Sandro, I was referring to their practice of referring to a cab as a cob.
Sandro will no doubt shed further light, but my interpretation of this one is that it perhaps goes back to the "Hackney Carriage" (which is still a term in the UK taxi industry) days and given the size of horse being generally between 13 and 15 hands for the most part or a "Cob"..



Moby, we wouldn't understand you? There were several Irish folk camped near up a few years ago at a tourist park, all fairly jovial. I remarked to one that I had little idea of what they were saying to each other and his response was typical self deprecating Irish, 'Don't worry mate, we haven't got a clue either"... :D

In New England they spell it cab but pronounce it cob.

This is just one example, along with cuber, bannaner, pawk the caw, etc.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
