Thanks,,,

I need to get tickets, But the price keeps dropping...

I think I will fly out of Montreal... The flights are shorter... 2hr drive 12 flight....

It is also closer than Albany, NY - 4hr drive + 16-18 plane.. = to long....

I was just gonna have my parents WU me money once I get in Ukraine... Waite can I even do that?
Or I might just use Bitcoins...  Transfer them to cash once in Kiev...  This I can do...

Good tip on Paris... and the extra clothes...

my choices of layovers seem to be France, Netherlands, Germany or Switzerland...  I would think the Germans would be the most English friendly...

Yes window seat It is than...

Heh, I guess someone missed the wink emoticon on my previous query to Darth. Oh well.  ;)

Anyway, I asked him because depending of his location I would advise him which airport would be the best and which airlines he should consider.

Now I see that if you are considering Montreal, and by the time distance to Albany already mentioned, you must be somewhere in Clinton or Franklin county. If so, definitely go thru Montreal. Albany will charge you for your first born. Fcuking provincial town.

Problem would be for you to bring a your babe thru Montreal. You'll have no choice to go through NYC area or Boston.

Edit: Ooops, I just saw my query was on another thread. Never mind about the first comment.  ;D

The signs here are being changed and have latin alphabet....I think metro is finally changed. In the city center area most people speak English...it is not that hard to get around in Kyiv....

Even though Darth may be going only to Kyiv, other people reading this thread may not.  Not all of those signs in every city and town will be changed.  And whoever you are going to visit, no matter how well they speak English, it is NOT their first language, so they will usually appreciate any effort you make to learn even a tiny part of their language.

Very true.....
I think you are reading something into my post. I mentioned Kyiv, Not Ukraine or some village of.

Granted you should learn some local language.... My thought and experience is use it correctly. Also that is what you have a GF or Wife for. The whole time I have been here I have never heard the greeting Hi, or Hello..Except when someone is here from the USA, Alaska to be specific :) First off we are Idiots in the eyes of the locals and not using language correctly makes you a bigger idiot.

For me, I found learning to count helped the most....Beside the few polite words, thank you, you're welcome, excuse me and how much.  Then the biggest one ....BEER! Oh I might be very useful to learn how to stop the bus....Next stop please

And if you are in western Ukraine you will blow the panties off your woman by using Tak instead of Da.

Definitely.  But the most useful one of all (especially if you have been concentrating on BEER :-[) is:

Last minute Thoughts on Buying Plane tickets for the Un-Experienced traveler..

Aisle or window?

How to make my way around terminals...  " They got apps for that "

Things like that...

Any thoughts are helpful...

There is a lot of good advice already. I have to have an isle seat my legs
won't fit into any of the other seats then the flight attendants ram the cart
into my knees at least 3 or 4 times per flight.

Drink lots of water, I get very dehydrated on flights and I power drink water
every chance I get. I would recommend bringing a couple coffee table type
picture books of the various scenic places in your area. I looked on Amazon
and didn't see much but if you walk into your local Barnes and Noble you will
find plenty and she will be very interested in them.

You can send maple syrup. I have sent a few times to Ukraine. But just get some bubble wrap and put in your checked bag. Should survive fine. I don't remember ever seeing anything similar to maple syrup in the stores in Ukraine.

Good Luck,

My sole contribution to the world was the invention of peanut butter and maple
syrup sandwiches when I was just a lad. Three common things in the USA are
rare in the FSU. Peanut butter, maple syrup and marshmallows.

So I bring each of them to the FSU. I make the peanut butter and maple syrup
open face sandwiches and then I put the marshmallows into hot cocoa. I usually
don't serve both at the same time.

I just returned from a camping trip with four lovely FSUW. After several bottles of vino and a few Modelo Negro's I introduced them to smores. Pictures were posted on vk of the event and soon after there were hundreds of jealous women wanting to know more.

I still haven't introduced the girls to smores yet. Maybe next weekend.

The profile can be deleted immediately but the agency knows that if they stretch it out, then maybe the woman can forget and the agency can go on using the account, faking to be her.  A woman I knew asked to have her profile deleted.  When they told her it would take awhile to get it done, she created a profile of a man and went online to talk to herself.  When the agency faked that they were her she told the agency employee using her account that she would disclose everything that they did to the parent company unless the profile was deleted.  It was amazing how fast they got that profile off the internet.

Darth,

Pack in your bags. There is no guarantee that if you mail it it will arrive in time. You may want to wait and purchase the liquor at the Duty Free at the Montreal Airport...

Sorry, I don't have much experience. I always try to go native and drink
the local hooch. Some Georgian wine is pretty good, they have excellent
local beer and vodka. If I wanted to bring in something specific, I would
buy it at the duty free shop at the airport and carry it in their specific bag.
I would worry about a bottle of good scotch going missing from my checked
bag as I would for anything by mail.

Duty free booze can be fraught with hassle if you have connections after the purchase. Buy it at home and pack it in your checked bags.

Darth,

When in Cherkasy you might want to check out the night club "Ultra".  Had a blast there several times.  You also buy liquor by the bottle and pay for the mixers and snacks separate.

The Vacation is on the outskirts of Kiev....
We might go to her home town on the second week...

We will see how the political situation is in that area...  At that time.. .

Didn't know Cherkasy and Kirovohrad were on outskirts of Kiev??

I doubt there was ANY political unrest in Kirovohrad.

Better partying would be in the bigger cities ie. Kiev

Kiwi, I did notice a big increase in signs with English words under the Ukrainian/Russian words. The metro is certainly easier to read the metro stops. Not sure about Khakiv but Odesa does have more English words in signs. Much of this came about because of the Euro games in Ukraine.
