Dan - I was wondering if there was a way we could safely have more detailed information about ourselves in our profile so we could know where a guy was involved in the process, how many trips he took to where etc., where he was from in the States, Europe or world etc.  It would be good to know approximate age and interests of guys as well.  My reasoning is that the more we know about each other as a group, the friendlier discussions would become.  Of course extremely personal information should not be given and email addresses should be handled delicately as well.  Perhaps a paragraph like I have seen on the PL board would suffice.  Of course a guy is free to give everything or nothing about himself on an introductory page.  It just seems the format here lends itself to a guy giving out absolutely nothing about himself.

Bruce,

The board software does not yet have a feature for placing more permanent information about each member. As it is, VERY few members place more than a bare minimum of information, so I wonder if they would be any more forthcoming with greater capacity to post information.

In any case, some members have posted topics about themselves to introduce themselves to the board. In the interim, that is an option.

One other possibility is I could create a section for member profiles, and each member could post a new topic about themselves.

- Dan

Added Dec 9 2005:

The developers of the board software have announced this feature - Custom User Fields - will be released in version 1.7. Note that we are currently using version 1.65 - so this new release should be available soon.
