Title: Online Dating-The Bad News
Post by: Grumpy on April 06, 2019, 10:07:36 PM
Fake profiles on Match, yeah we all knew it.
http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2019/04/how-matchcom-digitized-dating/586603/

Indeed, the profit models of many online-dating sites are at cross-purposes with clients who are trying to develop long-term commitments. A permanently paired-off dater, after all, means a lost revenue stream. Explaining the mentality of a typical dating-site executive, Justin Parfitt, a dating entrepreneur based in San Francisco, puts the matter bluntly: “They’re thinking, Let’s keep this fucker coming back to the site as often as we can.” For instance, long after their accounts become inactive on Match.com and some other sites, lapsed users receive notifications informing them that wonderful people are browsing their profiles and are eager to chat. “Most of our users are return customers,” says Match.com’s Blatt.

Online dating is one of the few industries in which companies have a vested interest in their clients' failure.

There is a book out about the start of Match.com

Online dating sites exist for one purpose only, to empty your wallet.

Online dating sites exist for one purpose only, to empty your wallet.

Therre are a few real women at domestic and international dating sites. Some men can't tell when agency employees or scammers are writing them. Some men don't understand how sincere women write. Loneliness will be some men's companion for most their lives. Other men can identify real people and attract them. Women will constantly be some men's companion for most of their lives.

Many of the online sites have the same owners. Match Group,a division of IAC, owns at least 10. This does not include the sites they bought out and merged into their other sites. If I recall correctly, Match.coms rapid growth was fueled by the purchase of msn personals and later by yahoo personals and some smaller sites.
It is definitely a big and profitable business.

Not one FSU based dating site on that list. Seen a USA based website named "Intoyou" on that list. Never heard of it. Alexa may be promoting certain websites over others. Jeff Bezos owns it and being a Democrat and Hillary supporter, he hates Russia.

Apparently dating apps are very popular with younger adults. I'm too old to know much about them, but here is some info for those interested.

Interesting article in the Register today.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/05/31/ai_software_catfishing/

Seems someone is working on AI to identify scammers.
Be sure to read the comments at the end of the article.

Using big head, not little head, is still the best defense.

Of course, being a UK publication, I thought they were referring to the best defenCe....

When I read you referring to AI, I thought you might be posting about  our ex PM ( Cameron) ...[we are having so many, it needed clarification] joining an AI firm...

...in the context of big and little heads...of course....

Another Brit might explain, if this all seems too much...

Careful, you're starting to sound as paranoid as me ;D

Theoretically, with relationships starting and finishing all the time and with each younger generation joining they needn't worry. At least not so much as to want their members to fail. Then again if you can siphon them through a system/dating web site that is doing them no favours then they can keep squeezing the same people until they come to realise it's all a sham or bugger off through getting no joy.

What no 'mamba' ?- surely not !

That site had unfortunately slid a lot in the past year. Mamba is unfortunately nothing more than a poorly functioning website/system now like I mentioned above.

Of recent Mamba have been getting onto the old 'reoccuring subscription' scam. When members join their VIP subscription which you now have to do to get any vague access to members and even then it can be vague access you are automatically put onto an automatic subscription. They do do t make you explicitly aware you are on automatic renewal but hide it in their terms and conditions and make it as obscure as possible. Legal in many countries it may still be but ethical or right certainly not. There is also no account screen where you are told what you are on just an ambiguous VIP word. Cancelling has also been made a process of email, etc to put the client to a lot of bother. We fortunately aren't talking vast sums of money here but it's more they way they operate and just take money out of your bank account without giving you notice or you expecting it that is just plain off.

You DO realise that the bucket never gets fuller or emptier - that 'older' folk 'disappear' as younger clients 'appear' ..

I hope this 'news' doesn't upset you .. it's just seems that you like to post some truly daft observations ;)

Most dating sites do not have too much control over relationships not working out .... Dating / Marriage agencies DO ...

Understand the difference ?

I am not recommending any site.
You can have good or bad experiences anywhere.
Customer reviews should always be taken with a large dose of salt.
Any site owner can have a friend post a good review of his site,
or a bad review of a competitors site.
Such things have been known to happen.
You could register at the site and post a review of any site you have current knowledge of.

I posted the link for the guys asking if some site is good or not.
They can compare features, prices, descriptions, reviews, etc and make their own decision.
They might also learn of some sites they didn't know about.
Hopefully they will come back and tell us about their own experience. :)

This site is plain misleading.

You are doing a disservice to lurkers who visit the site for hints.

agencies serve up an illusion of something that’s ACTUALLY real
all they gotta do is have the glossiest photos for the bait
and look how HARD that bait gets hit by you guys!!!!

hmmm hmmmmm...
debatable what percentage of the profiles are 100% scams, maybe even male writers, who yes, ARE named Yuri
and what percentage are girls playing a couple of guys, trying to string out the letters
and being REAL SWEET near woman’s day to angle for a present you buy her from the agency

y’know what you guys remind me of?

couple years ago, I designed a settop box ASIC for NEC, a Japanese Co, I worked through their San Jose, Ca office, but twice, I had to go to their Tokyo office.....
I met my peers in Tokyo, team building, rah, rah, exercise in the morning
y’know what these jokers all got?
Virtual Girlfriends!!!!!!
I kid you freakin not!!!!
Virtual Freakin’ Girlfriends
Thought it was a joke
but they had a Japanese girlfriend app on their phone
A live freakin woman who pretends to be their REAL girl friend on the phone
and will FREAKIN' call him and make sure he’s eating OK!!!!!

WTF?????

OK, I get y’all....

I really do, I follow my own reality as well....

but look, sure y’can cut out half the scammers just with Skype
but in some way, the WHOLE THING is a scam
and is really just two people trying to make some money
the agency owner, and his free agent contractor, the girl
doesn’t mean you won’t pull it off, I’ve seen some of the craziest stuff imaginable in Ukraine, it’s routine
but it means there’s likely more going on in this relationship then you’re aware of

IF you meet a woman at an agency,
totally focus on getting her out of the agency and just you and her
not hard to put an obscured sign on your wall with your email address when you video chat
now is it....

this is kinda the poor man’s way
lowest common denominator
so it’ll be INSANELY popular.....

smart guys will reject short term thinking and skip agencies completely!!

ALL the young girls do social media in the FSU
like VKontakte or VK
or Viber

if you were to master VK or Viber, you’d have more pooty-tang then you’d ever know what to do with
but ya gotta gavorite po russki, at least some.....
this is the "barrier to entry" for y'all on VK

so best thing y’all can do to bump up your odds
is REALLY simple
learn how to speak some damned Russian
horrosho, ain’t like it’s hard or nuthin......

then...
you want to make a killer web site about yourself....
but yet it’s NOT about you
can be about any subject, but the more popular the better
and make it in Russian language and English

and don’t YOU look GOOD in all the photos!
oh they are gonna love you malchick, eta pravda!
and you start promoting this Russian web site on VK

do this for a year and you will have THOUSANDS of Russian speaking female contacts!
with their pics and contact info and some general idea about what kinda person they are
you will spend so much of your time sexting on VK that you will get NOTHING done EVER again
you're overflowing with hundreds of pics
and if you saw even one of those pics...OMG!!!!

and ya know what?
this is the rolodex you scroll through when you decide to make your first trip "over there"

y'see how freakin EZ it is for the smart guys
and trust me, smart guys will have a LOT of fun over there, like OMG!!!

you guys decide what kinda guy you wanna be
smart or not
and act accordingly

smart bros have many options depending on age and income

young
go to Ternopil State Medical School, classes taught in English
if you take tests, your Medical degree will count in the USA
if I were a young dewd, I would totally do this
live in an apartment, just off campus
OMG, OMG... and you could hit on this ALL THE TIME!
it would be unreal how easy it would be for you to meet girls at school and invite them over to your apartment....
they’d be MAD AS HELL if you didn’t invite them over, because they would be super curious about you (and you can feed into this).

then, once you acquire friends,  you get plugged into different social networks
and then it gets exponentially crazy with the amount of women you know
hundreds...
literally hundreds
and at least 10% will have a mad crazy crush on you
and with almost no effort on your part (because of their own eagerness)
first time you brought them to your apartment
their clothes will “poof”
just come right off
and there she is
sitting on the couch
this way

and your brain just starts racing...

older dewds with $$$

easy start a business in Ukraine!!!!
do it in one of the poorer, large cities
like Dnepr
hire an administrative assistant
$1000 month + clothing allowance + travel allowance....

your first meeting, you go over your business details with her
great if you know power point and can make simple presentations
and you explain how important her appearance is, and you tell her
a clothing allowance is part of the deal and you take her shopping
and over time, you just start breaking down the barriers one by one

bottom line, the first time I paid my first admin, she broke down and cried, because she never held that much money in her life...
you have a LOT of power over these women when you pay them, an unbelievable amount of power actually
especially, after you've paid them the first time, and they get the "money rush"
after that, they more or less will do whatever you want...
IMHO, the process works better if you take it slowly and not all at once
so, eating together constantly, helping her try on clothes at store...
when she's at your apartment, take your shirt off and put on another shirt in front of her
and every day move the needle a little more
in 3-4 weeks she will do EXACTLY what you want her to do
this is how you break them in
at least, it's what I've done...
I do know a few Ukrainian oligarchs
one is a bank President in Kyiv who screws EVERYTHING in his office
or they don't work there any more
another is part owner of steel mill, who keeps his family in one town
and his mistress in another
his mistress is YOUNGER than his daughter
I am a bloody novice in comparison to wealthy Ukrainian men

judge me however y'all want
I don't care - there ain't NO hell, and there sure is hell ain't NO heaven
so why should I care how "good people" judge me
no, it ain't about me,
i'm just tellin it like it is
straight from the hood
word!

In essence, what you’re trying to do is pay her for sex, but not directly
because if you paid her directly she’d be a “prostitutka"
BUT...
if you pay her substantially in cash AND gifts INDIRECTLY
then she’s just being SMART when she has sex with you....

boys her own age are totally boring and unappreciative in the sack....
and many young Ukrainian women don’t like guys their own age
and prefer older men, because younger men literally give them NOTHING in sex (least of all an orgasm, but I won't go there!)
and for these women, it’s all about getting SOMETHING from sex....

believe it or not, these women will WANT to sleep with someone who doesn't have to be young or even handsome
as long as they're happy with what they get from it...

what I think is really COOL is this idea:

so what if you were able to setup a REAL business in Ukraine and not only employ admins
but, wait for it.....
ALSO MAKE MONEY!!!!!
AT THE SAME TIME!!!
SWEET!!!

that's for the smart Bros to contemplate

Great idea Krim! and Boethius would have to agree that there is no exploitation here as it is 'Employment' and in Boe' world there is no exploitation in 'Employment' ;D

Might I suggest though $1000 a month would be overkill, need to keep them hungry and coming back for more.

An office setup is ok, but need to set up something that brings in money but not too demanding.

Another idea might be a small bar, relaxed atmosphere and pace of work.

Either way I guess hire a girl upfront to aid with of setting it all up.

well...

important points:

Entry Level Player

LEARN RUSSIAN!!!!!
Create a “honey pot” web site in Russian/English - have your pics professionally produced, accentuating your look
LEARN HOW TO promote your web site on VK/Viber even SnapChat
and in a year, you should have at a bare minimum 1,000 Russian women contacts, and be sexting at least 10...  then decide which ones to visit!!!

my daughter has thousands of contacts on Instagram, she went on a canal ride last year in Amsterdam with a guy she knew on Instagram
she group chats in Russian with her crew of college girls in Moscow every day, they're an integral part of her life,

even a puffing old geezer such as myself has a VK linked web site that gets over 2,000 hits/day from the FSU
and I'm a regular in several Russian chat groups on VK where I enjoy super star status from moy mnogo druzya

so you see...
it's REALLY EASY
once you know how
and can gavorit po russki!!!

Mid Level Player

start a business in Ukraine
hire an “admin” - bi-lingual, fresh out of college, little or no job experience, but just stunning...
don’t “sexualize” the relationship until after the first pay check and they feel the money rush
and slowly move the intimacy dial until it’s all the way on maximum
she will offer ZERO resistance
because she's afraid to, afraid the money train will come to a stop...
so long as you’re paying her enough above what the job dictates
that a smart girl would be foolish NOT to take such a great offer
then it's 100% GUARANTEED that a smart girl WILL take the offer!

when I tell you to "cut with the grain", this is what I'm talking about
Russian/Ukrainian women, know ALL ABOUT the situation of bosses and sex
their culture has programmed both genders with this model of behavior
you just use it to your advantage

the riddle is
she WANTS to get something from sex...but yet
NOT think of herself as a prostitute
this is the fig leaf you provide
and this way, she thinks of herself as being smart, and to her way of thinking "richer"

it has worked 100% EVERY TIME!!!
and guys who've never embraced or kissed such incredible sweetness
have no idea what they're missing...

Pro Player

By now y’all shoulda figured out that the girls who marry foreigners are pursuing the same strategy!!

these girls want something for sex as well, like a new passport!!
but dewds, if all you’re looking for is SEX and not making babies
then you’d be a stone cold idiot to marry a Russian woman, just because you want to sleep with her!

besides being her boss
numerous other paths exist for you to explore

simplest, is just hiring an escort!!!
duh!

every big city in Ukraine and Russia has escorts and clubs
Once you connect to it
the best thing to do, is go for the youngest girl in whatever your preferred style
this’ll generally mean 18-19
just go through her agency and pay them for 4 hours outcall with her

if you click with her
offer her $300/day + travel and shopping
her ONLY issue will be her schedule and for how long
but work that out, and for maybe $5,000 you'd get a week of about 75% of the girl friend experience with the sweetest, cutest 19 yr old girl that you could ever imagine
and then when you run out of money, you can say “paka” and go home!!
it would be a week in paradise, a week that you would NEVER be able to forget...

I freaked out when my then 15 year old had a similar number - showing shots of her cleavage and parts were her bikini bottom doesn't touch her tummy - in a head to toes shot .. 'helped', enormously .. :cluebat:

it’s the “new” normal

in the USA, my daughter gets HUGE attention...
she’s an 18 yr old, 5‘10“ blond hair blue eyes very athletic build  mixed Russian/American
but in Russia, she gets even MORE attention, because there are so FEW western women, and even though she speaks native Russian, they still consider her American
over there, it’s like a comedy satire, whenever she walks down an office hallway, all the heads swivel as she passes by

years ago, I was really defensive on this subject, but then, in a moment of inspiration, I put her in “sales and marketing” in one of my co's and it’s all good now...

My dad had a saying, "If he had a brain he would be dangerous." BTW I like Trump.

Title: Differences in Dating Profiles
Post by: Grumpy on September 07, 2019, 07:10:19 PM
Both males and females use conspicuous consumption in their profiles. Males signal that they have access to resources, while females signal that they belong to a group. To understand this interesting difference, it is important to highlight the possible benefits people get when displaying luxury goods.

When someone displays luxury goods in a conspicuous manner, they are demonstrating access to resources. This is an honest signal to the fact that they have money. Someone who doesn’t have this access to resources would not be able to copy this signal.

This wealth bestows a certain level of status, which suggests achievement. As such, people use conspicuous consumption to demonstrate their achievement.

Second, displaying luxury goods portrays membership in certain groups. It signals an affiliation with a class of people who can afford to spend money on potentially frivolous goods.

I noticed long ago that the background in a photo was often more important than the subject. A lot of vacation photos indicates a traveler. If the photo was taken in a home, was it neat and tidy or a mess? Were the furnishings upscale or more average? If outside a home, did the neighborhood appear working class or more affluent?
It has been said "a picture tells a thousand words." A good observer should be able to tell something about a person's lifestyle and probable expectations from their photos. (DOES NOT APPLY TO AGENCY PICTURES)
What do your pictures say about you?

My beloved had profile pictures lying on a park bench without shoes, posing (in the distance) in a bikini on a beach and camping in the mountains..

Did this mean she was an outdoorsy type of person?)

I had a pic in a DJ (tux) in my garden, selling hot balloon trips at a country show and racing in my little Laser sailing dinghy..

Sporty, outdoorsy?

Title: FTC pursuing Match Group
Post by: Grumpy on September 26, 2019, 12:21:06 PM
In this case, the FTC says that the site allowed obvious scam accounts that had been banned from contacting paid customers to message people with free accounts. The free users were not told who was contacting them, nor see the content of the love note, nor that the sender had been flagged as a scammers.

Rather, the users were told they would need to upgrade to a paid account in order to see that sexy memo, and only then, after coughing up cash, were they notified that they were being courted by a bogus profile. In other words, the FTC says that not only did Match allow scammers to operate on its site, but it also used them to make money.

"We believe that Match.com conned people into paying for subscriptions via messages the company knew were from scammers,” said FTC consumer protection bureau director Andrew Smith.

“Online dating services obviously shouldn’t be using romance scammers as a way to fatten their bottom line."

The FTC complaint accuses Match of violating the FTC Act provisions on misrepresentation, exposing consumers to fraud, deceptive guarantees, and unfair denial of account access, as well as violating the 'Restore Online Shoppers Confidence Act of 2010' by failing to provide a simple way to unsubscribe from the premium service.

I can think of a few more sites they can go after next for the same scam.
As usual the Register's comments will make you grin.

More mergers....
NuCom makes bid on Meet Group.
Based in New Hope, Pennsylvania, Meet Group is a maker of internet-based apps that enable live-streaming broadcasts and text-based conversations, including MeetMe, LOVOO, Skout, Tagged and Growlr.

Meet Group has struggled to challenge the dominant U.S. dating app developer, Match Group Inc (MTCH.O). It is focusing on expanding its live-streaming platforms, modeled after the video products offered by Asian dating app providers.
Nucom owns Parship, ElitePartners, and eHarmony.

In September 2020, Match Group hired Tracey Breeden, a former police officer and head of Women’s Safety and Gender-Based Violence Operations at Uber, to develop safety features for its dating apps. Led by Breeden’s team, Match Group invested in Garbo to roll out the product on Tinder later this year.

Garbo’s goal is to develop a two- to three-minute background check that flags information to dating app users without sharing home addresses, email addresses, or phone numbers. If a user chooses to run a background check on a match, the user would pay a yet-to-be-determined fee.

Another reason to be wary of background checks: outdated or erroneous information is often included in public records and court documents. A 2005 study by private screening company Intellisense Corp reported a 41% error rate in national databases.

The National Consumer Law Center found that with the adoption of technology such as algorithms and data scanning in background checks have given rise to a new set of problems including “false positives” and unverified information from third-party vendors.

Sly way to get a few dollars per profile from the subscribers, reminds me of the pay per address of many years ago.

Men are faced with the really big task of sorting through thousands of profiles to find appropriate females, and then contacting them.

So it's only fair that women also have to sort through dozens/hundreds/thousands of contacts that come to them.

The big difference is woman don't have to go to all the trouble of making first contacts.  You can just sit back and sort through the contacts that come to you.  Great to be a woman !!!

Plenty of online venues exist with real people behind the sometimes fake names.  Social sites are full of them, and profiles there are pretty difficult to fake.  Have a common interest with one of them? Send them a message, or friend request.

IMO you are better off not looking for a partner, and simply find groups of folks that have the same interests as you do.  Hobby, business, sports, whatever.  People of interest will pop up here and there.  Start courting them and see where things lead, maybe a trip or three.  Spend some time building up your own social profile so that women can check you out as well.

The demise of the MOB bizness came about with the rise of social sites.  FSUW dating sites were pretty much the only way to get in touch  back then (20 years or so ago).  Folks without profiles contacted others with profiles, likely giving them a little initial hedge. Today the playing field is quite level, with both checking out each other's profiles and deciding from there whether to reciprocate, or not.

I never used online dating, so the above is only my interpretation of how things are.  YMMV.

p.s. ellamei, I originally posted without noting your gender, so neutered my response :)

Every semi-intelligent person should have multiple email addresses.

Never use your 'best' ones for any correspondence with businesses or unknown persons.

I have more than 10 email addresses.  One for only close family; one for more distant family; one for business associates in USA; one for business associates outside USA; one for banking, credit cards, medical, etc.; one for ordering items online; 3-4 that I used when pursuing FSU women, etc., etc.

The online dating industry is enormous, with reported revenues of around $2.6 billion last year. Bumble, Grindr and Match Group—the conglomerate that owns Hinge and Tinder—are worth a combined $13 billion. But the platforms have long been criticized for the abuse, harassment, and offline violence that their users can face. To try to improve safety, these platforms employ, typically via outsourcing companies, a global workforce of moderators like Ana, who, along with other sources interviewed for this story, spoke under a pseudonym so she could speak freely about her experiences.

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ) interviewed more than 40 current and former workers based in Honduras, Mexico, Brazil, India, the Philippines, the US, and the UK who worked on behalf of Grindr, Bumble, and Match Group. Conditions across the groups varied, but the trends were stark. Workers spoke of mental health issues, including symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD that they associated with their jobs, but said there was a shortage of support. Some raised concern about understaffing and punishing productivity targets, which they say undermines the quality of their work and, in turn, means people using the apps are less safe, with abuse reports going unaddressed for long periods.

More than one in 10 single people under 50 say they are having less sex because the US supreme court overturned Roe v Wade, according to a new study.

On Wednesday, Match Group, which operates Tinder, Hinge and a slew of other matchmaking platforms, released the latest findings from its long-running Singles in America survey, a snapshot of more than 5,000 single Americans’ thoughts and experiences around dating and sex. For the second year in a row, Match has found that the demolition of the national right to abortion is affecting how Americans say they date and have sex with one another.

I had the big V many years ago, so that provided me and partners with a benefit.

However, in all my sexual encounters in FSU I always used condom for STD concerns.

A small number of FSU women voiced big displeasure at my use of condom; sort of surprising to me.
