Hello
« on: August 28, 2015, 07:19:48 PM »
I've been lurking here for almost two years while I was overseas. After realizing I was at Ice Station Zebra I found this site and started communicating with Ukrainian women. Travel being severely restricted due to the job and my line of work, I started too early. Long story short, I'm home and scheduling a trip to Kiev in the next few weeks. I'm very busy lately and don't frequent the site much. Kiev safe this time of year? Thanks for all the great advice and stickys. This site was a wealth of info. I've read as much as I can find on the internet about the country and look forward to seeing it. I'm told to only bring carry-on luggage.

Kiev is safe at this moment. Whether or not you'll be safe is debatable. You'll be fine unless war breaks out or you get ran over by a herd of women trying to claim you as their own.

I'm told to only bring carry-on luggage.

I've never heard of that. If you decide to take only carry on, you'll have to decide on bringing gifts for the ladies or bringing two weeks supply of underwear. You've got to make sacrifices. I hope your #2 don't stink. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome longtime lurker! I would question who told you that. Bad idea. Check a bag and keep it around 48 lbs. You'll want to take a carry on with an extra change of clothes and what ever you need handy while you travel. It's damn near impossible to travel with a shaving kit in a carry on. Other liquids or gifts likely wouldn't make it either. During my travels I've lost so much at security I can't even remember it all as a result of carrying something forbidden and just surrendering it. Check a bag.

Some great advice here.  I*'m a newbie also, going to Dnepropetrovsk in three weeks, to meet a lady I met on one of those sites.  Applied a couple of the rating systems found here, and the site checked out as Ok, and my lady did too.  Been corresponding by email and exchanging pics at least daily for almost three months.

I'm in my 70's and she's 58 and looks 38!  Been listening to Mark Davis but don't think the tour thing is my cup of tea.  Any suggestions?

Welcome to RWD John! You should start your own introduction thread. Yeah, the rating test is in no way anything based on science. Bottom line, it doesn't mean squat. However, you are older and supposedly wiser than most here, what does your gut tell you? Assume the lady is genuine until you know she's not. Judge her by her actions and she'll judge you by yours. It's been stated many times "if a FSUW is interested in you, you'll know it" and that is very true.

At the end of the day nobody here, no test and not even Mark Davis (who is a good guy and on the up and up, btw) can determine if the lady you are communicating with is genuine. Not even you will know until you go visit her and then you'll only have your heart and your gut to lead you.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply!

Don't trust my heart, heck, I've been widowed for years and likely a sucker for sweet talk.  My gut feelings for this lady are that she is not only genuine, but very interested.
Yes, I'll find out for certain in a few weeks.  Again thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

I have checked bags for every trip to the FSU so far. I've been lucky
and haven't lost anything yet. Kiev is safe, if keep your wits about you.
Don't flash you money or get stupid drunk in public and you will probably
be fine.

I've talked to Mark on one of his Webinars about some of the myths about FSUW.
It sounds like you have met a girl that you need to go see, so what you need to
do is to go see her. I would recommend that you be cautiously optimistic and
have a backup plan.

As far as lost luggage, two horror stories.
1.  Baggage not picked up in Kiev when going on to Simferopal.  Baggage was sent to Moscow.  Took over  a week to get it back.  Not only the birthday gifts and clothes, but important docs as well were delayed.  Airline would not re-book later flight because no seats with the same rate were available.  Was desperate as I had to get home for work.  I think I had to pay and extra $1500 just to get home.
2.  Took Air chance France and they lost my luggage in Paris.  Stuck in apartment in Kiev with only my computer bag and the clothes on my back for a couple days.  Never will travel without a change of clothes in my carry on.  Turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it was my 'now' wife that drove to the airport and rescued my luggage.  She had not yet met me in person, but apparently wanted to in the worst way.    :D

There was rioting in Kiev today.
If you go, keep a close eye and stay away from large gatherings.

Welcome to the forum LArochka, they have some Orthodox men here in the
West but there are significantly more Catholics. There are differences between
the two but there are many similarities too and the two churches accept each
others sacraments and allow intermarrying. I think that you should start your
own thread and ask your question there, it's likely to get lost in this thread.
