"Foreigners may naturalize as Ukrainian citizens after living in the country for a continuous period of at least five years. Applicants must have been issued an immigration permit and must demonstrate proficiency in the Ukrainian language."

that's the old law, it will be supplanted by the new law, that Zelensky will sign next week

i've had residency in Ukraine before
if my wife decides to return to Ukraine, super easy for me to seek residency
I have 2 ukrainian grandparents, and one ukrainian wife, kids went to school in Ukraine
we would not be full time residents, more like a summer home, to be used as a travel base

think of the benefits if Western Ukraine switched it's rail system from the old Soviet guage to the common european guage
western Ukraine to Vienna in 90 minutes!!!!
dear where would you like to go to dinner tonight, Vienna or Budapest?

blast from the past (literally)

no, unlike Russia, Ukraine is OFFICIALLY a multi-lingual society
it's in their constitution
and WOW! English is NOW one of the officially recognized languages of Ukraine
in theory, it means I can take a written driving test in English

how did WWI end?
from exhaustion!

when Russia is exhausted, then the WMDs come out
like Novichok did in Syria
then what happens?

Many sources around but Wikipedia states it here:

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_nationality_law#:~:text=Foreigners

"Foreigners may naturalize as Ukrainian citizens after living in the country for a continuous period of at least five years. Applicants must have been issued an immigration permit and must demonstrate proficiency in the Ukrainian language."

My guess is that Russia will use WMD's just on the front line Ukrainian military, but I fear being Russia they might use WMD's on Civilians in the cities also.

Hopefully their economy will suddenly start cracking up before then and other internal matters in Russia will overtake them using WMD's.

The way this is going even if Russia did take Ukraine I think Ukraine would be so stripped of population with Ukrainians piling into the EU and the economy and cities so bad in Ukraine that Russia might gain more of a economic dead weight than anything rather than any economic gain from taking Ukrainian territory.

it looks like next week, dual citizenship will be fully legalized in Ukraine
previously, my wife would've had to renounce her American citizenship, if she regained her Ukrainian citizenship
the WAR changed all that

with that bit of news
my wife has requested that I handle the paperwork for "reestablishing her Ukrainian citizenship"

my first stop will be the Embassy of Ukraine in Washing Tundy Sea
although I may just hand it over to a Ukrainian "advocat"
I'll make that decision in a few weeks

my wife ONLY would want to return to Ukraine, even to visit, when the war is over
if this happens...
we'd like to buy property south of Uzhhorod
and be as close as possible to Hungary (I can speak a little Hungarian)

a strong possibility that in a future Russian/Ukrainian war
this area would go to Hungary and not Russia, and be known as Magyr Ruthenia
Ukrainian citizens would become Hungarian and hence EU citizens
and we could live in Amsterdam without learning Dutch

SWEET, i'd be the happiest person who over lived
every time I tried to learn Dutch, I'd get it mixed up with German
no way could we pass the Dutch citizenship test, doesn't count even if you buy a golden visa, ya still gotta learn Dutch

what a freakin paradise Amsterdam is
even without Hungarian/EU citizenship, having a "travel base" so near to Europe, means we could spend much more time there
without even getting on a plane
I love European train travel, although the first time I rode on a bullet train, it scared me a little, cuz of how damned fast we were going

Good news, it will make relationships between WM and Ukrainian women a bit easier I think as it will other family members. How about your daughters Krim is Ukrainian citizenship something they seek/have? I think it will give more potential for opportunities.

As a WM one of the things I noticed for WM interested in Ukrainian citizenship was the requirement for those seeking citizenship to have gained proficiency in the Ukrainian language lol. I assume that knowing the Russian language is no longer desired or a suitable substitute as far as fulfilling the language requirement for Ukrainian citizenship. For many WM the last thing they probably want is Ukrainian citizenship at the moment as it can potentially mean them being drafted into the Ukrainian Army and sent to the front even if a dual citizen. Being a temporary/permanent resident is probably a lot better option.

I don't know if this requirement to show proficiency in the Ukrainian language would be needed for your wife if she is seeking to regain/re-establish her Ukrainian Citizenship Krim?

I think in general this move will make Ukraine seem more open and friendlier to the West. Immediately though because of the war I don't think it will have people rushing in though.

Uzhhorod is very near the Hungary border and hasn't really been hit like other Ukrainian cities by Russian air strikes from what I hear so I guess it's pretty popular at the moment for those wanting relative safety in Ukraine. Potentially that Hungary may be interested in that territory may be telling as to the reason why Russia has kept away from airstrike. I guess the risk of accidentally overshooting into EU terrority may be another reason also.

I don't know though, I think the scenario for the Ukraine war may not go the way you describe here Krim. Potentially if Russia go bankrupt and the remnants of its Army forced to leave Ukraine as a result they might be never coming back. It took Russia about twenty years to get over from the fall of the Soviet Union economically, if it goes bankrupt even if Russia doesn't break up it could take them a long while just to get their economy steady enough again, even that isn't assured as we move away from fossil fuels.

the "arsenal of democracy" now accepts all major european credit cards

this way, Trump can say to the media that "HE IS supplying weapons to Ukraine"
without HIM ACTUALLY supplying ANYTHING to Ukraine

after losing ALL US aid, Ukraine's existence is NOW 100% dependent on european financial support
while at the same time, europe is struggling with the economic impact of tariffs which impacts what it can provide to Ukraine

Trump keeps mentioning "DEFENSIVE WEAPONS"
which is highly reminiscent of Trump's first term and the "perfect phone call" with Zelensky
which eventually required Ukraine to store all "defensive weapons" like Javelins in locked bunkers, more than 100 miles from the "contact zone"

as the outrage over the Epstein conver-up is rapidly growing, especially within MAGA
this increases the likelihood that Trump will try to create a distraction to stop it from further growing

i'm gonna take a guess that Trump removing sanctions from banks tied to Putin
and US approval for Russia to build a Nuclear Power Reactor in Hungary
is why Pootin is now supporting a "non-enrichment" option for Iran's nuclear power

in reality, Iran doesn't need enrichment for weapons AT ALL
in can process nuclear waste from it's low enriched reactors and extract plutonium and make bombs this way
Iran doesn't need big multi-megaton bombs for Israel, there is no target that requires that
Nagasaki plutonium bombs are just the ticket, and they'd only need a small number of them to put an end to the thorn in their Islamic side

Apparently Zelensky says the US has now resumed weapons shipments:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crl04200dp4o

Apparently Ukraine will get Patriot Missile systems from the US through NATO with NATO reimbursing the US in the cost of the systems through NATO members fees.

I think Ukraine will be grateful to get them at this stage.

Hopefully the US will hit Russia with new sanctions.

I see the best way of ending this war still as letting the war run out it's course and Russia running out of money, it's economy collapsing and hopefully a breakup of Russia so it is never a threat again to anyone.

This strategy is working and coming about I believe so it's just a case of staying the course for another year or so. Most of the problems in the world, particularly the Middle East and Africa have been from Russia's presence in propping up Dictators who will then ally with it. Many it inherited from Soviet days but many of them have now fallen and Russia is increasingly left with few allies in the Middle East and Africa as it's global reach shortens to being tied up in Ukraine.

I am hoping that Israel will take out the Iranian regime by weakening it through missile strikes in a resumption of missile bombarded soon. Allowing your enemy to exist and come back at you when it gets stronger over time is a bad thing. Iran apparently is trying to buy fighter jets of China to challenge the Israeli air supremacy.

"How come Putin is letting Russia's military and economy be ground down by the war in Ukraine"

for the same reason Hitler did
At the end, Hitler ranted that the German people had not fought with enough heroism and they “deserved to perish”
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/news/world/hitler-ranted-germans-deserve-to-perishquot-wartime-diaries/article64121799.ece
this war is fundamentally about pootin's megalomania
all dick taters have this in common

Pootin believed/believes that by cutting off US Aid, which was about 60% of Ukraine's total aid, that he'd have the upper hand, especially while at the same time his allies are supplying him vast quantities of weapons

China is now Russia's primary resource buyer and not europe
the new law on non-citizens serving in the Russian military is about "volunteering"
if you're a foreigner who gets into trouble in Russia, you were always given this choice

instead of Shadow talking about prescriptions, he should talk about conscriptions
and whether or not his sons will be working in a nearby munitions factory while in high school before they become conscripts

update
Trump has NOT supplied a single thing to Ukraine
since he's been in office, the only aid that Ukraine has received from the USA was authorized by Biden
not even a slingshot was sent by Trump

now he's allowing Europe to purchase US weapons to provide to Ukraine
but still NOTHING from him

the senate is trying to pass a new russian sanctions package in August
and Trump has some kinda announcement regarding Russia to make on Monday

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/trump-says-he-will-make-an-important-statement-about-russia-on-monday-and-russia-says-the-us-is-acting-aimlessly/ar-AA1Ip8se?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=43b79ee667974fada19fbe763d2753ca&ei=141

Thinking over this article again:

http://www.euronews.com/2025/07/08/in-an-attempt-to-avoid-mobilisation-kremlin-now-allows-foreigners-to-serve-in-russian-army

What are the odds that this may be a way of pushing foreigners living in Russia like Shadow and his sons into the Russian Army. As in, 'you are now allowed to serve, so you will serve' lol, i.e the presumption will be made by Russia that you wish to serve no matter what else you say and the Act is now legally there to push you into the Russian Army and them say that you chose to do so.

How come Putin is letting Russia's military and economy be ground down by the war in Ukraine and hasn't used WMD's already?

Doesn't make sense to hold out in using them until no other choice.

My only guess would be that he fears a permanent blockade on all trade with Russia by the West as Russia needs trade particularly on oil & gas to survive long term it seems. I'm not so sure that being on the edge will change that but instead events might overtake Putler and the Russian Government, Oligarchy, etc moves to remove him as he becomes increasingly elderly and I firm. Once many at the top see his presence as no longer desirable and a block to an exit strategy from an unsuccessful invasion I think they will have many paths open to them to get him out the way and use him as the fall guy. No doubt there are many ambitious in Government to replace him as he gets past his sell by date.
