Smart dog's? You decide

During my first few trips to Moscow and St. Petersburg I was pleasantly, and somewhat surprised, to see most stray dogs who were going to cross the street to do so via the underground passages, as the people were doing, and not darting across major streets, as do most our American dogs. Over the years I observed many times when FSU dogs would not cross busy intersections unless people walked in front of them. I told this to a few people and you could see them just rolling their eyes,...sure!
 
This past spring (2004) while in Kharkov and renting a large bus at the Kharkov bus station, I observed two dogs who were caddy-corner from the intersection I was standing. I saw the two little dogs walk up to the curb and looking as if they were wanting to cross the street. Being the dog lover I am was immediately concerned they would never get across this busy intersection alive.
 
The two just stood their a minute and then the smaller one put his two hind legs down and just sat. The other dog went over to some bush's about 15 feet away. After some 3-4 minutes a man finally walked up to the curb and the little dog jumped to all four feet. As the man started to cross the street the little dog walked behind him. The second dog looked up in time to see what was going on and ran after his little buddy catching him as they got to an island in the middle of the street. As the man stopped and waited on traffic, the two dogs stopped behind this man. As the man began to cross the last of the busy intersection, the two little dogs walked behind him until the man reached the halfway point and they quickly ran by him and on his merry way.

This is a great story I am also a dog lover and watched many dogs in the cities of Russia that i visited and found much of the same going on.
