Trip Reports can be a wonderful learning experience and yours is one that many will find to be a great benefit.  It was outstanding and I am sure you will have success be it from this trip or the next.

What surprises me is that Bill used to keep silence before. He had hardly posted anything on public boards (as far as I am concerned) before this trip. I wonder what happened.

Turbo, reading your 210 or so trip reports and now that you have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is an inspiration for all those who attempt this endeavour. I wish there was some way to catalog and arrange the Odyssey of Turbo (not unlike that of Homer) it would have a sticky and a must read for Newbies.

thank you for you kind words

I will send you a pm which will explain.

Thanks for the nice comments

For those who don't know Igor (Stirlitz) he is a great guy and if you are traveling to Ukraine
he can help you in a thousand different ways. He isn't simply a translator (which he is good at) but a
resource.

Bill, I have to say if I made trip reports on my efforts before finding RWD it would be a lot of good lessons in how NOT to do things.   I did have a lot of interesting experiences though and it was fun even if it did not produce the results I wanted at the time.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Michelangelo, I have read each of your trip reports a dozen times at least (ok a half a dozen times). Part of the reason I made this report is because of guys like you and Turbo

Thanks,

I will say this about Aeroflot.  Their domestic service has improved considerably since I first flew them a decade ago.   Even on a long domestic flight back then the only service was a beverage service and the only beverage was water.   The exit door area that we grill people about being fit enough to sit in were piled to the top of the exit door with luggage.   There were lots of stories about pigs running up and down the aisles on flights, of course dogs and cats too.   Of course in those days you didn't have to worry about fighting your way through the lines of pushy Ruskies.  You had to find your way to the door with the little sign that said Intourist and they kept you segregated from the natives.  Finding that little door was often like finding a needle in a haystack.   Sometimes you had to load your own bags on the plane just like a greyhound bus.

On international flights now, I could probably take it if they added a few more inches between the seats.  I am only 5'11" I don't know how a really tall person could squeeze in there at all.

Well if you lads would just think to spring for either a business class or 1st class ticket then you would find out the Aeroflot is a great airline. I have yet to fly coach and the reason for that is that I suspected what would happen is what you are now all complaining about. ON the other hand I have had world class service everytime I have flown on Aeroflot...which is only 4 times but the service was miles ahead of any domestic US airline.

To be honest the biggest complaint I have with aeroflot is the physical impossibility of getting my legs where they are suppsed to be in the alloted space and first class would solve that. Still for me I can make a trip every two months without tapping into my reserves and if I flew first class I could not do that. With other airlines I can at least feel like a human being and for the small amount of time the value is not there for me.

Leg room
« Reply #86 on: February 06, 2007, 04:55:29 PM »
I got to agree with Turbo on this one there wasn't ANY leg room, I realize that no airline
makes seats for me but this airline had the least amount of legroom in a regular seat for an international flight that I have ever experienced.

PeeWee

Not everybody has your ability to pay for first class or the knack to be upgraded especially me the poor pensioner from UK.

I am sorry I have to disagree with you about the Aeroflot London service, which I found even in coach class very good and much better than KLM, Lufthansa and of course BA, but then I am only 1.80 m height so I have no problems with my legroom in the brand new Airbus 321 Aeroflot flies from London to Moscow.

In the past I flew a few times Continental from London, NW and American coach class and found their services the same as the Aeroflot on their very old Tupolev 154 between Moscow and Ufa..........

On the hand I flew Miami-London on Continental first class and also LA - London Upper class on Virgin and Virgin was miles ahead of CO.

Sorry but I will stick to my coach class which now I can afford.....LOL

Things I always pack for my trip

I know that the kind of clothes to bring depends on the time of year.

I walk on average 5-10 miles per day so I bring very good walking shoes and a pair of hiking boots.

Foot powder or baby powder makes those ten miles more comfortable.

Small Flashlight, I have never been to the FSU without the power going off at least once.

Condoms, did you ever need one and not have one? It is not a good feeling.

Chap Stick to keep those lips kissable and works for hang nails too

I-pod / CD player

Gum, I bring a lot and offer it out to Ruskias they seem to appreciate it.

Digital camera

Extra change of clothes in your carry on bag.

Electric converters and adapters

Some coffee table picture books of your area

Baby wipes

I bring a Swiss army knife in my packed luggage. I have used the little scissors and the screwdriver feature on every single trip at least once.

I have an estaco electronic translator it is incredibly useful. You must be able to spell to use it however so a handheld dictionary is a good back up.

A full size American fluffy bath towel, the ones in the apartments are always small and thread bare.

Things I do before heading out on a trip
Haircut a week before, I think it takes a week before my hair looks good after a haircut obviously YMMV
I get a manicure and pedicure a day or two before leaving, I know it’s not the most manly thing to do but they do look at your finger nails.
I check to see that there is no hair growing where it shouldn't ie, nose ears etc.

The last thing I reccomend it to bring your sense of humor. Things rarely go as planned and yet you can still have a good time if you have your head on straight.

Latest update. V2 the lady I liked the most decided that she didn't want to continue with me. The trip as a result was a bust, I will regroup and plan for my next endeavour.

Sorry to hear that Bill.   The pathway to happiness has a few potholes along the way sometimes but hang in there and you will find someone who makes you happy that she decided she did not wish to continue.

Bill,

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Her loss right! Now you'll have another chance to see a different place and get new experiences.

Ok, I stepped in it now. I managed to make several Russian women mad at me by posting their photos. I thought by covering the ladies eyes that I was protecting their identity.

One lady actually gave me permission to put her photo in the report but the others did not.

Also somehow one lady thought I said I slept with several Russian women. I never wrote that I did and the truth is I did not sleep with any of the women and if I did I surely wouldn't write about it in a trip report.

The Cute helpful agency manager whos name I got wrong in the report is named NAstya.
