The gangster question    Though should have guessed correctly, because the correct gangster has a typically Belarusian last name. Didn't have much time to think though as my 3-year old needed to play dollhouse with me ASAP.

Or, like most people (me included), you know nothing about Belarus apart from the name of the capital city and the current dictator.

In reality that is a pretty good score if my hunch is right that the average person on the street would be lucky to get more than one of those questions right. Good job.

You're not even close to last place.  Mendy is right: I doubt the average person on the street would answer more than one or two questions correctly.  But even here, where we have a lot of people who have considerably more interest in and knowledge of Russia, the Soviet Union, and the republics that separated from it to become their own nations, 30% of the test-takers got a score lower than 43%.  You were just brave enough to post your score. 

This was a tough quiz. And, as Anotherkiwi pointed out, very few people know much about Belarus.  I wouldn't have known much about it either, except that my first FSU girlfriend was from Belarus.  My second also.  So I had the opportunity to travel there and that stimulated my reading about the country.

One of the questions in the quiz concerned a leading organized crime figure in america who came from what is now Belarus. I mistakenly wrote that he was from Mogilev. He was actually from Grodno. I watched a documentary on the man tonight and his biographer said he was originally from Grodno. I checked online and found that he was correct.
