Questions on the cost of an Australian visa !
« on: July 18, 2012, 06:19:53 PM »
Hi guys,
If it is not too personal to ask such a question, I would like to know the costs you were hit with in regards to an Aussie Visa for your FSUW. Full costs if you don`t mind as I am just trying to get the general gist of how much I will need to set aside and when it is a good time to do so. My girl is from Turkmenistan not Russia and has 1 child so it may be a little different but I am unsure of this also, so any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all....Rob

Hi Rob

I think you will be looking at around $3000 to $3200 for the visa alone, depending on how you approach it. Here is a link to the charges for partner category visa's from Immigration, it's a little hard to understand as it varies depending on when & where she applies (ie comes in as fiance, then applies from within Australia to remain, or applies directly from outside Australia) either way I think they set them up so the total cost is similar. If unsure, it may be best to call Immigration to clarify.

Her country of origin, will make no difference I imagine.

Put aside another $500 for translation of documents, medicals etc.

As far as I'm aware there is no additional cost to include her dependent child (if child is under 18)

ps just to clarify, I am a NZ citizen, so cannot a sponsor wife/partner, my wife got her permanent residency under the Skilled Migration system (cost is similar though) so perhaps some other Oz citizens can relate their costs for a more accurate figure)

Visa 300 (prospective of marriage) 2060$
Medicine check for her about 320$
send docs to embassy about 30$
tickets for her to go to interview in embassy
marriage celebrant 150-190 deposit
money for translate her docs (BD sert, marriage/divorce sert, kid's BD sert etc)
tickets to see her in real

Maybe something else.

Rob-- there are quite a few variations to the theme.Website is your best friend to sort out close to your precise case.  Figures quoted are all near enough correct-the variation is in the way you chose to do it.

Good luck

The prospective marriage visa (sub class 300) costs $2060 which only gets her into the country - you have 9 months from date of issue (not date of entry) to be married at which point you must apply for partner residency visa, temporary subclass 820 and permanent subclass 801. The application for these latter two is concurrent with one charge (currently) of $995. The second stage of the 820-801 is assessed after two years.

Other document and medical costs as per others comments or applicable cost at the time and or location.

The kicker is medicare - she has no access to medicare until you have lodged your subclass 820 application - the only cover you have is private health insurance.

PS: Junior is included.

The kicker is medicare - she has no access to medicare until you have lodged your subclass 820 application - the only cover you have is private health insurance.

Not sure how my comments apply outside of USA, but something for everyone to consider.

My Gal got a major medical insurance policy through the university as a student.
The cost was $1,100 for a year.  There is a $350 deductible and coverage up to $250,000.

As a private (non-student) purchaser, I have been told that such a policy would be around $500-600 per month or $6,000-7,200 per year.

Interestingly, the policy (Aetna) paid for 100% of some blood tests she had, even though the policy clearly states no such coverage would occur until she paid the $350 deductible.  Don't know the story on that; but happy at the outcome.

In addition, students can go to Student Health clinic for standard items for only $10 a visit.

Yes, of course, someone has to be paying for the university tuition, but this might be a good idea to get them started on the English anyway.  The savings in health insurance policy might pay for the tuition.

Just a thought.
