I swear I've never seen this thread until minutes ago.....

My local buddy "corp" was married last spring. At least, it
looked like him and Natalia at the wedding we attended...

Thanks for the congrats, Dan. We're hanging in there.

Great thread, Dan!  I guess I can now be included in the list as well.  I have been married for over 3 years now and am very happy.  My husband and I dated for about 2 years before getting engaged, so we pretty much knew what we were getting into.  ;)

Me and Natasha have been very happily married and had our first anniversary a week ago now.
We have been very happy, that's not to say that we don't have arguments but we always manage to sort it out.
Good luck to all those who don't yet have one

This message mainly for Phil dAmore. I'm new to this forum. Have been married to my lovely wife Elena for six years. Have a wonderful 5 year old daughter.

For the future, our intention is to live in Russia part-time (during the summer months). We recently purchased property. My question is how have you been surviving in Russia? If you don't mind, I'd like to know your experiences of adjustment,  what part of Russia do you live in. My wife's from Stavropol.

Take care.

Vince

Just adding my name here.   Will be 5 years this coming February.

My oldest step-daughter was married last year.  ( still living in Almaty ) and just had a baby boy 3 weeks ago . So my wife is now a Grandma, though she doesn't know yet how to feel about it.  I guess by default I am now a Grandpa. Don't know yet how I feel about it either.   Feels a bit wierd .

The other 2 step-daughters are doing great  and will be 16 and 18 this winter .

                 Life is good.

Congratulations SJ.  You have become very mellow in recent months.

Have updated my profile - Sveta and I were married in Oregon in November 2006 - her 2 year green-card anniversary will happen in May 2010 (much appreciation to this and the old board ;o)).

Married to Alla for 14 months, some years after joining RWD.

The problem with marriage to a dream (and especially in the growing season), is that there is less time and inclination to hang out on boards.

Looks like I have to update my profile.  Did join in 2006 before getting married, and was a whirlwind 6 months with 3 trips, the last Thanksgiving week 2006 where we got married in Kharkiv, passport stamped and all.  So approaching 3 years with many many more to go for Olga and I.

Thanks for the thread and for everything people have written here over the years.

I've been away from this forum for a long time. I see that my handle wasn't included among the married folk. For the record, I've been married to the same lady, originally from Ukraine but now a citizen of the USA, for the past nine years.  And to answer another survey question, I'm eight years older than she, though she looks younger :-) Being married to someone from another culture does have its challenges, we still have language issues, but that's all part of the total marriage package.  The bottom line is that I'm glad I married the lady I did, but I wish we had met sooner.

Congratulations Air Dog. I for one would love to read how you met your wife and how you both overcame the usual challenges those of us in international relations face.

Congratulations Air Dog. I for one would love to read how you met your wife and how you both overcame the usual challenges those of us in international relations face.

Thanks. In answer to your first question, my wife and I met in the usual way.The big major difference being that at th time I was in the military, stationed in Italy. We married in Kiev and spent the first two years of our marriage in Italy. Getting her to Itay, and then immigrated to the USA, was a major challenge. We had to dea with officially four, in reality five, languages, to get everything accomplished.

As for advice for those guys who are newly married, or thinking of getting married, to a lady from the FSU, remember that patience is paramount! Your lady is coming to a land that will seem very strange to her. She probably doesn't have any family or friends nearby. You are her support system. Learn at least some basic phrases in her native language. Expect her to get depressed. Become her best friend, but encourage her to make new friends. Try to to find similar couples and socialize with them. If she doesn't know how to drive a car teach her. Encourage her to take classes at your local community college.  Give her some personal space. And buy her flowers for no apparent reason. That's a mistake I keep making  :cluebat:
