We don't celebrate Thanksgiving more than Christmas in North America

Mexico: doesn't have a Thanksgiving.

Canada:The very first Thanksgiving celebration in North America took place in
Canada when Martin Frobisher, an explorer from England, arrived in Newfoundland in
1578. He wanted to give thanks for his safe arrival to the New World. That means the
first Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated 43 years before the pilgrims landed in
Plymouth, Massachusetts!

USAians:As was the custom in England, the Pilgrims celebrated their harvest with
a festival. The 50 remaining colonists (52 died from starvation and disease) and roughly
90 Wampanoag tribesmen attended the "First USA Thanksgiving."

We dined twice.  Five of us at my club, then we moved a few hours later to a group of over 20 Armenians with a splattering of Russians.

They had adopted the Thanksgiving holiday yet served untraditional Thanksgiving dishes.   One example was selyodka pod shuboy (salty fish under fur coat). The hostess pointed to another dish, a roasted carcass sans skin, and said something I could not understand in her accent.  It sounded like "dog" and it was long with legs at one end.  Upon clarification, it was "duck."   Besides, she had a friendly Black Russian Terrier roaming around the house.

We went to a 4-5 star hotel for a unending buffet of mostly very tasty food, especially the deserts.

I voted to not go, because you can only get so full whether at $10.99 each or $49.99 each.

But Ochka over ruled me, so we were silly and spent the money.

She had purchased a new dress which she looked delightful in, thus best part for me was 'showing her off.'

We did tons of shopping today on Black Friday.

Tomorrow we go to Ukrainian get-together feast at another couple's house.  5 married couples plus 2-4 singles, plus some children.  They mostly all had other plans for Thanksgiving day, so this day was chosen for a second feast.

We had a mixed Thanksgiving as well. My Russian wife, two Ukrainians and the rest were
Americans. We had Shuba, blini with fruit and cream, along with Turkey, rolls, mashed
potatoes, candied yams, home made canned pickles and tomatoes and hors d'oeuvres.
My son made Chocolate cheesecake pie and pumpkin pies.

Figs and dates from the desert for dessert, then we disserted about the desserts until the premises was deserted and it was so dark we could barely discern our car in the parking lot.

And was there any dissent about how decent your descent to said car park should be?

No . . . because the parking lot was uphill.
