A strange scam after almost 3 months
« on: April 20, 2018, 10:57:16 AM »
Still trying to piece this one together or what the purpose of the scam was...

About 3 months ago I started talking with a girl from a PPL site and about 6 weeks ago she started talking to me off site she found my facebook and profile info through messages sent back and forth on the site and we started talking on Telegram, videos through email and also setting up Skype.

But Skype was through her "work" computer and no audio would work for either of us. This is probably where I should have moved on. I was preparing to fly to see her in Kharkiv in a few weeks but she wouldn't commit to a date and a few other things started setting off flags so I did a background check on her. Found her address, Instagram, Facebook as well as her brothers instagram and facebook. Most of her info matched except it showed she was unemployed not working as a Business Development Manager for a company as she said.

Throughout this entire time we spoke for hours each day via text even at 1 or 2 am Ukraine time, she never asked for any gifts or money which was against what I thought a scammer would do...even turned down a gift saying it wasn't necessary though she appreciated it for Easter. I don't think this was the agency but maybe an employee or writer of the agency.

Fast forward to last night. She sends me a message saying she ran into her ex on the metro and she's in shock, blah blah and that she needed to be alone for a while. Cryptic stuff. I got worried she had been hurt or in trouble and contacted her brother through Facebook and VK. Apparently the person I'd been talking to, the Videos, and the Skype weren't her. He handed the phone to her and showed her everything. She was pretty pissed when she found out they were still using her info and they were pretty surprised at all the information I was able to pull via the background check.

Anyone else ever heard of this happening? I still have no clue what the purpose or intent of this scam could be.

I confronted the "Alina" on Telegram about it and she blocked me, so for me that confirms it.

Attaching excerpts of our conversation with the Identity info Stripped out.

Latest update. After Confronting her on Telegram I get this message on the PPL site not 20 minutes later.

Pretty common for an agency to use an ex members profile.

Sure, but to what end and purpose? "She" wasn't asking for money or gifts. Maybe that was the plan after a few more weeks?

It could have been anything man. If you spend too much time trying to figure out the angle you will just cloud your goal like a head full of acid.

Hey Ivan, this is the problem with not having actual face to face comms via video. Time to move on and not waste any more time thinking about it. There are plenty of good sincere women out there. your already on your way so forget this one.

you were "catfished" just be glad it didn't cost you $$$
the person doing it was likely a scammer writing many folks like yourself
probably the ex boyfriend was someone else she was writing to with the stolen ID
who caught her at it like you did, and so she panicked and shut down...

what's your age and background?

C'mon Krimster2 we were just talking the other day on "Pursuing FSUW 101. The procedures and the dating websites." :D

I'm 27, and a Network Architect. She was 25, a friend of mine in Romania thinks she may be an escort or just have rich parents/boyfriend since she's been all over Europe in Prague, Tbilisi, Odessa, Kiev, Tel Aviv, Rome etc.

Didn't know that until I uncovered he instagram.

Seems more like a prep job to me. Coming from a dirty man like myself. Giving the fact you got worried about her she played her cards wrong and folded but she’ll get better...your more of a learning experience. Next guy might not be as lucky. Women can smell stupidity even from thousands of miles away. The agency is testing new tricks... men have caught on..they have to upgrade..they failed but they will get better.

No worries, just giving you a hard time :)

Very true. Ever since Hammer and I had been messaging back and forth about this I'd been exploring other options on FDating and DMNotify. 2 Prospects currently. One in a small village about 3 hours outside of Odessa (The hilarious one I quoted in FSU 101" and one in Kharkiv (The Java Programmer) There's also a girl in Cali, Colombia that's another possibility.

We'll see what happens, I'm still planning on that trip next month. Both were talking about wanting to do a video chat on Skype this weekend. I think i'm gonna try the auto translator earbuds then to see how well it works.

Prep job? What do you mean?

I got worried mostly because things with her social media wasn't adding up and we kept experiencing technical difficulties during video skype in that she was on the video but microphone wasn't working so within 5 minutes or so she would end the call while texting me about the problems.

I'm guessing it was Agency stuff for them to get a hold of those videos she sent via email and the "live" video on Skype

Terrible job editing out Alina’s identity info.

May be so,  but unlike you, I didn't feel the need to zoom in and forensically examine, followed by revealing the name....

You must be feeling so proud

sucks man, getting a bad break like that
but this can be a lesson on learning about how to handle such setbacks

one Russian word ya gotta know, “bardack”  it means chaos

I call Ukraine “Bardakistan”

everything is pure chaos there!
so no one’s plan in Ukraine ever follows a straight line!
no one’s - it’s normal there!
I wonder how people “on the spectrum” will see Ukraine?

well you should spend as much time as possible scouting prospects for your trip
Kharkiv is a great place to visit, college town, and a tech one at that, I hired 2 engineers from there, been there twice but that was 10+ years ago, but I do remember tons of bonny lasses

you will probably gravitate towards one in particular, try to skype as much as possible
tune your red flag detector!!!
I think you like Java girl, is she well structured?

your initial meeting will be a blend of powerful emotions
excitement
uncertainty
insecurity
confusion

your initial meeting will go one of two ways...
either it will be a catastrophe!
or you find that after a couple of more meetings you really like this girl and you’re starting to think she likes you!

Now let’s get to a subject I’m sure you’re all eager to read about!
Your first sexual experience in Ukraine!

I can tell you based upon my own experience that things may not go “as planned”
So whatever you have envisioned, don’t feel disappointment if you don’t get exactly what you want

cuz whatever you’re going to get will still be pretty darned good, and I don’t think you’re gonna complain very much about it!!

so there’s always the question of “does she like me”, “how do I make my move”

here’s my advice.

First, give her a reason to like you!
learn everything about her, her background, family, ask her the moments she was happiest in life
then think to yourself, “if I was her, what could I do that would be pleasing”?
and do it!
do the things that make her laugh, when a woman laugh she lets her guard down
this is how you connect
for this kind of girl, please do not get sexual with her before the third date, UNLESS she initiates it, I can explain why in detail if you want, but it’s a cultural thing, but 3 dates before sex, OK?

now making your move...

a good soldier always knows how to use the local terrain to his advantage
you’re a good soldier aren’t ya?

I always like to take advantage of “low hanging fruit”
in Ukraine the low hanging fruit is the banya or sauna
totally appropriate for you to take your date to the sauna, after say the 3rd date
I could never imagine doing that in the USA!!
Sauna has a changing room, sauna, shower, and sometimes a small pool
so.... you have to undress together in the changing room and head to the sauna!
there you will sit naked to each other on a wooden bench and you can discuss whatever “comes up”

isn’t this great!
how many times in your life are you going to be sitting next to a beautiful woman you’re seeing naked for the first time?
when I was doing my sabbatical in Kyiv, this would be my typical Friday evening...  in St Petersburg they're even more into saunas, my girlfriend there would make me run out of the sauna into the snow! this is all part of Russian kultur

Maybe that was the plan after a few more weeks?

It's a pay per view site. She was probably a paid employee there
and got a commission on every minute of chat or every letter sent.
My guess is that she was trying to lure you back somehow. When
you peaked behind the curtain and saw that the Wizard of Oz wasn't
all that great she dumped you and moved on. JUST LIKE YOU SHOULD
DO.

My advice is to stop worrying about it and move on. You got out
of the situation without having your kidneys sold on the black market.
You paid a few bucks of tuition to the school of hard knocks and
hopefully you learned a thing or two.

Just re-read the section about the Skype with no sound.  That excuse is used when a woman is using a video loop.
