Yes!!!

Sorry to hear about your furlough.   Will you and T still consider starting a business?  Her plate will be full just adjusting to her new life, yet if she wants to be a business owner.....

My stepdaughter married a local man a couple of years after arriving.  He had just started a business, and she joined him immediately as an equal partner.   They did $5 million in revenue last year with an excellent profit margin.  The pandemic has hurt with business down 30% and profits more.

Operating a business and being a spouse in a new marriage is a huge challenge.  She loves it even though it consumes all of her time.

....Either we were very lucky, or the current lockdown caused the agencies to focus on processing paperwork electronically, or both.  Anyway, we getting closer to T arriving here permanently.  Fingers crossed, again.

That’s awesome news, Steve! Very happy for both you!! Now two dreams will soon be fulfilled. Getting her here and starting a business.

Congratulations and Good luck to both!!!

Thank you everyone.

T was here last year on a fiance visa.  She's mostly acclimated here and liked my small town (40 minutes west of Boston).  Even in winter.  Due to issues she had to return to Ukraine and we couldn't do an adjustment of status.

The business idea is from T.  She owned a few small grocery stores in Ukraine, in Donetsk.  The war and current conflict there caused her to loose all but one of the stores, which was the largest.  About a 1/4 of the size of a US chain grocery store like Stop N Shop or Publix.   She transferred that store to her parents when she moved out of Donetsk, but managed it remotely until last year when we did the fiance visa thing.

She is doing some research now and then while we wait for the spouse visa.

She's smart for doing her homework. She's also brave for wanting to open a store in a country she's not familiar with but it seems based off her past experience, she's worked hard to achieve much. Too bad instability in Ukraine has led her to lose most of her assets. She'll be a wonderful asset for you and America.

Hello all.

It's been a while since I was on RWD.  Just wanted to provide a quick update:

It took us a while to submit documents to the NVC because of delays with getting the police clearance certificate.  We finally got it and submitted everything in June.  On June 18 we were DQ'd (documentarily qualified).

The embassy in Kyiv is still closed, but they have started conducting spouse interviews this month.  We were hoping to get it scheduled soon, but no joy.

However, last week we received the interview scheduled email from the NVC.  T will be interviewing on Aug 28!

T also has to go to Donetsk to help her parents complete a deal on one of their stores - a large Russian chain offered to buy them out, and they accepted.  She has to help them close their store and sell off the equipment and other things.

The border is closed at the moment, but she thinks it will be partially open next month and she can travel there to close out the deal.

So, hopefully T will be here at the end of Sept. Early October at the latest. This has been the longest separation we have experienced.  It will be a little over 6 months if she gets here in Sept.  We have never been apart longer than 3 months.

Oh, and our company opened back up after Memorial Day, so I am back at work.  Business is slow, but we have some projects.

Thanks for the update.

I haven't seen wifey since Jan 27th, expecting to see her in a month...

All immigration rules have the added Public Health and Hygiene exception clause that I knew of but never dreamt would see implemented.

Good luck.

That's good news Steve!  Glad to see this covid thing isn't slowing you down that awful much.

Enjoy your life together.

Hello All,

It's been a while.  Just checking in to see what's what.

T is here.  She arrived in Nov, just before Thanksgiving.  It took a while because she was stuck in Donetsk helping her mom, who contracted Covid.  T got it as well.  They are both fine, but MIL was in the hospital for 10 days due to partial pneumonia.  T only had mild sympthoms and recovered within a week.

T passed her driver's license test a few weeks ago.  MA only recognizes a few countries for license transfer:  Canada, Mexico, Germany, France, Taiwan and South Korea.  As a result, T had to go through the entire licensing process (written exam, learner's permit, road test).  She has all her credentials now - greencard, SSN card, and driver's license with real ID.

It was interesting watching her prep for the DL.  She read through the entire MA RMV manual, looking up wordsshe didn't understand.  She had a pile of post-it notes with terminology translations.  Then she went though it a second time before taking the written exam.

We are now in the market for a GMC Yukon or Sierra.  I offerred to get her a mini cooper - she got insulted, wondering why in the world I would think she'd like such a small car (she's a Mr Bean fan).  I told her mini coopers in the US are about twice the size of the original minis, but she still passed.  She wants a big American car, and somehow settled on GMC.

She's been stuffing me with home cooking these past few months and is now starting to complain about by bulging gut.   She said it's time to start doing daily walks, but I've convinced her to go skiing until the weather warms up a bit.

Hope everyone enjoyed their holidays.  And enjoyed watching Tom Brady win another superbowl.

So I see you're still in Boston even though Tom Brady isn't? Have to admit it's warmer where he is now.

Thanks for posting nice update.
