Thanks for the lyrics, I found them years ago when I first discovered Carmina Burana.  I was surprised when I was doing my research that the actual music was not older then it was.
It's one of the 3 Trionfi (Triumphs) that Carl Orff wrote:

- Carmina Burana (1937)
- Catulli Carmina (1943)
- Trionfo di Afrodite (1953)

Here's a sample from Catulli Carmina (Catullus's Poems):

THE ELECTRIC GUITAR

Les Paul (Lester William Polfuss) is reputed to have invented it in the 1930s:

He became a partner of the Gibson guitar manufacturers, later rivalling with Fender:

Another early electric guitarist/mandolinist:

Who knows how this would have sounded with amplification ;):

Here's the piece my choir sang as an encore at the end of our concert last Sunday- I'm the bespectacled, lone bass at extreme right ;):

The recording was done by the parish usher, and of course sound acquired through a camcorder mike is not of the best possible quality :-\, also considering the huge empty volume inside this church that produced too much echo :(.

I loved singing in church. Part of my big plan is to find a perfect vibrant city with nice old churches, move there and join the choir there

What's your singing range Mies, soprano or contralto? As you can see, mine is a chamber choir - or rather a broom-closet choir since we're only 13 :-[ - so we could do with some additional womanpower ;).

We just had one defection among our contraltos - the wife of our former choirmaster - but next September we should be joined by a new soprano and two new basses (thank heaven, being a 1-man bass section for an entire year with nobody else to 'lean on' has been a bit of a burden for me :().

Here's another piece from our concert, more modern but in the same polyphonic style:

We had soprano I and II (lower), and alt (also two). I normally took the lower (mezzo?) soprano or higher alt. That's the range I am most comfortable in.  :)

Sorry I do not know these terms too well - I always hated the "theory of music" in school - all exams on this subject were passed by me on pure luck. Shameful, but true.

i like polyphonies a lot - probably most of anything. One of the reasons why i like some of contemporary/electronic music - because they use same idea as in classic polyphonies - possibly less sophisticated and more "mechanic", but still..

Very nice videos - thank you Sandro :-)

I like listening to them when working on urgent projects :-) probably for the same reason as you - also gets my blood flowing. )
when exercising i listen to something of this kind:

- gives me good pace for workout, and is relatively monotonous which is also good for exercising purposes.

So you sang in a 6-part choir? Wow :D. How many choristers in total? We are too few now to venture in that direction yet, maybe sometime in the future as we improve, our new, 28-y.o. choirmaster wants to introduce us to full contrapuntal Renaissance music next year :o.

We had a short 3-part canon in our program, W.A. Mozart's Dona nobis, but he said it was our worst performance, so I'm not going to upload it to Youtube :-[ and cannot attach it here because it's too large (10.5 Mb).

I sang all together in 3 different choirs. In church - we had only women. If I remember correctly there were not more than 4 parts (and maybe less). Also not too many people - around 20 in total. Some were more "professional", some - just volunteers from regular attendants of the church. The other two choirs were from university and musical school. Those were larger. 50-60 people in each. There were also men in them so there were parts for men. We had both monastic and secular music in repertoire.
"Dona nobis" sounds very familiar. We sang it too :-)
Would be still great to hear your choir performance.  :-)

Alright, as a special favour to a fellow choir singer - formerly and maybe again in the future ;) - I have uploaded it temporarily and anonymously:

I won't keep it long there, I don't want to incur into my choirmaster's wrath and my choir's shame ;).

ok I have to do this.. if anyone besides me likes this stuff I will be REALLY surprised..

I used to listen to RATM when I was younger.  I still have a couple Pantera CD's that are just collecting dust now.  I had a friend that was into death metal - Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Sepultura - and we listened to that stuff constantly.    :hipdude:   That's not my taste now, thankfully, as I'd have moral problems listening to a song titled "Entrails Ripped from a Virgin's ____" or "Dismembered and Molested".  I probably shouldn't have even posted that.
