Trippin to Wyoming
« Reply #950 on: May 15, 2016, 10:51:34 AM »
We arrive at our new home in Cheyenne Wyoming at about midnight.

I unload enough beds and equipment to keep Angel Eyes and Mini Me
set for the night and I sit in a chair drink a piva and try to wind down
from the hectic trip. I then jump into the shower, and then into bed
our temporary separation that started on Feb First is over*

I think to myself "how can Angel Eyes hair still smell so good and pass
out from exhaustion a second later.

* Note to those not following closely. Angel Eyes and I lived in North Dakota
with the price of oil dropping, the construction industry dropped off a cliff I
found a job in Northern Colorado. I moved up there on Feb 1st living in hotels
and AIRBNB rooms and Angel Eyes waited for me in North Dakota while I went
through training then found a house. The real estate market is super hot in the
area so I ended up settling for one in Cheyenne.

Bill, welcome to Cheyenne! My Ukrainian wife and I should be arriving there on or about Thursday, 19 May, for her first trip to the US to meet my family. Want to rendezvous for pivo and to let our spouses Slavicize with each other? PM me so I will know whether I should bring extra Lviv pivo in my baggage. I'm already importing some for my son in Cheyenne.

By all means stop on by. I am sure the girls will want to chat 107 mph in Russian.
I sent you my contact information via PM. I am still unloading boxes but Angel Eyes
will have them all gathered up and everything put away by tomorrow.

Lviv piva? sure I love piva.

Udachi!

So how far away is your new job from your new home?  Can you commute daily, or will it have to be weekly?

I don't have a typical commute as an outside sales rep with a large sales territory
covering parts of three states. I have customers that are a few miles from where I
live and others that are further away. I'm relatively well located to visit most of
my customers on a regular basis and I have an office in my home.

Yep!  Same here - one of our South Island snowfields has just had its first proper snowfall of the autumn.  Fingers crossed for a good season throughout the country (although there are only three proper skifields in the North Island, all on Mt Ruapehu).

We have some good skiing locations in Colorado and Wyoming. I haven't been skiing in
4 years. They don't have Mountains in North Dakota (or even hills).

I've read that there is a new $7.5m chairlift at Whakapapa that must be exciting.

The operating company had to wait for the renewal of their licence to run the skifield, which happened in December, before they could go ahead with this new Quad express lift.  They're aiming to replace an old T-bar lift next summer as well, ready for the 2017 season.

We had some guests over.

I was making potato salad (among other things) and asked Angel Eyes how long
I should boil the eggs. She told me ten minutes, which is the same time you would
boil them at sea level. I knew it wasn't the same at 6000 ft so I looked it up on the
internet and they suggested 15 minutes with a 3 minute cooling period. I actually
boiled them for 17 minutes then doused them in cold water. Taking off the shells
took 5 seconds or less.

We made smore's after the barbecue and a good time was had by all.

Hey, I used to boil eggs for 14 minutes but then I boiled the water at a higher temperature and they were done sooner.

I boiled the water at a higher temperature
How did you achieve that ::)?

Water always boils at the same temperature at a given atmospheric pressure, lower than 100°C at altitude as in 2tallbill's case and higher only if you go below sea level as in, say, the Qattara depression or the Dead Sea area.

Bill, you and Angel Eyes were a wonderful host and hostess! To invite us to a cookout dinner when you had only been in your Cheyenne home about one week was a fantastic gesture. Nina and I both had a very enjoyable time! And...MiniMe is an amazing little guy!

We're looking forward to future Cheyenne encounters, especially in the near future, when we will have our Ukrainian daughter (my stepdaughter) with us!

Stubborn
« Reply #968 on: May 28, 2016, 05:21:13 PM »
Angel Eyes has some theories on child raising that disagree with mine.

For example, I will scoot a chair up to the counter and let Mini-me stand
on it and help. He is 14 months old, so you can imagine how much help he
is. Angel Eyes acts as if we were cleaning autoparts in gasoline, and I let the
boy smoke a stogie. Just because none of 2tall's previous kids, nieces and
nephews 100% of which helped me in the kitchen were never dismembered,
maimed, disfigured or killed is irrelevant.

Since I am just as stubborn as Angel Eyes when I cook he gets to help while
Angel Eyes scurries around looking for various OSHA infractions. When she
cooks, he doesn't get to help.

Congratulations on successfully standing up to a RW.  You're lucky that you managed to snag one of the good-natured ones instead of the other sort. But as I recall you had some experience spotting and shedding the other sort, so maybe this was part luck and part skill.

Angel Eyes is definitely very good-natured (and stubborn) I was lucky to have found
her but skilled enough to see what I found and pursued her exclusively.

The first time I called her my stubborn Russian girl, she feigned some anger (and some
was real) tried to punch my kidney with her little bony fist. I said "you are stubborn",
and she said "I thought you said stupid Russian girl" so I said, "not stupid, but stubborn"
and she said "what is stubborn?" to which I replied "upryamaya devushka" and she said
Ya konechno" (certainly I am) as if it was an excellent character trait.

Angel Eyes is the manager of the household and I don't micromanage her activities
and only occasionally does she try to micromanage mine.  ;D
