A couple of years ago I posted a thread on a ban on wearing the Muslim headscarf, the hijab, in schools in Russia's Stavropol region.  This is a region in the far South of Russia that has quite a number of Muslims.

A poll has recently been taken about Russians' opinions on whether the hijab should be allowed to be worn in Russian schools:

Russians Oppose Wearing of Muslim Hijab in Schools – Poll

Three out of four Russians are against allowing Muslim students to wear hijab head coverings in schools and universities, and the opposition is even higher in Moscow, where 91 percent of inhabitants oppose the practice, a poll released Tuesday indicates.

About 18 percent of Russians believe that Muslim women should have the right to wear religious headscarves to schools, while 74 percent are against it, the poll by the independent Levada Center showed.

The poll comes amid reports of a number of Russian students converting to radical Islam and traveling to Turkey in an attempt to cross the border into Syria and join the Islamic State terrorist group. The reports have prompted Russian politicians, including lawmakers and children's rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov, to call for educational policies that would dissuade students from adopting radical views.

A sociologist at the Levada Center, Karina Pipiya, said that Russians' dislike of hijabs stems from fears of violence spilling over from turbulent predominantly Muslim parts of the North Caucasus ...

Perhaps one of the reasons Russians oppose wearing this type of garment in schools is the fear of weaponry being hidden underneath it. I think it was a hijab wearing Muslim girl who hid a bomb in her garments and blew up a bus in the Volgograd region.

What are your thoughts?

A hijab is just the scarf Muslim women wear.  I don't have an issue with them.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Muslim women's covers:

Hijab (Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, Europe) covers head, neck, shoulders:

Jilbab/Abaya/Niqab (Persian Gulf, Yemen), Chador (Iran) fully cover the figure, leave face/eyes visible:
A few weeks ago I saw a Saudi woman wearing a niqab eat at a nearby restaurant: only her eyes visible, she would lift her mouth cover slightly and slip her fork underneath ::).

Burqa (Afghanistan) full cover:
Milan's "Duomo"

Lots of those in most places now.

Jilbab/Abaya/Niqab (Persian Gulf, Yemen), Chador (Iran) fully cover the figure, leave face/eyes visible:

Yes, we have these here too.

Burqa (Afghanistan) full cover:

And I've seen these here as well.  Although I've never spoken to any of these women, and therefore don't know their particular ethnicity, there are a lot of Afghan refugees in New Zealand.
