New 30 day visa free stay in Belarus
« on: July 25, 2018, 07:58:41 AM »
Recently, my wife just informed me that the Belarus govt. issued a law allowing 30 days stay in Belarus without a visa requirement. Not sure if there are any restrictions to it if anyone knows for sure...... :clapping:  This will work great for me as we are planning a trip to Minsk early next year.

Just curious:  Anyone know how much the 10K of medical insurance costs?

I'll find out but it is same 10K insurance needed for the old 5 day visa free program. Must not be very expensive since you can buy at the airport.

Looks like EUR 31 for a 30 day stay.

There's a few people that will be caught out by non-registration if staying in apartments (5 day limit still applies apparently).

Good thing this link tells us is that it looks like there is no limit to the number of times we can use the 30 day deal in a year. So as long as you have a fly out from Minsk (other than to Russia) then your all good to come back shortly and use the 30 day deal again :) Is what I read into it.

You've been to Belarus, Trench ?

No... OF COURSE not ...  it's another place you're clueless about

Then you'd know that flights from Russia are considered 'international' from RUSSIA to Minsk....

I think you mean 'internal'.

I believe the last time I flew to Minsk, it was about $15.00 which was a few years ago. You buy it at the kiosks which are located just before you get to passport control.

Nope! I meant as written..having done the trip in the last year.

One's immigration slip is removed from you and you are stamped out of Russia at the airport

'Interesting' bearing in mind they notionally shared the same system of migration control.

I ended up being asked for my immigration slip when LEAVING Belarus..as I never 'arrived'..not going through passport control.

So, if doung this journey....keep your last boarding card handy

So you leave Russia but don't 'arrive' in BY. Very interesting.

What was your itinerary and airports?

I'm looking to fly from Minsk direct to Russia but everything I have read says I can't do it without visas to both countries. So close to pulling the trigger and getting a Belarus visa (even though I can enter without one).

Hi, Sorry

I only flew BACK via Minsk ..  The info I got from Belavia with whom I flew all the way was the most accurate

Sadly, I cannot advise on going to Russia via Minsk :(

Much easier going to Russia from Minsk than the other way around.

Where did you read such stuff??? Just need a Russian visa. What country are you flying from into Minsk?

BTW- You must use Belavia on all flights or use another airline such as Air Baltic and avoid Belarus.

I'm not avoiding Belarus because I am visiting Minsk. I've spoken with a Belarusian consular official and a Belarusian travel agent and both said I'd need visas to both countries to fly Minsk-Moscow. Also read a few travel websites. Just to be clear this is not a transit flight.

If you've got an authoritive source that says I need only one visa I'd be interested to know about it. Maybe I'll give Belavia a call too.

You were not clear before, you are visiting both Belarus and Russia, in this case I agree you need regular visas. You don't qualify for 5 day or 30 day visas. Sorry, I thought it was transit flight.

Now IF, you flew out of Minsk to say Riga or Chisinau then to Moscow, then you can use new 30 day visa free and only need Russian visa. Your call.

Well looks like GBP isn't widely accepted in Belarus so taking Euro's or US Dollars is best unless using just bank card to get out Belarusian Rouble according to the British Gov website:

http://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/belarus/money

Guessing some Euro's or US Dollars will have to be taken in advance if buying insurance at the airport to be sure. Though probably quicker getting through Passport control if you arrange insurance before hand I would guess.

No doubt similar situation as Ukraine in only being able to get Belarusian currency inside the country.

Anyone know of a good sim card that can be used in Belarus? Can I still use my Lifecell sim in Belarus?

Would be good to hear from someone who has been there can comment on the above just to confirm it is how I am thinking it probably is.
