Title: New Topic is Prostitution?
Post by: on March 07, 2005, 04:51:53 AM
I recently posted a new topic which was deleted because the moderator said it "promoted prostitution."

Actually, anyone who went to this web site and was stupid enough to follow the instructions would not be engaging in prostitution - he would become the victim of theft or robbery.

The "models" used on the web site are cut from fashion magazines. Their office is a national monument. Their Russian "business license" is written in English.

One glance at this web site would reveal its own self-absurdity. Anyone dumb enough to believe that by sending $5000 to a Western Union mail drop he can be delivered a bride from the pages of Elle, no paperwork, deserves to be fleeced.

I posted that message, but I did not dream anyone would take it seriously. I am not surprised that no one here would find it humorous, there are few here who understand games or irony. As far as I am concerned, I don't want to know anything more about people who are only able to see the bad side of things, and turn a joke into a perceived threat.

Faibro,

Humor is good when it is at the right place and when all people understand that you make humor ... the newbies section is not the place... maybe the scam section was better...

Think about a newbies who have read your post before my reply of before Dan remove it... maybe someone have already send money now... who is responsible ?

These site is not new and if they continue, it is because some people have pay them... people who know nothing and who have trust the site... the work of these forum is help newbies and not send them to the wrong place...

Who is responsible?  Why, that would be the adult who sends his money.  That's what a free society is about -- allowing people to make their own decisions and act on them.

If a person acts on things he sees on the Internet, without first thinking of the source and the possible consequences, he has no one but himself to blame.

The Internet (and more specifically, forums) really should be about the free exchange of information and ideas.  Don't come down on Fairbro about this.

People are able to make decision when they know... if they don't know, then they try to learn... These forum is a learn proces for newbies and if you give bad or false information, you are responsible...

I have read the post of Faibro... and i have not feel he make some type of humor... i have feel that he recommend these site to people who wish a more easy way...

And what is special with internet... it is a educational support like a other... Free exchange of information is good, free society is good... but some limit exist by morale of ethics...

I generally agree - however, I feel there are bounds, and posting of information that pertains to prostitution or pornography violates those bounds. Not to mention, there are legal issues one faces if he/she is seen as promoting illegal activity.

I do not believe the ability of this board to offer good, even great, information to help others is sacrificed by establishing that there are boundaries that we will not cross. It is easy enough to find the sorts of material fairbro posted on the internet. One need not find RWD (and will not find RWD) as a source for that sort of material.

Actually, most complaints I have gotten have been to say that I moderate too 'loosely' and am not strict enough about enforcing rules and such. This is the first occasion in which I have been accused of being too rigid.

It really is true what they say about not being able to please all the people all the time ;)

Jim,

I didn't say YOU were promoting prostitution, but the website you posted very clearly promoted prostitution.

In the state where I live (Colorado), prostitution is illegal. I cannot allow the possibility that someone will mis-interpret your post and accuse RWD (and me) of promoting prostitition. Simple as that.

Surely you understand.

BTW - I made certain to conduct all the communications with you off-board. What is your motivation to come on the board and make this issue public?

I have no problem with your decision, Dan.  Your ball, your rules.  I just am tiring quickly of our hall monitor who polices every thread with the only correct way of doing things... His way.  :?

So are the laws concerning prostitution directed towards the "homesite" of the board?  Because, as you know such 'activities' are legal in some parts of the US and generally throughout the world.
