That may give some a route out of Russia I hear Putin has all but been named Dictator for Life, lol. I'm guessing the borders of Russia are still closed to foreigners, any sign that may be lifted at all?

USA reports 10 times the virus rate that Russia admits.

What are the best sites for up-to-date travel info/restrictions?

I'm keen to plan a trip to Russia after I had one cancelled earlier this year, but struggling to get reliable and timely info.

I'd be after similar info for other countries too.

Russia: As of today:  getting in ... Not unless you

1/  are a Diplomatic / family member of ..

2/ Resident

3/ Essential worker, with special permission

4/ Family emergency (illness) death

5/ Russian citizen

Getting OUT ( until August 1st)

1/ You have residency in your immediate destination nation

2/ You will be caring for an ill family member

3/ Diplomat or family member

I'm after websites that have reliable updates.

Something like this: http://www.kayak.com/travel-restrictions

Not just border info but quarantine/isolation info. Keen to travel for 3-4 months, multiple continents, but Russia is on the top of the list.

It's tricky because if I jump from country to country it may be different in which sequence I travel whether I can get in the country, etc.

Info can change from day to day. If an American is travelling to Ukraine, It's best to Google for the American embassy in Ukraine to read what is required after entering Ukraine if even allowed in. But if an American is living in Germany and wants to travel to Ukraine, he should check the German embassy in Ukraine for info given to those coming from Germany. So if you bounce around through 5 countries in a 14 day period and Ukraine requires people from any one of those countries to self quarantine, you will be subject to the quarantine even if you're not a citizen of those nations. You may even face a ban from entering Ukraine should any one of those countries be experiencing an outbreak.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

Up until January of this year, people were hoarding dollars in Moscow
billions and billions worth!
now ALL these people want to DUMP those dollars and get ANYTHING else BUT dollars in return!

I can buy gold in London, for under $2,000 per oz from HSBC Bank
and sell it in Moscow for $2,500 per oz paid for with these no longer wanted dollars....

the profit on a 100 oz bar would be $50,000...

when you accumulate enough dollars selling gold...
you buy a distressed property in a good location
you fix it up, make it “super pooper”
pay for it in cash $$$, seller deposits cash in bank, he is the originator of deposit and NOT YOU!
after you fix the property, you rent it and start to receive a cash flow
and do this while you’re still working the gold trade
working towards accumulating the cash for your next real estate deal
and so on...

so all you end up doing is flying back and forth between London and Moscow
which isn’t a big deal at all, kinda like flying between East and West Coast in the USA
sell a couple of thousand ounces...flip a shop or apartment...
sell a couple of thousand ounces...flip a shop or apartment...
and so on...

this is how you score dollars in Russia for 30 percent discount!

How do you avoid 14 days quarantine in the UK...?

It's not like you can bribe border officials))

yes, sadly British Civil Servants are famously incorruptible...
I don't avoid....
this travel is not that frequent, and I like to watch Sky TV, much better than American fare...
this is the perfect time of the year for the UK!
and flying cargo is actually better than flying passenger

London is a HORRIBLE place for tourists to be right now
things that are normally BIG PLUSSES, museums, public transportation, shopping
are now off limits for me
that's SO frustrating

now my goal is to get out of London ASAP, so I have no choice but to lose some of my favorite things in my mother's ancestral homeland...
good thing England is so tiny, you can actually drive from some place like Cambridge to London in a reasonable amount of time, and mostly on a freeway!
when I mean tiny, please don't take it as an insult, I'm a Texan now.....
and it's been a hard day on the trail Pilgrim!

I believe the UK's 'compactness' and naval prowess is the reason it WAS so successful

Who is paying that kind of spread (25-30%) over spot?

Is there a definitive list of nationalities currently able to travel to Russia?

My understanding is that there's only about half a dozen nationalities (excluding diplomats, etc.) allowed to enter Russia right now.

A good Q

I have checked many so called  lists and found them unreliable.

Best to check with the Embassy/  consulate in your country.

Brits can enter, after proving they are 'free of Covid19

"Who is paying that kind of spread (25-30%) over spot?"

it used to be REALLY EASY to arbitrage gold between London and Moscow!
up until this year, there was a 20% VAT on all gold purchased by Russian citizens...
plus the London Gold Exchange spot price is almost always $10/oz cheaper than the NY Gold Exchange, and the Moscow exchange has an even higher price when factored in RUbles per gram, than either of them...

I am a commercial banking customer of HSBC Bank, and they buy and store gold for me, for a pretty small commission (paid for in sterling, so no record to USA government!)
and can take delivery inside the bank, and do whatever I want after that...

but now that the Russian VAT on gold has been suspended, the only people willing to give THAT steep of a discount on dollars
are....

people who literally have a vault FULL (as in no space left!) of dollars
and in view of the performance of the “dollar index”
are pretty damned desperate to get rid of these dollars ASAP
BUT...
have no legal way to invest or exchange such a LARGE AMOUNT of dollars without attracting UNWANTED attention!

in Moscow, a million dollars worth of gold in 10 oz bars all stacked up, is about the size of building brick and weighs about 40 lb
a million dollars in 100 dollar bills is two large suitcases full
and with a single bill counting machine will take about 30 minutes to count and “examine” for someone who is FAST and experienced

if I clear 20% on this transaction, then I can use this cash for the purchase of real estate
and structure everything so that the SELLER and NOT ME will be the one who is depositing the cash in Aval Bank, and so they are the one who has to do the declaration and disclosure and NOT ME!

I DO have a very keen eye for buying property in Russia!
Location! Location! Location!
and always look for a “distressed” property
buy it, fix it, rent it, and go on to the next one
in the past, I also sold properties, but I'm not planning on doing that this time

but...
at my age, toting 20 kilos of gold around is not REALLY a lot of fun, but ya do it if ya gotta...
the same amount of money in bitcoin, fits on a  flash card taped to the back of my dogtag
and I can make a similar level of commission compared to gold!!
but the customer wants what the customer wants...

if you have a krisha, connections, and know how to hustle
Moscow is a place to make some major money!

I'm more of a logistics and finance specialist there
than an engineer developer/manager, which is my "normal" occupation!!

stuff like this happens
I remember back in the late 90s, Russians would bust people for GPS access at some sensitive site
people ended up in jail for awhile over this
then they relaxed...
I guess now it's back to tightening security for "fire protection"

Trench, you would have to get a Russian Visa so it requires more effort and
a tiny bit more money, so you shouldn't even consider it. You have two or
three things to be afraid about, so you shouldn't even think about it.

FSUW want a man of action, that's not you so give this one a skip.

This is the time when you should be dialing your various self improvement
activities up to eleven.

Your Remodel Project maybe you can decide to hammer 4 nails per day
instead of one

Getting Ripped, you can do two pushups and two sit ups per week instead
of one.

Learning Russian, you can learn ONE word per day and one letter of the
alphabet per day instead of zero.

Too much?

Maybe this pursuit is not for you?
