I drew the plans, made two new walls with sheetrock, insulated, taped and sanded both sides, furred
in two walls so that I could insulate the walls, taped and sanded, insulated and sheetrocked the ceiling,
2 canned lights switch and an outlet, taped and sanded, hung the door and a closet sliding mirror door
and built a little niche with a particle board/melamine sill. I didn't case out the door but I surrounded
it with spray foam. The closet wasn't insulated and only had sheet rock on the interior wall but it was
taped and sanded.

Angel Eyes and Smiley girl applied the PVA sheetrock primer and the paint. Angel Eyes put on the
switch and outlet covers. The next weekend I cased out the door. Neither the door nor the casing
were ever painted. I never put in base trim. Later I put in a closet rod. Angel Eyes was good at
taping but since she was pregnant, I wouldn't let her sand anything. I drew the plans, bought the
materials and took delivery before starting the project.

Udachi!

Bill

That's not bad going Bill but it can be a lot quicker with more hands on the jobs, up to three times quicker I guess. Did you do noggins in your studwork wall?

This is true in academia with respect to new hires.

Aside from salary, women have a better chance of getting hired, all things equal, because of the continuing push to bring in more female professors.

Now after original hire, salaries are mostly increased based on research output and bringing in grant money.

Thus, as I know from current happening, men start to pull away from women salary wise.
In the business I am involved there are almost zero women employed.  Even if we would give preferential treatment and equal salary. But somehow no women apply for digging holes in the ground ans laying cables. :cluebat:

Why did you sand both sides ?

And I never saw you mention where you applied drywall mud or compound to the sheet rock.  That's the part where I said it would slow you down because have to wait for mud to dry before you can sand, apply primer and paint.

I didn't do many noggins for non structural interior walls. Just next to the door to stiffen it up there
or for sheet rock backing near a switch or outlet.

Why did you sand both sides ?

Imagine a big rectangular basement. From a corner I built two new walls
The new interior walls had both sides exposed, I wanted it to look finished.
Two of the interior walls I furred in the exterior wall obviously I didn't finish
the back of those walls.

And I never saw you mention where you applied drywall mud or compound to the sheet rock.

Many construction terms are slightly different regionally. In the West we call most of the
work with joint compound/drywall mud taping and finishing.

Yes, I finished off several rooms in my 1,900 square foot walk out lower level.
Fastening 2X4 studs or furring strips to concrete walls a lot of fun.
Whatever you call it the joint compound/drywall mud taping and finishing steps will slow you down due to need for mud to dry before sanding.  The interior corners take even more time to dry.  Then there is putting on the primer and drying time before coat of paint can be applied.

Just today, we walked past a house that was built in my development several years back.  They are adding a detached 3 car garage with living space on top.  Already a 2 car attached garage.

After concrete down, the framing, roofing and windows completed in about 2 days.
Wife exclaimed how fast everything was going.
But I told her . . . as soon as finish work starts . . . it can drag on for a very long time.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

The easiest way is to use a Hilti Gun.

But yes, it can really suck.

I didn't do many noggins for non structural interior walls. Just next to the door to stiffen it up there
or for sheet rock backing near a switch or outlet.

My wall has noggins & insulation in it, noggins can be useful also to have as anchor points if you wish to hang stuff on the wall. More time consuming to do though and I think here it's pretty much mandatory for any partition wall for structural integrity for building regs even if not directly load bearing. On top of that I've taken down masonry wall and put up new masonry wall, taken down a staircase and put up two new ones, taken down ceiling & put up new ceilings, taken out the bathroom and put in new toilet, taken up the old floorboards & put down new floorboards, etc, etc. Should be good when done as I'll have three rooms one split level with space in the loft all with an ensuite toilet & basin to rent out to lodgers. I'll take the smallest one to stay over & keep my gear then rent out the other two.

I mostly use the old fashioned way of hammer and hand saw . I bought an electric jigsaw but it cut was too inaccurate. I bought an SDS drill/jackhammer and that has been invaluable. Generally that is the largest & most expensive tool but that was only about 60 quid or so. I don't generally buy expensive tools or equipment as the cost can mount up and not often a need too. I know in the state's they go all into the light timber frame fire it up quick with nail guns etc bug here it's not a method that really goes with the climate/house material situation. So it tends to be a bit heavier construction this way but probably less transmittance of sound that I hear can be a problem out in the states in timber frame stuff.

The last time I used a heavy tool to make a hole in my sister's floor to put a cable we found that the walls on the lower floor were not places the same as on the upper floor. The hole was nearly in the middle of the room. That confirmed my idea to leave such jobs to others that might destroy things only intentionally.
On a positive note... my son has left the hospital today, family is back to being complete.

Correct, I haven't. I still advise for Newbies not to cuss. Those of us
who've had the hair on the inside of their ears singed by a Russian
woman can adapt that advice as they see fit in situ.

When meeting someone new I would not recommend it either. Just a I would tell them to speak English in short sentences without slang or proverbs. And try to suppress any local accent. All this will work to compensate for the FSUW to understand what you are telling.

I tend not to like girls that swear that much to me it screams 'ladette' and so a not so feminine feel which isn't very nice. I can tolerate it if the girl can't change or its the odd but here it there but generally I'm not a fan. So it's good to hear FSW aren't that way this much, kind of like back in the old days I guess.

Kind of feels often like the girl cheapens herself by swearing where not so for a guy some do it in a way where I don't think they realise how bad it can look in it really lowering the impression guys have on them.
