Going to Ukraine
« on: July 19, 2023, 01:24:52 PM »
I heard Lviv is safe but each month new bombings to cities in the center of Ukraine and south. I have friends in Kyiv and Odesa and they say things are relatively safe. What are the safe zones?

If some half wit idiot was considering going to Ukraine and he is actually a journalist where can he go that is relatively safe? Where would YOU go if you had to go to Ukraine.

kyiv air defense has about a 90% intercept rate
because of that Russia doesn't waste high-end weapons on kyiv anymore
only cheap iranian jihadi drones that by the beard of the prophet is Allah's will...

kyiv would be my first choice
western cities and odesa are not as well protected by air defense so slightly more dangerous
kyiv will also give you the best photos

American cities are more dangerous than bein in a ukrainian one
i would't worry
you never hear the one that gets you anyway

never, ever been a better time to go, except for the hot weather

otoh, i'm an ex-soldier, I freakin LOVE the smell of napalm in the morning
but if you're a 'civilian' and you want the safest path in
avoid all airports, rail, bus stations
come in by car
at one of the smaller entry points
don't stay in a large city, or near any installations that smell like a Russian target (school, hospital, etc)
seriously, if you could spend a  day in some place like Baltimore, Maryland and come out alive
then ya'll gonna be ok in Ukraine
i'd worry more about STDs then anything else (you should get an HPV vaccine and depending on where ya go, hepatitus, get vaxed)
southern ukraine even has cholera now
however ukrainian anteka you can get anti-biotics
in the old days, you could also buy 30 mg codeine tablets
do the 'cold water codeine extraction'
and you could get phuqued up on 'cheap heroin" for like 20 kopec
combine that with weed and I thought I could fly
good times....

have fun

Russia, is a totally different story
Russia is a very dangerous place for a yankee right now
unless your name is Mike Tyson

i've been in some serious fist fights in russia
and this is normal for ANYBODY living there
Russia is tense and out of control
everybody is stressed and pissed
ain't no country for old men to go hangin out in anymore

all I really wanna do anymore is just 'chill'
but EVERYBODY is callin me, tryin to drag me back in
ain't gonna happen
nobody has leverage over me now

i just sit back on the porch overlooking my garden, torch a spliff, and smile enigmatically...

Lviv I recall got hit by a missile not so long ago, a few weeks back perhaps. Some devastation where it landed, usual pics of buildings looking blown out. Don't think they get missiles as much as some of the other big Ukrainian cities but of course it does happen occasionally by the looks of it.

If it were me I would plumb for one of the smaller Ukrainian cities in the west of Ukraine around the Lviv area, Ivano Frankivisk, or as Krim has mentioned in the past, Ternopil or similar. No guarantees as the Russians might suddenly switch to targeting the smaller cities in the hope they are less well defended by air defences.

My guess is though that they will probably still continue to be relatively low risk, as said try to keep away from schools, hospitals any military type of facilities, and be careful of city centre, markets and possibly government buildings as likely highest on the Russians list of targets as has been seen to date.

I think there is some real good times to be had going to those smaller cities in west Ukraine at the moment and pretty low risk. So on balance the risk to reward is probably pretty good. Few other foreigners will be there so little competition. Economy not good so girls there will be randy for a wealthy foreign guy, so for me if I checked out say Moldova and no joy then it could be a likely low risk worth taking. Really it's just down to having the time available to have the fuss getting across the border worth the effort.

All those cities have been targeted by Russia, numerous times.  Nowhere is safe, although Kyiv, as noted, is far safer because of missile defense.  But people have been injured/killed by missile debris.  The odd drone gets through in Kyiv as well.

Another possibility then CG could be to base yourself in Przemyśl in Poland. It's right next to the border with Ukraine and has a rail station there. The rail line runs from Krakow to Lviv and onwards in both directions. Apart from any Ukrainian or Polish chicks there or that might turn up at the station you could transport in any promising prospects and it wouldn't be a big deal for them, less so if they are from western Ukraine as a short journey and would likely be easier for them to cross the border these days.

Your stay in Przemyśl would obviously be restricted to whatever visa terms the US has with EU countries for the UK it's a 90 day stay max then at least 180 days out of the EU before another 90 days inside and so on, on a visa free basis. Ukrainian chicks might relish the chance to be free from the threat of missiles dropping in them without necessarily being far from home. Just hope they don't bang on about the war but more about getting it on :P

I really like Odesa, my paternal grandfather was born there
but..
a prime target city

however, there's an exception, a safe area in Odesa
Russia is bartering the grain deal vrs Togliatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline
dumb phuques can't make explosives without it
and of course, Ukraine doesn't wanna give it to them
so get the address of the Togliatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline terminal in Odesa
and make this area your base, Russia will never shoot here!!!
they want it intact

I would go to Warsaw. What is the purpose of this experiment? You haven't provided enough information.

if you end up in kyiv
and decide ya wanna go to "Chep"
the chernobil exclusion zone (2 hour drive north of kyiv)
DO NOT take your girlfriend there with you!!
you don't want her gametes gettin gamma rays
but, eet iz OK for you
cuz you make new ones every week, or if you're Bee Farmer, every freakin day when his porn sites are refreshed with new 'material'...

I guess you know why he's called a 'yank-ee'
and it ain't cuz he's American
desperate times in America's heartland of Hawg Hollar Estates
turns incels into handymen
who have a "solution in hand' for resolving sexual frustration
but absolutely no knowledge or experience with having a healthy relationship with the opposite sex
and yet who are convinced of their expertise on the subject, gained from reading books in the self-help section of the book store
America is full of people like this

also, whatever shoes you wear in chernobil, throw em away after
you don't want a pinhead piece of reactor core getting stuck on the bottom of your shoe
giving your foot 50 x-rays ever day
now do ya?

For sure, Ukrainian chicks haven't been given the HPV vaccine they're government is too poor. Here in the UK girls have been given the HPV vaccine for quite a good many years now though older women may still be unvaccinated. So the risk of getting HPV bad from a local woman in the UK is low, however if a guy goes abroad to Ukraine then a lot greater risk. Generally guys are at less risk that girls particularly when using a condom but I wouldn't chance it in that alone so you're dead right Krim I think to highlight this.

They've only started vaccinating younger guys only a few years ago in the UK as I recall as guys were thought to be off less risk than girls, that thinking though was stupid as guys could off course go abroad to countries where there wasn't HPV vaccination programmes and get off with the women there oblivious to the risk.

For guys we can only get it up to age 45 in the UK. I'm guessing after that they assume that anything that might develop, cancers, etc as a result will be at an old age anyway when we will either be screwed by other stuff too or they may be able to sort out the cancer's by then possibly. So I was lucky and got in last year, had to pay £140 which kind of sucked as they give it free now in schools. One dose of the vaccine will probably do me and as a male at low risk but thought better not chance it.

I've got the Hepatitis A vaccine last year. Need to get a top up this year and the Hepatitis B one also. Rabies is also on the list but national shortage at the moment don't know why since the UK doesn't have any rabies. Cholera I would have to look into so thanks for the heads up on that one Krim ;)

So all in all a sh*tload of vaccines to get done if wanting to date relatively safely in the FSU and even then use of condom needed as I've heard too that they have loads of STD stuff over there and unfortunately of course the dreaded HIV.

Flu vaccine I've got booked in for September as usual, while previously got Tetanus & Typhoid. Also had both Pnuemonia jabs that one is important I think as can be a killer and like any off the above issues no one wants to end up in hospital out there as I hear it.

My friend in Russia tells me her town has an outbreak of cholera.

As for Ukraine, I'm just restless. I'm talking to a few Ukrainian women. I am extremely leery of Ukrainian women these days. Just playing with the idea of going there if it is safe. I have friends in Kyiv and Odesa so if the routes are safe then I wouldn't mind going there through Poland. I'll also be able to see these few extremely beautiful Ukrainian women and my friends so I'm piqued.

The prospect of not having much control of your life is a very strong deterrent.

But life seems to be going back to normal. My ex has been casted in a tv commercial. I guess she didn't enter the military due to some health issues.

like the state-run children's hospital in chernigov, north of kyiv....
I only lasted about an hour there, and i've spent a whole day at Auschwitz...
the price of admission is a box of toys and candy for kids
but you will not be the same person when you come outta there
you understand, right?

Honestly I'm sure there are many stories to be told and documented in Ukraine and I used to work in that sphere and if I went I'd record and photograph people and life.

Lots of stuff on those sorts of places on You Tube:

Was watching on TV about a year ago one program how they are basically dumped there with very little care or resources. One day is the same boring isolating day as the next. Sone they just tie them down as it's just the easiest way to deal with them. Few visit even often the parents don't much if at all.

That's a really good idea CG, there's lots of stuff out there about the front line but very little about day to day life for people out there as it is at the moment. So everyday people telling their story about how they are now, stuff that's happened to them and their family, etc in a detailed account way. On the news sometimes we get a, 'here's so and so and they had their leg blown off' but it doesn't really tell the day to day struggles that person now has, how they feel, what's changed, how others now treat them, etc. I can imagine the war is causing misery for many people out there and a lot of it isn't being reported upon.

Cross the border and you are in war zone. That makes you a target, even if you are a journalist or tourist. The Western part is currently relatively safe, but do not go anywhere near places or hotels where military staff (including non-Ukrainian) is present, as a strike can occur at any time.If you wish to believe Russian rumours, Lviv might be Polish soon anyway.
Understand that there is no knowing who is on which side over there at this time.
