March/April trip report to Russia
« on: April 10, 2009, 01:53:30 PM »
Well I just returned from 2 weeks or so in Tver and Moscow and I enjoyed myself, here's the trips report;

March 25th arrived at SVO, my friend was late (yep you guessed it infamous Moscow traffic), went to Tver.
Arrived at his house in Tver and unpacked and ate.
That evening the vodka came out, his neighbors came over and the drinking and Russian BBQ started.
the next 3 days consisted of eating, drinking and sleeping.  I finally made it to the down town Tver area and not much has changed.

I eventually made it to Moscow and although it was ok I still found it very impersonal and busy, I still prefer St. Petersburg.

Before anyone asks and starts the usual WOVO/WMVM argument I did not return to Russia to meet any ladies, but to visit some old friends and while there I made some new friends.

I will turn 40 in June and at this point in my life I have pretty much come to the conclusion this last year that a wife/family is not in my future so I will enjoy life and spend time with the few people I consider friends and not waste energy chasing windmills (I still have my humor ;D)

Now my liver will have a few months to recuperate before I return to Tver for New Years.

Nice beginning, acrzybear - will there be more to follow?

That's admirable, really. Part of me feels like you're now most ripe to happen upon the love of your life, though.

Will there be more to follow? Hmmmm I'm not sure.  Love of my life?  That would be nice, but as I get older I find myself just not really giving a damn any more.  Things are the way they are and if I am meant to have a family then I will do my best for them, until then I guess I'll just be the uncle to my friends kids.

At this point in time I am just focusing on what I know (work) and spending time with the few folks I call friends.

Crazy Bear, I was 40 when I found MrsShadow, and many guys here are around the same age.
While you may not be very active in looking, don't take down your profiles.
Some woman must be missing a guy like you in her life.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Ah!! but the the big difference my little bespectacled canine friend  is that most of you have been married prior to meeting your Russian ladies, while I on the other hand was having too much fun running around with my cap guns playing cops & robbers  ;D

Sorry to disappoint you but MrsShadow is my first (and hopefully only) marriage partner.

Well, acrzybear, if you really don't "give a damn" as you said earlier, I respect that. But if you're
just giving up all hope, I say don't. In some Russian cities, as you step off the train, people
will look at you and think, "Look at that - a YOUNG one..."

First marriages for men 40+ are not all that rare. I know of two myself in Florida, both married
FSU ladies - and both marriages have produced children. IMHO, it's early for you to hang up your spurs...

Don't worry Vaughn, my spurs are quite safe.  I'm just at a point where I will seize an opportunity if it presents itself.

Pushing desks and chasing windmills???  acrzybear...  you need to reconsider the FSUW thing!  Way too many inanimate objects are getting your attention!

Seriously though...  nice to hear you had a trip back..  just as nice that it was a holiday-type trip.

You know if you stop seeking marriage it'll come along when you last expect it.  It wold be a very nice surprise when it happens.

I know you may be taking a break from the seeking thing...  that's fine,  just never totally turn off the radar hey?

All the best with those desks and windmills!   ;D

acrzybear: I know the feeling you have. Alyona is my first marriage and I am and was 48 when we married.

If you do not wish to marry, more power to you, but if it is only because you feel you are to old all I can say I wish I was 40 when I started looking in the FSU.

Crazybear ---

Good to have you back posting. I always look forward to your insight. Perhaps because we shared the same career path, I'm sure we share many similar beliefs. Anyhow, you never know when and where love is going to find you.

I'm planning on returning to Dneptropevosk in June to hand deliver an engagement ring to the future Mrs. Jake.
I am currently waiting for the last of the signed documents to arrive ( hopefully next week) and the visa process then proceeds to the next step.

Stay safe ---
Jake

It's not that I don't want to marry, I do; however I would like to marry the right woman.  As far as being old, well I only feel that way when I wake up in the morning and hear all my bones creaking when I get out of bed-lol   I guess beneath all of my cynicism I am a romantic (I blame my mother) and still believe in fairy tales.  I am lucky in that the few friends I have I can count on if times get tough, How many people can go to Russia and make a phone call and their friend will drive 2+ hours to pick them up, take them to their house and feed them without asking for one ruble?

Now to find a good woman that can put up with my cynicism and sarcasm and shedding in the cave-that is the challenge ;D

Thanks Jake

I didn't post for almost a year due to some things that happened on the job that made me a not so nice person to be around. I was even thinking of changing my career choice, but came to the conclusion that if I quit then I would be giving up and that I can do more good where I'm at.
