I actually had very good and honest business dealings in Russia.  But that was more due to our Russian partners and that they were participating in the profits, I believe, than in the innate honesty of the politicians and business participants.

In some ways, Russia reminds me of the old Ottoman Empire in the regimented series of bribes and additional fees tacked on to every transaction.

Perhaps you have already read it, but if not pick up the book "I Was a Potato Oligarch" by John Mole. A humourous look at serious issues when doing business in such an environment.

Now you are trying to give Putin more power than he really has.  Russia does not have the capacity to take on NATO.  In fact Russia really is a regional power.

As long as his dictatorial empire has thousands of strategic thermonuclear warheads, Muscovy is a global, not regional, power.

Bingo! and that is one reason Iran and North Korea would love to have nukes. Gets them a seat at the big boys table.

N. Korea already has Nukes.  They just want more.

One more important step though. Once they are able to mount them on Russian cruise missiles in the link below and fire them from ships, they will be able project their power globally. There's no doubt in my mind North Korea will someday be able to wipe out American West Coast cities.

We can't get public support in the West for Ukraine but if we show Russia is endangering our lives by putting weapon systems in the hands of unstable leaders around the world, we are more likely to take action.
