs that
I assumed to say that the water is not potable were no longer present,
but I am not going to take the risk.  There was actually a 500 ml of water
in the compartment for each person.  I manage to get some sleep on the
train, but I still feel tired as I arrive in Kharkiv.

Since I need a train ticket to Kiev the day before my return flight, I go
to buy a ticket.  They actually had a foreign traveler window with someone
who spoke English. It was a very pleasant surprise.  The first class ticket
on the express train to Kiev is 785 grivna (30 dollars).  It leaves at 0722
and arrives around noon.  There are two other express trains that leave
later in the day.

I take a taxi from the train station to the Chichikov Hotel.  The hotel is on
Gogola Street.  If I recall correctly, Chichikov was one of Gogol's characters
In "Dead Souls."  I actually have a copy of this book in Russian, but have
not yet attempted to read it.  I get to the Chichikov Hotel, but they do not
have a room ready.  They tell me to check back at noon.  My favorite place
to stay in Kharkiv is the Kharkiv Palace followed by the Superior Resort and
Spa (the golf club).  Unfortunately, the price of the Kharkiv Palace has
doubled since my last stay.  It has a great location.  The green line metro
station (Derzprom) is just behind the hotel and the blue line metro station
(University) is a short walk away.  They are connected underground and
passengers can transfer from the blue line to the green line and vice versa.
There is a poker club down the street and a 24 hour store within a short
walk called делайт (Delight) with fresh fruit, deli, bakery, and packaged goods.
There is also a Kentucky Fried Chicken nearby.  The Kharkiv Palace has a great
gym with weight machines, treadmills, and bicycles.  They have a great
breakfast buffet at the Kharkiv Palace.  They would cook eggs to order and
had fresh fruit and juices.  The price is now a little over 500 grivna (20 dollars).
The bar on the top floor has high end scotch including Johnnie Walker Blue Label
(my favorite) and MacCallan.  The golf club is very peaceful.  Besides golf, they
had tennis courts.  I do not remember the gym.  The Albatross restaurant at the
golf club is very good.  I went there with my interpreter and she tells me that it
is the only place that she knows that serves white tea.  For those who do not play
golf, an albatross is a double eagle or three under par.  The golf club is located on
the outskirts of the city and I had to take a taxi to go anywhere.

I stayed at the Chichikov Hotel on my first trip to Ukraine in 2009.  I remember
turning on the TV and the movie "Two Brothers and a Bride" (aka "A Foreign Affair")
was playing.  The lobby looks the same.  The room seems like it has been recently
renovated.  On my first trip, I remember complaining that the room was too warm.
They had a cage around the thermostat so there was not much I could do.  They
sent a maintenance man who said everything was fine.  Now, I can control the
thermostat.  The room only has a shower and I prefer to have a tub.  The breakfast
is more modest than the Kharkiv Palace, but it is included.  They cook eggs made
to order so it works for me.  The first day in Kharkiv, I have breakfast at the hotel
and then go to bed.  The next day, I take the metro to Heroiv Pratsi.  When I get
there, I try to figure out how to get to the mall.  There has been a lot of construction
since my last visit including a Mercedes dealership.  I finally spot the dolphin mascot
for Dafi and I head for the shopping center.  I enjoy walking up and down the aisles
of the grocery stores and see what they have for sale.  I go to a salon and ask if I can
get a manicure, but it is not possible today.  I have lunch at McDonald's and head back
to the hotel.  On the way, I stop at the Roshen store to see if they have Kievsky Tort.
They are sold out, but they will have some later in the day.  I will be having dinner
with my interpreter and her family on the third day.  I asked my interpreter to try
to contact a woman that I met several years ago.  I was going to go through the
process for the fiancée visa with her, but concluded that she loved my wallet more
than me.  She did respond to an email and said she was unable to join my interpreter
and her family for dinner.  She did say that she was not against meeting briefly over
coffee.  Before dinner, I go to Ave Plaza on Sumskaya Street.  It is a short walk from
the hotel.  I get a manicure on the third floor (the first time that I have ever had a
manicure with a high speed drill looking device) and then go to the Roshen store for
a Kievsky a Tort for my interpreter.  My interpreter picks me up at the hotel with her
husband and five year old daughter.  I remember having dinner when her daughter
was 6 months old.  Her daughter likes milk chocolate so I picked up some that look
like gold coins.  We have dinner at наша дача.  My interpreter chose this restaurant
because they have a children's room and babysitters.  Her daughter has incredible
energy and has trouble sitting still.  I really liked the restaurant.  They have cats
that roam the restaurant and are very sociable.  I have the best steak that I have
ever had in Ukraine.  It is ribeye from the United States.  The borsch was good.  My
interpreter has salmon which she says is excellent.  Her husband has steak and the
daughter has a pasta dish.  My interpreter gets all excited when she sees the most
famous pediatrician in Ukraine dining in the restaurant.  I always pay with cash in
Ukraine.  On my first trip to Ukraine, I was warned about rampant credit card fraud.
My interpreter always laughs when I tell her this.  The bill for dinner is about 6,000
grivna (240 dollars).

The next morning, I notice that the woman that I had contacted asked to meet for
tea.  I bring her a small gift of a perfume that she liked and a chocolate cake.  I
enjoy talking with her.  She practices her English and I practice my Russian.  I would
be happy to correspond with her to improve my Russian.  She has to go back to work
and says goodbye.  I was glad to see her.  I felt like tying up loose ends.

The service at the hotels has been superb.  This is true of some of the stores too.
I still see some service people who do not wish to be bothered.  Cutting in line is a
common occurrence.  I am very careful crossing the street.  I feel there is a Ukrainian
waiting to run me over with their vehicle.  There is safety in numbers.  It is probably ok
to run over a foreigner, but not someone's babushka.

In my last few days in Kharkiv, I think that I will play some poker and continue to
exercise, diet, and hopefully lose weight.

I last visited Ukraine around seven years ago..Kiev in fact...and I was also struck by how few striking women there were .

I do feel the beauty of Ukrainian women has been vastly over-hyped.
Just saying it like it is.

Thanks for the story, although it sounds very sad like you are losing your will to live. ((

Interesting I stayed recently not far from your hotel. I stayed in an apt at 2 Hoholya(Poesii Sq). I normally stay in apts when in Ukraine, I like the ability to cook at times and some privacy..... and always get one with jacuzzi bath!!
Tha Palace is very a nice hotel, good location.

I walked by your hotel when going to Shevchenko park. Did you go to Gorky Park? Very nice parks in Kharkiv.

how many fish you catch depends a lot on the skill of the fisherman and less on the quality of the fish...

based on the stories I read from a lot of guys on this board, I’m not surprised they don’t catch anything...

hmmmm hmmmmmmmmm.....

first, is the when and the where
the when, the absolute BEST time for meeting women in Ukraine, is late March, early April, when the winter weather “breaks" and the first “spectacular" warm weekend....
this is the absolute BEST time to meet women in Ukraine!

the where...
first, you always go to where the fish are, not just to a place that’s easier for you to fish in...
so in Ukraine, you go to the industrial towns like Cherkassy and Dnipro,
and you look around and locate all the “bolshoi zavods”, more than half the employees will be young women and they’ll mainly live within 8 km of the zavods...

so in this area you locate the markets
they’ll either be the familiar western kind, but the other kind will be better
the Soviet Style swap meet kiosk style, either an indoor or outdoor one...
these are literally the best pickup spots to meet women in Ukraine!!!!

when I was 40 year old, I could strike up a random conversation in Russian with a beautiful Russian woman, like making a funny joke about the “gamburger” in the market for instance, and I could just tell from the expression on her face if she would go to lunch with me if I asked her...
ended up with almost 100% success rate, starting from about 50%

and 100% if she went to lunch with me, she would have dinner and sleep with me later that night...

you hook them on your exoticism
that draws their curiosity...

then you show them the good life
all very casually, elegantly
and you treat her very gently, tenderly, lovingly
a smart girl KNOWS what to do next....
hmmmm hmmmmmm...
worked every time!

you have NO IDEA what SEX IS (even if you've had sex with 100 other kinds of women)
until you've been seduced and sexually assaulted by a tall, robust, potato diggin' Ukrainian Village girl ...
but, you get used to it after awhile...

Yes, the sap is rising:  both  in the horse chestnut trees lining Kiev's avenues and in the women walking beneath them.

From May through September there are leaves on those trees.  In contrast, the women have shed their cold weather garb, revealing long legs and perky parts.

When were you last in FSU??  What is the norm is sneakers, in all forms and colors.

I know many beautiful FSU W in their fifties who have not had any help in the form of plastic and yet those viewing the photos doubt it ;)

Guess how old?

Possibly, a greater percentage are less slim and worse have tats ( a BIG turnoff for me )

I don't know how often you go to the FSU... I go frequently - so your observations may have crept up on me ..

When were you last in FSU??

You caught me.  :D   :D :D

Being older, maybe my tastes were not as discriminating as yours.   The upper quartile of FSU women looked real good to me, then and probably now.  Even average women could be bedable dependent upon personality.  You realize plump women need love too.

I never wear sneakers yet I like them on women (the colorful, lightweight designer sneaker, not athletic style).  Seems so natural when paired with lightweight summer garb, especially an open shoulder  sundress and warm summer air lifting the hem halfway up their thigh.    Not many FSUW wore such sundresses but Nature Boys such as me rellsh them - from the days of my youth driving with the top down in my TR3.

I am the same as Moby - my biggest turnoff is a tat larger than a quarter.

I know for a fact there are less beautiful women in Ukraine. I married one and took her out of Ukraine which made the place more ugly.

my Russian wife had a face lift
she's in her late 40s, now she looks like she's in her early 30s....
my daughter's boyfriends are confused when they first meet my wife!

they usually think she's my daughter from a previous marriage or something like that...LOL...
one even tried to "hit on her" and was devastated when he found out who she really was!!!

always so much drama going on when you live around a buncha' Russian women!
I have to crack my whip once in awhile to keep them all "in line"
although, I much prefer rewards over punishment (just withhold reward is punishment enough)
but it does take "a firm hand" to maintain order over a group of Russian women!

The summer garb I saw was no open shoulder, few sundresses, lots of shorts( not the cut off jean type), tops with/without sleeves, with nothing to give one's imagination a twirl.
Well Gator, what if they wore sneakers 99% of the time, would you be craving for heels? ))
For whatever reason, seems like the 'leg' part of ladies are getting shorter with less to see. Yes, you can still see the defined part of their calves.

in Moscva, it was pretty hot in August, so the “grunge look" was very much “in” with young women...

a lot of shorts and t-shirts being worn with sandals and tennis shoes and no socks...
a lot of physically fit sports playing young college women EVERYWHERE!!!

at night, these same young women will be very elegantly dressed to “go out” club hopping with their group of friends, and they all travel together in a big machina convoy to various dance clubs around Moscva so they can be with other popular rich kids like them

the manboys like to show off their jewelry and their girlfriends
and the girlfriends like to show themselves off as well as their jewelry...

man, I saw the look my daughter gave me when she saw a top end $100,000+ Tiffany’s diamond necklace
I just shrugged my shoulders and pointed at her boyfriend
and turned around and walked away....

ummmmm hmmmmmmmmm

gator, to help you get over your impact induced trauma
here is a picture of my wife in a summer dress, just for you man!!!!

The summer garb I saw was no open shoulder . . . tops with/without sleeves,

I couldn't quite figure this one out.

Tops without sleeves . . . yet no open shoulder ?

Krimster,

Indeed you have a fine looking woman.

You express much happiness with your marriage, and I am certain your happiness derives from her abundant qualities other than physical beauty.

He said: Tops without sleeves . . . yet no open shoulder ?

Your picture clearly shows 'open shoulder.'

My confusion remains.  How can there be tops without sleeves that do not also show shoulders?

A trivial concern I realize . . . but I have a trivial mind.

Do not be concerned BillyB,

It was early morning in Tbilisi and it was hotter and more humid than Sochi.

I was wearing shorts...just no shirt.
