Woman's Day 8th March 2017!
« on: March 06, 2017, 04:07:47 AM »
Ok guys, just a heads up on this one to anyone reasonably new to this game and not aware, its Woman's Day on 8th March.

Yep, its back again for this year and unlike in the west in the FSU its not about feminazi clap trap, its about love :couple: much the same as our Valentines Day but just focused on Women and in the FSU more important. So for us this often, though not always depending on the women, means sending her flowers and the like and maybe of course win her affection. So not long on this one as of course it takes time to process order and deliver (or not, lol) from what ever website you choose. So good luck! ;D

I think you should go read on the history of International Women's Day.  The reason it is big in the FSU is because of its socialist roots.  It was made an official holiday by the USSR in 1917.  It definitely is not an Eastern version of Valentine's Day.

You're welcome.

Yeah but in post Soviet times it has very much moved that way. Loads of girls get sent flowers etc on this day, foreign guys especially :)

Women were given flowers in Soviet times as well.  It was an official holiday in Soviet times.  People didn't work.  It definitely is not analogous to Valentine's Day.  Not even close.

FWIW, Valentine's Day is what we normally refer to here as the 'Hallmark Consumer Holiday'. Gives local businesses a revenue boost between Christmas holiday and 'Mother's Day'. It's supposedly a *relationship* celebration, but I'm sure you can easily notice how it's far more geared to a woman indulgence. Times are a'changin'...Your act/s of affection towards your mate should be an everyday celebration.

IMHO, do as you boys would like to do for March 8th. From my own personal experience during and after my marriage, from my wife and a host of all other FSUWs including non-Russian and Ukrainian (Slovaks, Czech, Belarussian, Bulgarian, Moldovan, etc) alike I've come to know, especially the younger sets, it isn't that big of a deal.

Certainly, if you believe it'll give you brownie points to any of your current inamorata/s, it's your money to spend.

It's a day when you do buy flowers and/or other gifts for your wife or GF but you also buy them for your mother, daughter, grandmother, etc. I"ll be taking my RW plus her mother and daughter out for a nice lunch this Wednesday with plenty of flowers for all.

Acknowledged :D
It comes as an appreciation thing

Who started International Women's Day?"In 1911, it was [originally] celebrated for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19 March." In 1910, a woman called Clara Zetkin – leader of the 'women's office' for the Social Democratic Party in Germany – tabled the idea of an International Women's Day.
Quote
International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day is marked on the 8th of March every year. It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women for their economic, political and social achievements.

You may be quite correct about the socialist roots and I know I'm not teaching you anything when I observe that the February Revolution started on Int'l Women's Day.

These days, however, Women's Day has very little to do with Socialism over here. Again, I'm sure I'm not teaching you anything by that observation.

Well, I tend to think it is closer to Valentine's Day today, at least more than it used to be, although the meaning is still broader and altogether it is a more meaningful day. It's still a national holiday as well.

On an a slightly less related note, I've never seen so many 24 hour flower shops in my life. :)

I didn't say it had to do with socialism.  Just that it is not a "romantic" holiday akin to Valentine's Day, which is what was stated.  The way it is observed now is exactly how it was observed in Soviet times.

Your tagline is inaccurate.  It's not what I posted, so don't quote me inaccurately.

Boethius, I didn't say you said it had to do with Socialism (although it could be argued...). You referred to the Socialist roots of the holiday, which is correct, and I added more information. To be honest, I don't know enough yet to say whether it's exactly the same as it's always been, though. I suspect it has changed slightly, evolved - perhaps adding on new traditions, but I'll have to get back to you on that.

As to my signature - you do know it is exactly the words you typed, right? I didn't type them that's for sure, I just copied and pasted from your post. Will it be better if I clarify that this is what your Ukrainian husband said?

It has always been a holiday in which men show appreciation for women.

As for the quote, you are being disingenuous.  As cited, it appears these are my words.  They are not.  Plus, they were facetious, as I explained, albeit in a modification to my post, since you didn't seem to understand this.  Just as you missed it with the "feminazi" post.

Your anti Ukrainian bigotry is evident and noted.

How these threads get hi-jacked so easily.   :D
The title says Womans Day 8 March.

I will have to be more careful paying attention to some of the know-it-all's on here.  It was my understanding from a couple posters that Woman's Day was no longer a big deal in Ukraine - big mistake on my part.

Larissa came to work with me today so that she could drive one of the vehicles home that was in the shop.  On the way to work she reminded me that it is a huge holiday in Ukraine.   Furthermore, she had already received 57 messages from former girlfriends, former employers, former employees, and family by mid morning.  I was beginning to feel like a heel since I not made any plans for a special day.

During the course of the drive she told me that men and women stay home from work and celebrate Woman's Day often eating and drinking.  She made a joke that men  don't like the holiday because it is expensive (gifts for the wife and other women).  Also, it is a day when the women get to tell the men what to do.   :D

It also is a custom for employers to give the women employees gifts, flowers, candy, etc.  She had 69 female employees when she owned her business  and is quite familiar with the customs.  I wish she was more fluent in English so that she could write her own post and more fully describe the culture and customs for celebrating Women's Day.

Needless to say, some of the members seem to hit the nail on the head and accurately described the traditions.  Other know-it-all's, seem to not know what they are talking about!

Fortunately, she has a very good sense of humor and nice personality so I am not in the dog house for overlooking the celebration and lack of planning.  Her bloody phone is still ringing with calls from Ukraine at 4 PM tonight.

Thanks to the guys that tried to accurately tip us off on the upcoming holiday.

Perhaps the post about how some American women are celebrating the day was overlooked...

Funny point about men not being so keen on the day is true-- there seems to be so many important days in a year it is hard to keep track of them all !

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised at how oblivious to this situation you seem to be.  You seem to be focused on how you've got such a great girl so it's not going to be a big deal that you dropped the ball on this.  Yet, she is constantly hinting to you, yet you don't see it.  Don't be hero here is my advice.  Rather than argue with me, if I were you, I'd be using that time to get her a very very big bouquet of red roses tomorrow with apologies or some concocted excuse.  Then, don't let it happen again.  Seriously, I'm not trying to diss you.  Don't be so oblivious and don't let it happen again next year.  It's for your own good and the health and happiness of your relationship.

It is still an official holiday in Ukraine.  So yeah, kind of a big deal.  Not like Valentine's Day.

Lilies of the Valley were the most popular flower given to women on International Women's Day in Ukraine, primarily because of their scent.  Eventually, the government banned that, because there was a concern they would become extinct.

Well, it appears that Bounder thinks I need a new daddy to advise me on marital relations. :D  Sounded to me more like someone wet behind the ears telling an adult how to live their life.

In reality, Larissa is more of an angel than I deserve and yes I am very happy and proud to have found such a wonderful mate.  It also supports the notion than many members have stated earlier, that when a UA woman is in love with you she will go to the end of the world to support you and the family.

To add a little light in the adventure, here is a couple things that happened today that I found amusing.  We went together to the Toyota dealership and I had a bitch session with the service manager over the fact I could not reach the service advisor handling my repair.  6 phone calls and could not reach him.  Had to have my wife go to work with me in case the truck was done and she could drive one of the vehicles back to Redlands, etc.  The manager was apologetic and agreed that they needed to fix this problem.  As the session wrapped up, Larissa blurted out "What about a 10% discount?".   He did not respond other than to state that he could not give us our time back but would see that the truck got done today.

After he checked on the status of the repair, he called me at work and advised that it would be finished within a couple hours.  He then added "you remember your wife asked about a 10% discount?"  I said yes and he then replied "Tell her that I am giving her a 15% discount".   :D

It amounted to a little over $150.  I did not hear the end of that from her for a while later in the evening.  I had asked her to bring something to the master bathroom for me which she did....but not without comments.  "This is woman's day, you are supposed to bring the things to me".  I asked her if she wanted me to wipe for her also.  She replied yes and furthermore, she reminded me that she made $150 for us in a matter of a few seconds.

I share a few of these intimate stories for the benefit of men that are looking for a FSU wife.  I am worried that men reading the posts of PitBull and others might decide to not even pursue the FSU adventure.  There are wonderful FSU (UA) women  that don't remotely resemble the personality of a few female posters on the forum.  It was not an easy or inexpensive adventure.  It involved many trips to Ukraine, meeting a number of candidates and even included one engagement that blew up.  I think the most important factor was finding someone that has a great (non critical) personality that is truly in love with you.  It takes time, effort, and money to find that magic person that you can share your life with in harmony.  Most USA men are faced with looking at photos on a website and taking their chances on a trip that they cannot afford to repeat endlessly.  Time and money are the limiting factors that make this adventure so difficult.  I do not recommend it to anyone without the resources to repeat the process until their objective is met.

To show Larissa's sense of humor, as I was about to close this post she came into the lab and showed me a Russian video.  Here is the link...

While some men are obsessed with finding the perfect 10,  they would be much better off not wasting their time on this and instead search for someone that has the personality and characteristics they want to live with the rest of their lives.  When you are mutually in love.....they become a 10!

Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

I worried that you would take offence to my post and write a response, rather than going to buy flowers.  Anyway, it was just advice, something you can take or leave.  You're free to do as you wish and I didn't mean to cause you any offence.  When I receive advice, I realize I can take it or leave it, and that the person who gave it didn't necessarily mean any harm or offence.

I take offense at your spelling of the word offense.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
