Just go see the play "The Two Gentlemen of Voronezh."  It will be like a visit to Voronezh.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Trippin in the warm sandy beaches of Mustang Island
« Reply #1279 on: May 25, 2020, 10:27:38 AM »
NOTE: For those who want to comment on visiting the
beach and covid, go start a thread and comment there.

We have been cooped up indoors for many weeks and
I decided that frolicking on the sandy beaches and Salt
water was way better.

Mini Me is getting his road trip on

So many waves, so much sand what to do first?

Things didn't go perfectly. On the first night I was driving and the right
front tire blew out. I put on the stupid miniature spare tire (it took me
almost two hours to do this) sweating like a pig and drove back to the
hotel. The next morning the left front tire popped as well. Grrrrr......

more to come

They have Fire Ants in Texas. They aren't called pesky ants,
they aren't called inconvenient ants. They are called fire ants
it's because it's not fun when they bite you.

NOTE TO SELF: Do not run over fire ant hill with

Angel Eyes has a garden that produces enough pickle
size cucumbers to feed a small island nation. She also
recipe for pickles but it's a bit plain.

My Auntie has a recipe for pickles and has won a blue
ribbon in the county fair for a couple decades in a row.
My Auntie loves me but not enough to share her recipe
with me.

So I have been experimenting with recipes looking for
something zesty and spicy that is similar to what my
Auntie has.

My first batch I think I had too much vinegar. I tend to
over do it to keep the acid content high.

I use a combination of dried hot red chili peppers, garlic, mustard
seeds, dill seed, garlic, peppercorns, dill, crushed bay leaves, onions,
horse radish leaves, allspice berries, coriander seeds and salt.

They grow peaches near where we live so I bought a half bushel of them.
Angel Eyes makes it into Jam and it's fantastic for blini, ice cream or even
toast.

Her jam is far better than anything that you can buy in a store
and doesn't a million preservatives and additives in it. Yes she
uses every type of jar and lid. It doesn't matter how many jars
or lids that I buy she will still use her recycled stuff.

I've argued with her about it but she is incredibly stubborn and
has agreed not to give any Franken Jars away to my friends or
relatives. Her Russian girlfriends LOVE her franken jar jam.

The garden is still producing tomatoes. We had to build a
cover over the top that lets a little sun in. Apparently in
Texas the heat kills tomatoes. I put 8 ft tall posts around
the tomato portion of our garden and I built a wire mesh
above them put what could be described as a camouflage
canopy for the top. It allows some sun and some ventilation.

Who knows if it will work.

Tomorrow I will be making salsa and Angel Eyes will be canning
it for me. This year we have a variety of hot peppers that are
ready to be picked and added to the salsa.

Usually I fry, then smoke the hot peppers. It adds a lot of
flavor and I'll take photos tomorrow (hopefully).

Udachi!

Bill,

If that camo cloth does not work out try looking for "Shade Cloth". It is made to block X% of sun light and is used in gardens and greenhouses.

Camarillo is huge for tomato crop. They grow them in these rows of massive greenhouses - hot house tomatoes. I don’t know how big of an area you have for your tomato plot but they love humid condition. You can get greenhouses in various sizes and they relatively inexpensive.

hot houses

Otherwise you can get sheets of 16 mil visqueen for shade. It filters the sun and traps the moisture inside promoting higher level of carbon.

We have many varieties of tomatoes, Mamma from Voronezh gave Angel
Eyes some seeds plus she exchanges seeds with the local Russian girl
network. We bought many varieties on Amazon and she keeps seeds from
the tastiest tomatoes she harvests each year.

I have tried for many years to grow tomatoes myself and have been very
unsuccessful so Angel Eyes is totally in charge. I built the sun screen
apparatus because Angel Eyes would have built something cobbled together
with stuff in our garage, a couple of ropes and it would have blown over
and wrecked the tomatoes the first time the wind blew.

I went to Home Desperate and bought several 8 ft tall steel fence posts
then made a wire net above and then put the canopy on top.

I will have to take photos and post them here.

I will take some photos and post them here

If it's camo netting, it would be better than visqueen or cloth. I use 40' x 100' visqueen to keep rain off dirt and lots of sandbags are needed to keep it down since the wind will pick it up like a parachute and send it thousands of feet down the road. Camo netting allows air to pass through.

Camo netting allows air to pass through.

Yes, it does.

It's approximately 10ft by 18ft (3 meters x 5.4)

In this section we have tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, basil, and
various salad ingredients.

The purple dish is called Selyodka pod shuboy  or Shuba for short.

This is called Herring with a fur coat. However Angel Eyes made this
with Steelhead then salted and spiced it herself. It's a truly incredible
combination of flavors. NOTE not everybody likes this.

The cake is really, really tasty. It takes at least 6 hours to make and
it's a combination of two recipes for
Tort Kievsky & Pitsutz (Russian)
Tort Kyevskyy & Pytsuts  (Ukrainian)
Киевский & Пицуц (Russian)
.
It's a nutty, sweet, chocolatey and crunchy but moist not dry.

NOTE TO ALL Your wife must really love you to make this for you. It
takes too long and has too many details for her to make it if she is
only so-so about you

Note to those who speak Ukrainian, please feel free to correct my spelling
or Transliteration. Angel Eyes checked my Russian

Was she too young? Did it happen too fast?

I think when you started dating Angel Eyes, Smiley Girl was only 12-13. They do grow up quickly in the FSU.

Note: If you have Covid comments there are threads all about covid
for you to comment on.

We are having two couples over for food and drinks both the women
are Russian. There will be some kids involved as well. I have to clear
one of my work tables to make a kids table.

Angel Eyes and two other Russian women are cooking up a storm for
the get together tomorrow. Naturally, with three Russian women all
competing like Olympians to produce more food than can be consumed
by all the starving children in Africa.

The original party was for Angel Eyes passing her final tests and
getting her citizenship, but she hasn't gotten it yet. She did pass
the tests in English and Government but then she had to answer a
series of questions that she didn't understand but knew they were
life or death questions.

She was given the questions verbally and she locked up and shut down
and said, repeatedly that she doesn't understand the questions.

Example below of statement before the questions began.

"If any of Item Numbers 22. - 28. apply to you, you must answer "Yes" even
if your records have been sealed, expunged, or otherwise cleared. You must
disclose this information even if someone, including a judge, law enforcement
officer, or attorney, told you that it no longer constitutes a record or told you
that you do not have to disclose the information."

She got nervous and knew that she didn't understand Expunged or otherwise
cleared among other phrases. So now she has to go back and answer those
questions and then she can become a citizen.

Regardless a party has been planned and the show must go on.

We apparently don't have the proper amount of identical wine glasses and
mismatched glasses won't do. I am dropping off Angel Eyes to remedy that
situation while I will be shopping for the ingredients for the food I will be
making.

Big Bill, those are the same questions that are on the printed (or on-line) document that must be answered and submitted before the interview.

Yes, they are exactly. She was asked these questions for her first interview
but I had hired a translator to help. She was in with the USCIS official alone
and she got scared, obviously you can't answer any of those questions
incorrectly.

She will be fine for her next and hopefully last interview.
