And you are welcome in the Republic of Georgia a 2 1/2 hours flight from Kiev. 360 days of residency with a border jump back and forth to get another 360 days, good for Americans and Ukrainians and most Westerners.

as an American who’s lived abroad for a number of years, I can tell you that in pre-internet days BBC Radio/TV was sometimes my only contact with the outside world.

hopefully US networks that show hugely popular BBC shows pay something back to the BBC for this privilege!!

Unless the copyrights have expired, TV networks MUST pay something to the original producers for what they air second-hand - at least where copyright law is observed, if not waived for some reason.

I fear your memory is playing you false, krimster!  Apart from the fact that ordinary news bulletins are (without any exception that I know of) on the hour, there is no such time as "Midnight thirty" in English.  I can't imagine any BBC announcer quoting this particular time as anything other than half-past twelve or twelve-thirty.

Looking at an old Radio Times for July 1981 closedown on BBC1 was never later than midnight-thirty...

This person is simply posting in a forum - they are NOT a BBC Radio announcer signing off for the night!
