Ukrainians protest as gas price dispute leaves houses freezing
« on: November 14, 2018, 05:52:42 PM »
Quote
Hundreds of Ukrainians took to the streets, protesting a sharp increase in gas price by the national gas company.
A dispute over gas prices has left more than a million people without supply, leaving them without heating.
Gas prices have been increased by 23 percent in Ukraine. Supply to those who couldn’t pay was cut off. As a result, at least six towns - with a combined population of more than a million - have to do without heating.

Wife's parents switched to gas for heating 20 or so years ago.

But, as cautious folks, they have kept a rather large supply of coal on hand . . . just in case.

Yes, they have a separate house, not an apartment unit.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

I was told in the summer in Kyiv (in some areas at least) people weren't paying their bills for hot water, so the government stopped supplying hot water.

Interesting they do the same for heating. Things can easily move from an inconvenience to breaking down if heat is not continuously supplied.

Not just is Kyiv.
It is whole area of on supply --local authorities not paying -- and as a result whole buildings and neighbor hoods having supply cut off.

Can get mighty cold out there without heating would no doubt be very unpleasant to suffer winter without means of heating. It could get horribly cold in those apartment blocks, dangerously cold to live I would imagine. Even here in the south of the UK the winter has been pretty mild so far this year and typically can be a little warmer than in Ukraine.

Just checked we're a balmy 12 degrees Celsius where I am in the UK at the moment :D Kiev is around freezing >:(
