Yeah- God bless her! :D
Hehe Walmart was my first shopping target. Then Target. Also, tried Kohls. All the three are in the past  :D :D :D :D

There's a super wally world here , I hate the idea of my wife shopping there  , I discourage  it all the time , every pair of shoes I purchased there went into the garbage  within  a few days .
I explained to her that they search the world for the cheapest  stuff  , not quality stuff

Same here- all the shoes, pants or tops ended up in the garbage. I am not fussy- just don't want to waste money.

Thanks Doll  , I made sure my wife read this and I believe she is now convinced  to not buy clothes there .
She loves  spending an hour or so just looking around at wally w

Well, like I said, I did shop at Wallmart for 2 or 3 months, then my neighbor (an AW) talked me out of it,"We're passing Wallmart- don't even look at it"  :D :D
The clothes there are not that cheap BTW if you think of washing it one or two times and then throw it away.

We received a wedding present of a gift card for $100 at Nordstroms. So when we were in downtown Chicago we went there. As we were leaving my wife said to me "What good is $100 here?" So she ended up with a nice winter coat from Nordstrom's Rack.   ;D

total of 2 suitcased perhaps brought during her previous travels.
We have bought a lot winter clothes here, they are less expensive and more warm than what she can find in Ukraine.

For stores, she like a lot Jacob (Jacob.ca) , Tommy Hilfiger . The more difficult perhaps was with shoes as she knew only european brands.. prices were a shock for her. So she has had to discover alternatives :)

I packed very light on that trip so we had two large duffle bags, two large suitcases, and three carry-ons, which one of them she called her "purse" and the other two I knew were bigger than regulation but they didn't say anything, for a grand total of 7.

When was this? I assume not in the last 2-3 years? Most airlines are charge happy on anything over two bags

Viking,
One of the few times I sent Lena money was to purchase suitecases for her trip here.  I had envisioned two maximum sized suitecases packed to bursting with an overweight charge to boot.  Reality was that Lena brought (2) 30" duffel bags!

Of course things changed quickly after Lena arrived, but the truth of the matter is that she didn't have much to bring, but what she did bring was of high quality and multifunctional.  Tops matched with a variety of bottoms and vice verse.

As for initial shopping, I first took Lena to a Kmart.  I thought I would start off modest and work our way up to her comfort zone.  After about 2 hours of inspection of thread counts and stitching quality, Lena proclaimed the clothes at Kmart to be "rags" of the lowest quality.

Viking...perhaps the following question answered honestly by men already married might answer your question:

Guys...how many suitcases would your wife fill up if she took all her clothes she has now to Russia?

Myself...I couldn't gauge it in suitases. I would wager she could fill my Suburban to the brim! :D

A half a dozen at least would be my guess. She was extremely careful to not exceed the per bag weight limit even though I told her to not sweat it and pay for the overage. Her plan is long term, to go over with very little and bring back two suit cases each time. She put a lot of thought into it. I don't see any reason to not let her follow through. Not something I'd pick a battle over.  :)

Sorry, I meant that I packed very light for the trip over so she would have all the room for her things on the flight back.

It was last March and on Delta. They let us check in two bags for me and two bags for my wife, and one carry-on each plus her "purse".
No extra charges then, but when her mother came over last July they had already started charging for the extra check-in bag.

No battle going here about the clothes. Besides, I most likely would not win!! Just curious as to the experiences of others.

Ken

When did she reach her comfort level?  Kohls, Macys, Nordstroms, or some store name ending in a vowel. And when did you reach your comfort level?  ;D

Viking,
The top level is where ever you put a cap on it!

There were many stages through the years to be honest.  In the beginning she was more into volume than overall quality.  Toward the end it was all about quality and fashion.  There was a time when she was shipping (and recieving) designer handbags from all over the country.  She also discovered the delivery schedule for goods at Marshalls and was sure to check the new incomong goods for bargins.  Off Fifth and Nordstroms "Rack" were also good hunting grounds for bargins.  But the designer stores up in Costa Mesa were not strangers either.  I thought I hit the Mother load when I found a designer outlet mall near Palm Springs with Diane Von Furstenberg, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, Elie Tahari,Liz Claiborne New York,Prada, St John, and Gucci stores!  Like most Eastern Europeans, Lena was very designer and quality concious but not opposed to saving a few bucks at the same time.
