MSMOB calling herpes a sexually transmitted disease and making a big issue of it.  50 percent of the adults tested in the UK carry herpes antibodies .   Most people catch herpes before 16 before most are sexually active.  There is some evidence that oral herpes prevents genital herpes.  Herpes virus hides in nerve cells and outbreaks occur relative to stress.  MSMOB I suggest you reduce your stress levels.

People can carry herpes virus for many years before a stressful event causes an outbreak so its impossible to say who gave who herpes you may have caught it years before behind the bike sheds at school.  First outbreak could have been so minor that symptoms went unnoticed with your acne and then the stress of your divorce brought on a mega outbreak.  Go ask a medical professional please these are facts.

Jams, I'm sat next to a retired Gynaecologist surgeon and he'd be rolling your eyes at your 'suggestion'  - if I showed it to him

So msmob you talk absolute rubbish about herpes and then don't show my post to the retired gynecolgist so you could come back with a medical factual reply.

Strange thread, at least from this Americans perspective...

There’s spelling variations of gynecology being thrown about here over a viral infectious disease, which just added to a bigger confusion. So methinks this is a British thing. In the US, a gynecologist is a medical practitioner dealing with the function and diseases specific to women, with greater emphasis in female reproductive system.

So, is it safe to assume Moby is pregnant? Or The LGBTQ movement have now totally confused gender specification/designation in the UK?

No wonder the EU is no longer interested in making a deal with you folks.

Just sayin'...

I think that a discussion about Moby's personal virus isn't something that needs to
be rehashed. He is out of the dating scene and his partner knows about it and quite
frankly is their business (I realize Moby is the one who brought it up).

The wisdom of wearing a raincoat especially when dating in the FSU is a very relevant
discussion to be had especially for the Newbies who are reading here although they
aren't likely to find it here in the off topic willy wavering thread.

I am busy today, but I'll start a thread about Condoms in the starting out section then
come back and post a link here.

To be quite clear there is good anecdotal evidence that herpes is passed amoung family members generation to generation  by kissing and touching and I do not mean in any perverted way and then passed between  non related teens via kissing and oral sex.  For some as yet unexplained reason the site of first infection ie mouth or genetals seems to be where the virus outbreaks predominate.  When an outbreak of sores heals the virus retreats into nerve cells and lies dormant until stimulated into another outbreak by tissue damage or stress.

OK, I told him and he said, " tell your friend to visit the local GUM Clinic and say that" ...

Beel... wearing a raincoat is no guarantee to stop the transfer ...

In reality, think surgical gloves ( each of you ), no kissing .......

NOTHING IN THIS WORLD IS 100% GUARANTEED FOR EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME

You can still stop most pregnancies and other disease transfers.

Gum clinics don't test for herpes it's so prevalent.   So msmob must have paid for his analysis.  Cold sores on the face are herpes.  As I said before for some reason the outbreaks tend to stay in the original area they were caught so there is evidence that oral herpes protects most sufferers from genetal herpes although some people have both.

I may be wrong, but were they not known once as chilblains, due to insufficient household heating ;)?

Beel, you have responded to a suggestion to James and not paid attention to the context ...so your 'response' is nonsensical (

James, did no-one tell you that it is wiser to ask a question than make a daft statement ? ;)

UK GUM clinics DID test for HSV I/II and pregnant women and *I* wasn't in the UK ......when regularly testing and still clear....

I've never had a outbreak

Msmob  you are wrong why test for something 50 percent of the adult population carries.  They test for syphilis as this can be passed to the child as it is born affecting eyes so a c section is performed and any other stds ie hiv and others that can be passed to staff and the baby will need therapy for.  So if msmob you have syphilis it explains a lot as it's starting to affect your brain.

1/ How do you 'know' the '50 percent' figure - given that it is no longer tested for at GUM clinics ? The point being that in FSU nations the figure is reckoned to be higher...  I remember finding this estimate from a WHO source - 6 years ago

2/ HSV I/II is tested for if a pregnant women presents the symptoms

Now, given you clearly aren't thinking straight and don't have someone (who really knows) sharing the house - at the mo - you last comment could - at a stretch - be more applicable to your good self ? !

Msmob obviously it was batch testing of people in the UK.  Secondly the evidence in a woman would be the presence of pustules for a virus that's incurable and has no real health implications apart from secondary infection so why would you test to prove the point as there is  no therapy.  If you would like to have a structured argument  please do..as has been eluded to by others when you are wrong you don't make a structured  factual point you bluff.

If a pregnant woman has an active outbreak of HSV-2 at the time of delivery, most obstetricians would suggest a C-section.

HSV-2 is tested for during pregnancy where I live, although if a woman does not have an active outbreak at the time of delivery, she can still deliver her baby vaginally.  Passing HSV- to a newborn during delivery is extremely rare, probably because of screening and the fact the mother produces antibodies, but it can have devastating results if a newborn does contract it during delivery.

This post was composed without the aid of google.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten
