The Ruble is rebounding

It is still a third-world economy. ;)
To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783

Nitwit Obama downplays Russia S-300 supply to Iran, ‘jaws drop’ in Israel
[note 2tallbill added Nitwit to Obama's name]

US President Barack Obama has admitted he was “surprised” that Moscow held back resumption of S-300 supplies to Iran for so long. Some Israeli officials are reportedly saying the prospect of derailing the Iran nuclear talks is now zero.

After President Vladimir Putin lifted the ban on S-300 supply to Iran last Monday, Obama made his first official comment on Friday. He downplayed the significance of the deal, which gives advanced air defense missiles systems to Israel’s archrival in the region.

“I’m frankly surprised that it [the ban on S-300 deliveries to Iran] held this long, given that they were not prohibited by [UN Security Council] sanctions from selling these defensive weapons,” Obama said on Friday at a news conference in the White House, after talks with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

Obama recalled that Moscow held off the deal for six years at America's request.

"This is actually a sale that was slated to happen in 2009, when I first met with then-Prime Minister [Vladimir] Putin. They actually stopped the sale, paused or suspended the sale, at our request," Obama said.

The $800-million contract signed between Moscow and Tehran in 2007 to supply five S-300 squadrons was put on hold in 2009, and terminated altogether after the UN imposed sanctions on Iran in 2010.

State Department won’t rule out $50B ‘signing bonus’ for Iran

The State Department on Monday would not rule out giving Iran up to $50 billion as a so-called "signing bonus" for agreeing to a nuclear deal later this year, according to comments made to journalists following reports that the Obama administration had formulated a plan to release tens of billions of frozen Iranian funds.

Experts have said this multi-billion dollar "signing bonus" option, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, could be the largest cash infusion to a terror-backing regime in recent memory.

A cash release of $30 to $50 billion upon reaching a final nuclear agreement would come in addition to the more than $11 billion in unfrozen assets that Iran will already have received under an interim nuclear accord reached in 2013.

S300 barely takes off before plunging back to the ground

Embarrassing footage has emerged of a missile launch going spectacularly wrong in Russia.
The minute-long clip shows the S300 rocket barely managing to take off before plummeting back down to earth.

A small thud can be heard and bits of debris fly off as the weapon makes a feeble attempt to launch at the military base in an unknown part of Russia.

Russia cuts space funding as economic crisis bites

By Jack Stubbs

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia is cutting spending on its space program by more than a third over the next 10 years because of the country's economic crisis, forcing it to scrap plans to develop a super-heavy launch rocket.

Space exploration is a subject of national pride in Russia, rooted in the Cold War "space race" with the United States that saw Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin become the first man in orbit. The collapse of the Soviet Union starved the program of funds, but President Vladimir Putin has nurtured plans for a revival.

Russia is planning to develop its own space station by 2023 but economic constraints are growing.

A spokesman for the Roscosmos federal space agency said planned spending would be reduced by 35 percent to 2 trillion rubles ($37.76 billion), a cut of 850 billion rubles.

The Russian government has trimmed spending plans in most economic sectors as the country heads towards recession, hit by Western economic sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine and a fall in the global price of oil, its main export item.

It appears Russia has rebounded enough to pledge 18 billion to the BRICS eventual bank which is being set up to rival the Western banking and the constant threat of financial war.  Wise move.

Or the Livonian War, the Polish-Muscovite War, the Ingrian War, the Smolensk War, the Russo-Japanese War, the Finnish Civil War and Baltic Civil Wars, the Polish-Soviet War in 1919-1921, or of course, Afghanistan.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Also the first world war. The allied powers eventually won the war but only after Russia was defeated and signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, giving away huge amounts of territory.

What are the history books teaching Russian kids these days? Who lost the Cold War? How's the USSR doing these days?
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

I thought the Russians were particularly stellar in WWI.  It was the returning officers and enlisted men who, disappointed with the leadership, helped touch off the fall of the Tzar.  After all, it was Nicholas' decision to go to the front to personally lead his troops in battle that allowed the expanded influence of Rasputin.

(Larry, we must think alike, because WWI was the first thing that came to mind for me.)

I was also thinking about the afghan war and the possible impact it had on the fall of communism in the Soviet Union.

Actually, the videos are kinda fun.

Reminds me of the Patriotic videos we would sometimes see in school but are now banned by Obama as being too pro-American.
