...'when were all just lonely teenage broncin' bucks with pink carnation and pick-up trucks....and the good ol' boys drank whiskey and rye'....back when homecoming dances were still held in the school's gym, this was still at its purest, an .

If you can still remember Don McLean then you can never forget . They would not listen they did not know how, but perhaps they'll listen now....starry, starry night...

VERY cool!  Damn... this is hard to say... but you have good taste.   ;D

Another two of my favorite songs.  With "Vincent" edging out "American Pie" as I've aged.

Thanks GQ!

Johndeargreen,
I think the Mustang Sally in the movie the Commitments is the best ever.  Had a big debate with my son as he likes the Otis Redding version better.

Seeker,
I see you're a Seager fan.  Seager was a local in the Detroit area.  I actually went to a high school dance where his band was the entertainment.  Seager had some farm land next to where the Palce is (home of the Pistons).  Some wild azz barn parties went down there.  LOL He just announced he was going on tour this summer.  Just FYI.

Thanks!  I will be looking for the tour dates.  I hope one is close to me.

I remember sitting with Joe Walsh in a park and listening to him play until I couldn't remain vertical... and sitting in the Theatricum Botanicum watching plays sponsored by Will Geer and laughing with him until I soiled myself.  He was a funny and very loving man.  Sigh... I wish there was a YouTube video of those times.

Floyd would require a thread of their own.   ;)

No-no-no!    :rolleyes2:
Please, allow me to initiate you:

and for those with the true believers in Floyd

I lost that religion along time ago and glad to be free of it.  In an interview I heard recently, Roger Waters said of the early Floyd that they adopted the psychedelic expression to cover their poor musicianship.

To Sandro, thanks for the links to the Mediterranean music.  Think I'll follow up.

And yes, as you are no doubt knowledgeable of C.G. Jung and his works you'll know that for we INTJs, that schizophrenia is in fact a risk.  Jung used to study Schizoids.  It is an old yogic idea, that the sublime moment occurs in the transition between states, and Jung thought schizophrenics caught a glimpse of 'truth' in the transition of identification.

I'm not sure if any of you guys ever related memorable moments in your lives with music. Everytime I travelled anywhere alone, I would take along select music to saturate myself to the new things I am about to see and experience, just to create an association, or a connection if you will to these new places, people, and events to remember by for years to come. Sort of like creating a personal soundtrack, you know.

My first trip to Russia as a WMVM was definitely not an exception. So today, when I hear these songs on the radio, an automatic vivid recollection flashes in my brains.

So bear with me, music I liked at the time and took along with me...if this trip would have had a soundtrack, the credit would look like this...

"Something's Always Wrong" performed by

"Prayer For The Dying"  performed by

"Drive"  performed by

"Round Here" performed by

"Lost Cause" performed by

"Interstate Love Song" performed by
- especially dedicated to Annechka

"Shooting Stars"  performed by
- (token oldie)

"With Arms Wide Open"

"Out Of My Head"  performed by

"It's Been A While"  performed by

Of course, had my wife known where I was drawing my inspirations from during that time, she may have had other ideas. LOL. These songs/albums kept me in control and sane that 14 days in Moscow.

I scrolled through every page of this thread, and I thought I would find more Russian music here. There was some, but not as much as I thought...

In my trips to Russia, I found that I fell in love with Russian Pop Music on the radio. These would be the equivilent of our "Top-40's" Music here in the states. Most of the songs that I liked are from the 2001-2004 era when I was traveling to Russia frequently. I had found some of them on Youtube, and had them bookmarked, but in the years since, many have been removed. I don't even know the names of most of these songs, or even the artist(s) who perform them. "Russian Radio" doesn't babble like our US stations do. Here's a sample:

Without doing a search before answering, do you know the song by Ten Years After named "I'd Love To Change The World?" My guess is that any music listener who is
above age 30 knows this song if they heard it. I was messing around on the guitar and played something that sounded very close to a song I knew existed but I couldn't
even come close to figuring out who sang it, how the singing went, or who wrote it. Finally, I played the intro for a friend over the phone and he said it was by
Ten Years After. I searched it on the net and sure enough, he was correct. And, I was very very close to playing that song by messing around. Since I now know the
song, I've asked some folks at work if they knew the group or the song and I was surprised at how many people couldn't identify the song until they heard it. So,
do you know this song without doing a search?

If you want to hear an entertaining and IMO a funny song, check out Willie Nelson – Ain't Going Down On Brokeback Mountain

I know it word for word... one of my favorites.  Now I have to go put on the CD because I want to hear it.  Us old hippies still listen to this kind of music.  ;)

And no, I don't miss the pops, crackles, and skipping of the albums.  Except on one song by Manfred Mann's Earth Band where I got so used to a small skip that it seems odd when it is not there.

I've been nuts about Michael Brecker's sax for decades. Used to buy anything that featured Michael (R.I.P.) as
a sideman....  so a few years ago, I spot his name on the credits on a new CD by two guys from
Siberia - Artyom Yushenko (violin) and Yuri Matveev (guitar) ~ they're both Irkutsk-raised and quite
energetic. A mix of folk, jazz, world.... I hear shades of Jean Luc Ponty, dashes of Pat Metheny, and
other stuff I love...

In the 1970s  I had the 8 track   with this song  on it  , Alvin Lee  was known as one of the fastest  guitarist   back then .

Okay... that was amazing.  Can you PM me with the details so I can find more of their work?  The violin work alone blew me away.  And the combination...  Wow.
