How to fake being Russian.

Sandro, I was referring to their practice of referring to a cab as a cob.

Sandro will no doubt shed further light, but my interpretation of this one is that it perhaps goes back to the "Hackney Carriage" (which is still a term in the UK taxi industry) days and given the size of horse being generally between 13 and 15 hands for the most part or a "Cob"..



Moby, we wouldn't understand you? There were several Irish folk camped near up a few years ago at a tourist park, all fairly jovial. I remarked to one that I had little idea of what they were saying to each other and his response was typical self deprecating Irish, 'Don't worry mate, we haven't got a clue either"...

In New England they spell it cab but pronounce it cob.
