Four Year Wonders Got Married: Ochka and ML

Just finished reading this book published in 2007.  Picked it up sometime back for $1.00 at some book sale in a mall.

Quite compelling for those interested in such.  Supposedly the most accurate account yet as previous accounts were incorrectly flavored by Soviets wishing to insert Lenin et al as central figures when, in fact, they had nothing to do with it.

The revolt and take over of the ship was engineered by common seamen led by 26 year old Afanasy Nikolayevich Matyushenko.

The revolt had been planned for many months by sailors serving on many ships headquartered in Sevastopol.  They met on hillsides overlooking the bay and made plans.

Despite the planning, ironically it was put into play almost spontaneously on the Potemkin due to rancid meat being put into the daily borscht.

Don't mess with an Ukrainian's borscht !!!

Very, very extensively researched and documented from hundreds of sources including diaries and notes from the seamen involved, most of whom miraculously escaped execution.  Also was able to draw from previously secret Soviet archives that became available after 1992.

This event occurred in 1905, whereas the revolution was finally reached in 1917; although the result achieved by Lenin and Stalin was not that desired by the young sailors in 1905.  They would have viewed the Soviet system as equally terrible with that they were trying to overthrow.

Sorry, don't quite get my association (in your mind) with the film maker.

Yes, I know about Sergei directing a Potemkin movie . . . but I still don't understand you connecting he and I.

Strange as it may seem to some . . . most of the FSU gals I spent time with, and my current FSU wife . . . all liked to go to McDonalds, especially for breakfasts.

When my wife goes for a month to Ukraine, she tells me one of the things she misses the most is having breakfast with me at McDs or BK, Hardees, etc.

Typically we walk for an hour, and then go to eat to make sure we don't lose any weight.

Thus, this 'close down' is causing her withdrawal symptoms.

So yesterday, when I had to make a run to grocery store for milk and bread, I sneaked over to the frozen aisle and snagged some packages of Bob Evans and Jimmy Dean frozen biscuits with sausage, egg and cheese.

I figured this would take away the edge somewhat and keep her happier during quarantine.

It seemed to have worked . . . so far.

- - - -

As a side note:  I lost about 8 pounds after my GB surgery (not counting the 10 pounds of excess water I lost, that had accumulated from surgery, as is common) because I didn't feel like eating much.
So I have a little room for excessive calorie consumption.
Wife . . . not that room !!!

Breakfast is the most important meal for T.  She said once that she thinks about it all night before going to sleep.

We normally make breakfast at home, unless we're at a hotel.  I always need to book a room rate that includes breakfast.

Funny enough, breakfast is the only meal I'll tolerate at McD's.  The ones in Ukraine seem better, more fancier than the ones here.

Maybe splurge once in a while and get your wife McD's takeout?

It's great to hear you are getting better and are well enough to go to the store.   :clapping:

I am 'banned' from McDs and fast food pumped with sugar .. ;)

Really glad to read you're getting out and eating junk food ..

What do you think causes the complaint you suffer from .... 'bad' diet, may be ?

BTW, when I'm not with SC I put on weight and eat less healthy food ..

That reminds me of Sunday morning breakfasts in the States. What crowds! I should try and do the same with breakfast burritos and other breakfast food items here in Batumi. Right across the street is the old Armenian Apostolic Church.

Quote
Originally a wooden church built in 1873. Destroyed in the 1880s, a new stone church was built with local donations and the works was carried out under the supervision of an Austrian architect. It was used as a planetarium during the Soviet times, which saved the building from destruction. In 1992 the Planetarium was moved to Batumi State University and the church was re-opened.

Restaurants will be allowed to reopen starting June 8th.

Wifey will never shy away from Mickey D's Sausage McMuffin and hash browns. Everytime we set off on the road trip that starts early in the mornings, "Oh Boy! McDonald's here we come!" She'd always say...

Just had that plus coffee at Micky D's this morning. I wake up hours before the wife and that is my favorite meal there. Wife will got to Micky D's with me once a year. She, like most people, crave fatty foods. The reason she'll only go once a year is because she doesn't want to get overweight.

Wife is bugging me that we should watch Chernobyl movie that people are raving about.

But my google search turns up 10 or more movies, some on big screen and some mini series on TV.

Which is the 'correct' one ??

We don't have cable or satellite, so that may rule out the 'correct' one.

It is a HBO series.  Some streaming services may carry HBO.  I believe Hulu does and it may have a free trail subscription.  HBO is likley an add on.

it's on youtube, but...
don't watch it
people have committed suicide after watching it...
whatever the hell you do, if you watch the HBO Chernobyl series
do NOT!!
I repeat DO NOT watch the Soviet Sci-Fi film called "Stalker" right after binging on  Chernobyl
if you do, you will mentally scar yourself
and completely let go of this thing called "Hope"
none of us have any hope of getting out of this...
it's always sooner or later
but one day, it'll be today
for everyone
one way...
or another...
when your number comes up, then it's your turn
at the checkout line

i'd avoid the express line this time
and go for the longest line....

as marie antoinette said for her last words, "please monsieur, a moment longer"

my last words will be, "triage this MFers"

Presumably you have WiFi. Hopefully you also have a smartTV. If so, get amazon Prime, even on a trial basis. They have HBO lined in, then just watched their 2019 miniseries.

Let's try this another way, do you have a smart TV (it's a yes or no question)? You presumably have internet because you are posting here. Have you heard of streaming? You can hook a smart TV up to your wifi and viola' you have cable at your fingertips with no cable connection or a satellite dish. Yes, it is that easy

ML-

Unless your computer is hooked up through the ol' dial-up modem to connect to the internet and post on RWD, you likely have WIFI. This is not the same as cable or satellite subscription services.

SmartTV hooks up through WIFI. If you don't have SmartTV, then your TV can simply become a monitor by hooking it up to such streaming devices like Roku, Playstation, BluRay player, etc...

If these devices above is/are not available, then use the computer you're using and sign up to either Amazon Prime, etc...and watch the show from your computer.

I have similar situation...low data cap, speed sometimes to slow for streaming.

Have you considered something like this;
BASIC FREE TO AIR SYSTEM - No Contract to Sign! - No Monthly Fee for the Programming!

I am considering this system...http://www.rickssatelliteusa.com/globalstarsys400.htm
