Joanna Connor (born August 31, 1962)[1] is an American Chicago-based blues singer, songwriter, and virtuoso guitarist.

OK she's gained weight but can play terrifically.

I always thought this was a US Civil War song.....it turns out it originally was an Irish song.
Oh yes ...'Johnny We hardly Knew Ya' became the title of a JFK memorial book by David Powers and Kenneth O'Donnell, in collaboration with journalist Joe McCarthy. I have it in paperback.

Dick Dale died this week at 81. If you hear his stuff you will think "Oh.. he did that song?"
Glimpse his wiki page...  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Dale   He was an innovator.

Remember 'Pulp Fiction'? What do you call a Quarter Pounder in France?

THE SHADOWS

Originally known as The Drifters, they were an English instrumental rock group and Cliff Richard's backing band from 1958 to 1968.

Two instrumental pieces of 1960s:

Actually, Perfidia (here with a cha-cha-cha rhythm) was originally written by the Mexican composer Alberto Domìnguez in 1940.

EVERYBODY'S TALKING AT ME

A beautiful song composed by Fred Neil in 1966, included in the soundtrack of the movie Midnight Cowboy (1969), starring Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight:

I am no conservative when it comes to music (as I get a healthy dose of Public Enemy and N.W.A. every day) but I really am a sucker for romantic soul music and songs like this:

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

RENZO ARBORE AND HIS ORCHESTRA ITALIANA

Years ago (2008:
http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=6634.msg126605#msg126605) I posted on the subject of this original Italian radio/TV personality. Born in Foggia in 1937, he attended University in Naples and was fascinated by the local musical scene, which led him to found in 1991 L'Orchestra Italiana to popularise Neapolitan songs in widely acclaimed concerts in Europe, North and South America, Russia, China, Australia, etc. here playing a classic: Luna Rossa (Red Moon, composed in 1950  by V. De Cresceanzo whose son is the solo singer), with lyrics:

Mentioning the movie Diva reminded me of this piece, reminiscent of Michel Legrand.

Love most of Leonard Cohen's works.  This is a particular favourite.  I've also linked Gary Beacom, a famous Canadian skater's routine to this piece.  Beacom is a "skater's skater", as his edges are unsurpassed.  If you watch at around the 52 second mark, those edges are exceptionally difficult to perform.

If you are going to mention Leonard Cohen; then this must be included: Hallelujah

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
