Arrival at LAX Nov 2014
« on: November 23, 2014, 08:27:20 PM »
Finally, step-daughter gets to see America.   Wife and daughter arrived today at LAX for 6 month (or longer) stay on multi-entry tourist visa.

Photos caught as they were exiting customs.  Note 5 year old Lisa pushing her own cart.   ;D

Things are bound to change in this household.   Cats are already looking for new hiding places.

Nice pics Doug; thanks for sharing.

What about schooling for Lisa during this 6 months?
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Doug that's great! It makes me hope that my Larysa will be here in about a year or less with her two sons, ages 3 and 6.

How much excess baggage fees did the airline slug them for?

Plus the charge for wrapping the cases...

Seriously, Doug, congratulations on getting past the latest hurdle.  May they enjoy the USA as much as most of those who live there.

What about schooling for Lisa during this 6 months?

After a few days of adjustment, we will enroll her in pre-school.  I had already paid to reserve her a slot at the school a few months ago.

So far, it looks like she will need very little adjustment. First night she slept in her own bunkbeds, a good sign.  She calls me papa and is very loving.  If this is any indication of how things will go, it will be fantastic.

Too bad it took so long for them to get here.  The pool has cooled off and Lisa is crazy about swimming.

The excess baggage fees depend on the airline and origin of trip.  We paid $100 per extra bag.  Larissa bought 5 new suitcases for the trip.  I noticed while checking the airlines for excess baggage fees, they ranged from $80 to $200 per bag.

They took Delta (operated by KLM) from Kiev to Amsterdam to LAX.  I have used this route several times and like it best.  I also admire KLM for their service.   The tickets were about $1030 each round trip.  The cheapest I have ever got with a major airline and only one stop.

Emergency medical and trip insurance for both of them was $77 for 6 months and includes all the baggage insurance, etc.

Thanks, it took about two years going through the Ukraine courts with everything contested from divorce, custody, child support, etc.  Ex-husband had no interest in his daughter.  Was using the child as a weapon of revenge.  The courts saw through his arguments and ruled appropriately.

To find such a gem as my wife, I would do it all over again.  It took a  lot of patience and $$$, but worth every bit of it.

I woke up to blini and tea on the table, and borscht on the stove.    ;D

Congratulations Doug!

Welcome Larissa and Lisa!

Getting them here was a huge hurdle.   And now to the next hurdle, and the next,....at least from now on you will be together, and that is the important part.

You were wise to reserve her a spot at a pre-school.  How well does she understand English?

Actually, I only heated the pool once in the winter...for a Karaoke party I had.  $350.   Never again.
I installed all new pool equip when I remodeled and did not replace the heater.  Have plumbed it for solar, so will add solar when I have time.

Thanks for the congrats.

Doug, a buddy of mine got his wife a romantic set of snow tires for Christmas one year and a beautiful new vacuum  cleaner the next one.  :D

Yes they are still married but he had a few bruises for a bit afterwards.

He doesn't do this joking around with her much anymore!

There wasn't anything to clean.  The cleaning crew did not like my old tank type Electrolux vacuum.  I bought the same exact model they were using.  It is made special for picking up pet hair.  Was just a good time to buy a new vacuum.    LOL

The little one has to try out everything and this is what she was doing when I got back from the store.

It's been a great first day together.  I was worried that overprotective mama was going to shelter Lisa.  When I had to go to the store today, I told Larissa I was going to take Lisa with me.  She said NO, I said YES.   Lisa gave me a hug and we went shopping.  She enjoyed it very much and gave me a hug and said 'thank you' in English.   I gotta feeling we are going to integrate very nicely.  She is still chasing the cats all over the house.

Bought Larissa a new Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phone today.  Now, how to figure out how to get Russian for the display.  It's seems to be only available for the keyboard.  Good incentive to improve English quickly.

Borscht and a rice dish for dinner.

Tomorrow is a work day, so it's jacuzzi and then off to bed.
