Title: Tribute to RWD Married Members
Post by: Admin on February 24, 2008, 07:59:20 PM
Greetings everyone!

I wanted to take a moment to make a tribute to our Married members - with special mention of those who were married after joining RWD.

Marriage, as a milestone in our journeys, is a significant point in each of our lives and deserves special recognition. I have spent some time reviewing the posts and came up with the following list of married members. I am certain to have missed many, and I invite your assistance in identifying additional married members I may have missed. Also, as new members are added, please add your name to the list by posting a follow-up and letting us know about you, your marriage, your family, and your journey.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Married RWD Members:

RWD Members Married Since Joining RWD:

To ALL of you - RWD wishes to commemorate your milestone, and wish you very the best as you go forward in your life journey with your loved one(s).

Well thank you kindly, Dan but you are in error regarding me and Nina.  Although we have known each other for 7 years and have been living together in Russia for the past 6 years, we are not now, nor have we ever  been, and it is highly unlikely that we ever will be, married.

Sounds like this qualifies for a RWD common law marriage - good enuf for me.

Thanks Dan.
Seems like the married guys are definately the minority group here considering over 3k members. Because of this site we have been able to meet and correspond with some extremely high quality people and hope to meet more in the future.
  Phil,
BC is right. If you were here in Tn., all I could say is Pozna. Nina already owns half of your possessions.  :'(

Dan,

I wonder how many RWD members are in the final stages of marriage? Have filed a K-1, or better yet have their lady here but have not tied the knot. Would be interesting to know how many congratulations we might be sending out in 2008.

Oops!

Well, I tried to cover my a$$ by mentioning that I probably made some mistakes in the list. Sorry about that Phil. If you like, I will remove it.

And for anyone else - PLEASE do not be offended if I managed to miss your name in the list. I really and truly meant this to be a positive tribute to ALL our members who are married - and a few that are essentially so  ;)

I would appreciate any and all assistance in identifying any other members - particularly those who are active members - who are married and I missed. Please post a message to let me know and I will add them ASAP.

Thanks!

- Dan

Cheers Dan...  It's interesting to look back through the list and recall all of the good advice I received during my search from the married guys.

Of course I also remember times like these too:     The RWD family is family after all!

Not a problem Dan... It's just like being married anyway.. and  any true Russian gal will tell you that marriage really isn't much more than a stamp in a passport!

Well, I've been trying to prove the existence and my possession of this elusive emptiness to the IRS for years. However, if it does indeed exist, they have determined that I would then own it and must pay taxes on it. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to actually give it a taxable value as well! The never ending saga.

Congrats all you Married and Cohabitation experts, and thanks for your input.

Dan,

Thanks for the congrats. I haven't logged in for a while so I wouldn't have known about your congrats except
for the email you sent to the members. Oksana and I are coming up on 4 years of marriage (July anniversary).
My wife is such a wonderful lady and I have been blessed with her. I never forget that she gave up her life
in Russia, trusted me, and came to America. I try to be the best husband I can be to her.

Thanks Dan, for the congrats.
Havn't been on the board for some time & just came across this.
Comin' up on 5 years with the past year living in separate countries. Welll...9.5 months at this point. As slow as immigration is moving it will be a year before we see each other again. Kicker is we may end up spending our 5th. anniversary apart & that doesn't impress me much.
However, as always, we will survive & grow.
By the way, I believe we were married after I joined the old board. Not positive but it does seem so, I could be wrong however.
Thanks again.

Thanks Dan,

I haven't logged in for a while and it was nice to see this. We are now past our 4th year of marriage. I admit, I got lucky and found a good lady. Perhaps that's why I proposed during the 1st week (I'm the OneWeekWonder).

I also hadn't visited here in a while and it was nice to open and read this thread!

After four years of a very long distance relationship DM got a stamp in his passport in April of this year. (No place for a stamp in mine, hence I am the Keeper of the Marriage Certificate.) We bought an apartment in DM's hometown in August, which he is busy renovating.

My thanks to the ladies and gentlemen here who've offered many helpful insights about international coupledom, and congratulations to all of us!

Great thread, Dan!  I guess I can now be included in the list as well.  I have been married for over 3 years now and am very happy.  My husband and I dated for about 2 years before getting engaged, so we pretty much knew what we were getting into.  ;)

Good luck to all those who don't yet have one

This message mainly for Phil dAmore. I'm new to this forum. Have been married to my lovely wife Elena for six years. Have a wonderful 5 year old daughter.

For the future, our intention is to live in Russia part-time (during the summer months). We recently purchased property. My question is how have you been surviving in Russia? If you don't mind, I'd like to know your experiences of adjustment,  what part of Russia do you live in. My wife's from Stavropol.

Take care.

Just adding my name here.   Will be 5 years this coming February.

My oldest step-daughter was married last year.  ( still living in Almaty ) and just had a baby boy 3 weeks ago . So my wife is now a Grandma, though she doesn't know yet how to feel about it.  I guess by default I am now a Grandpa. Don't know yet how I feel about it either.   Feels a bit wierd .

The other 2 step-daughters are doing great  and will be 16 and 18 this winter .

                 Life is good.

Married to Alla for 14 months, some years after joining RWD.

The problem with marriage to a dream (and especially in the growing season), is that there is less time and inclination to hang out on boards.

Looks like I have to update my profile.  Did join in 2006 before getting married, and was a whirlwind 6 months with 3 trips, the last Thanksgiving week 2006 where we got married in Kharkiv, passport stamped and all.  So approaching 3 years with many many more to go for Olga and I.

Thanks for the thread and for everything people have written here over the years.

I've been away from this forum for a long time. I see that my handle wasn't included among the married folk. For the record, I've been married to the same lady, originally from Ukraine but now a citizen of the USA, for the past nine years.  And to answer another survey question, I'm eight years older than she, though she looks younger :-) Being married to someone from another culture does have its challenges, we still have language issues, but that's all part of the total marriage package.  The bottom line is that I'm glad I married the lady I did, but I wish we had met sooner.

Congratulations Air Dog. I for one would love to read how you met your wife and how you both overcame the usual challenges those of us in international relations face.

Thanks. In answer to your first question, my wife and I met in the usual way.The big major difference being that at th time I was in the military, stationed in Italy. We married in Kiev and spent the first two years of our marriage in Italy. Getting her to Itay, and then immigrated to the USA, was a major challenge. We had to dea with officially four, in reality five, languages, to get everything accomplished.

As for advice for those guys who are newly married, or thinking of getting married, to a lady from the FSU, remember that patience is paramount! Your lady is coming to a land that will seem very strange to her. She probably doesn't have any family or friends nearby. You are her support system. Learn at least some basic phrases in her native language. Expect her to get depressed. Become her best friend, but encourage her to make new friends. Try to to find similar couples and socialize with them. If she doesn't know how to drive a car teach her. Encourage her to take classes at your local community college.  Give her some personal space. And buy her flowers for no apparent reason. That's a mistake I keep making  :cluebat:

Just came accross to this list and I see my name is not on..... despite been married since June 2008 to my wife Hanna! :)

I think the list is incomplete...... because Dan forgot to add his name on the List!  :D

I also think the list is not accurate and doesn't give the correct picture as, now, some of the couples mentioned have been separated or divorced.  :(

I think 2010 would be a great time to update our/your gallery here. There are men and girls on there that havent been around in ages. I know there's a couple of pictures of a girl who left the poor guy who was once a member here for some German guy. I enjoy looking at the pictures from time to time and there is rarely nothing new. I cant say too much because I never sent my photos in but thats beside the point because I meant to but lack the knowledge to do so. I'll do better in 2010. Maybe I'm overstepping my bounds here and you can certainly tell the to piss off and it's your forum and you can do exactly like you want but it does see that the gallery needs to be updated. If someone hasnt posted or visited the site in a couple of years then their photos probably serve not much interest. Again I think this is the best site out there for gathering info and learning the ropes of this endeavor. You do a fantastic job of maintaining integrity and thinning the herd when need be. I certainly hope you dont take my suggestion the wrong way.

Well on a whim decided to check this site and ruadventures since I had a few minutes...I rarely check these forums anymore, let alone post.  Celebrated our fourth anniversary this past August, and the second birthday of our son a couple of months ago as well...life is pretty busy and unfortunately internet forums take a back seat to life in the real world.

It's a different post for another thread but I will have to post about the trials and tribulations of being married to a woman 20 years younger than me...and our marriage has lasted a lot longer than some of the naysayers on this and other forums predicted four years ago :) .

Congrats to everyone who is married!  May you all have long, prosperous and happy marriages!!!

Seems we are supposed to announce the news.
We married December 2014.
After 9 months of marriage, widow can get SS benefits.
I am now going to hide guns, etc.
Probably need a 'taster.'

Hi Everyone!  Just dropping in to say hello.  Got married back in March 2003 and we are happier than ever.  I know everyone tends to hear more about the failures than the successes so I figure I owe it to everyone to provide an update every so many years.  Anyway, if I was to ever (God Forbid) find myself single again, there is no doubt that I would go back to Russia to look for love.  My life has changed dramatically over the last 12 years but the best and most reliable part of it all has been my wife.  It sounds like I am being melodramatic but it's true.  I wish everyone good luck!

Later,

John

I volunteer for the taster portion but not for ML's good taste (or lack thereof)

I married Angel Eyes back in November 2014 but forgot all about this thread

My IDP (internally displaced person from Luhansk) fiancee and I finally surmounted all of the paperwork barriers (because of her involuntary displacement from her registration address in the east) and signed for our marriage certificate today. Marriage scheduled for 3 November in Lviv!

Congratulations cc3!

Did you have a big celebration afterwards?

Only a very pleasant family (my wife, stepdaughter, and I) celebratory dinner at what we consider Lviv's best restaurant, the Black Cat 'English Pub' (more a small gourmet restaurant, with both excellent food and service). My wife's roots are in east Donbas, so her circle of Lviv acquaintances consists mostly of 20 year younger university classmates at Ivan Franko U.

Hi Dan,

Great List but you forgot me.

Lilia and I are coming up on 4 years of marriage already and I'd fit into the category of after joining RWD.

Granted I haven't been online in a long time but thought I'd come back and see what's up this morning!
