Dan, you need to thanks a Economic Ukrainian site... http://www.finance.com.ua/en/ (http://www.finance.com.ua/en/)

Like with the link of JB, they have a currency converter on own site...

For the webmaster, you can find the html code bellow...

<a href="http://www.finance.com.ua/cgi-bin/getifs.cgi?currency=***/+++&amp;source=NBU (http://www.finance.com.ua/cgi-bin/getifs.cgi?currency=***/+++&amp;source=NBU)" border="0" width="88" height="31" alt="Infinservice company"></a>

For the currency, you have EUR, UAH, USD, RUB... only change the *** and +++ by the desired currency... this give you 12 possibility...

Now, something other again for the webmaster... the same type of pic about weather... choose your model, your city ( country)... simple follow each step at http://informer.hmn.ru/types/en/ (http://informer.hmn.ru/types/en/) ...

And for non webmaster, before your trip, visit http://www.hmn.ru/en/index1.php?code=50 (http://www.hmn.ru/en/index1.php?code=50) ... select your destination city... on the new page, select "weather forecast"... and again on the new page, select the "11 days forecast"... so you will be able to know what clothes take with you :D:D:D

Now I know what the Roman in AD 300 felt like.  Watching the denarii's collapse and realizing the chance to live comfortably away from the Apennine peninsula was also collapsing.

I certainly hope the American government starts stabilizing the dollar.  You noticed that I wrote "hope" and not "expect."  Not only will living in Ukraine become too costly, but also visiting there.

The Ukrainian Central Bank just revalued the grivna at 5.05 to the USD.  I was told that the buy rate for dollars on the street is currently around 4.80 with some exchange kiosks as low as 4.50.

Just returned from Kiev.  The dollar is slowly creeping back up.  In Kiev I saw exchange rates ranging from 4.89 up to 5.11 griv.  The average appeared to be about 5.07

Odd, http://www.xe.com/ucc/ doesn't list Ukraine Hryvnia.  I have noticed USD to Rubles has climbed from 1:27 to 1:28 over the past month.  Ah, http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic does list Ukraine Hryvnia and confirms the rate quoted in the previous post.

Also noticed my Visa card gave me a horrible exchange rate and surcharged a exchange fee on top of that.  My Netbank ATM on the other hand gave me current rates with no surcharge.

The bottom line is that these differences in exchange rates translate litterally to fractions of pennies per dollar in difference.  If getting an additional 0.03569 rubles per dollar is enough to influence a trip decision, then you are in the wrong game.

Suck it up, guys.  We told you this was going to be expensive.

Amen.

I haven't tracked my cost precisely, but so far I'm betting:

$1000 - Memberships, letter translations, flowers, etc. while learning the basics of the game.

$4000 - First trip to Kiev, including gifts I took with, wardrobe updates, Matchmaking services, and expenses while there.  Six potential ladies, dated two.  Second relationship lasted 2 months after trip.  Learned a LOT about myself and the process.

$3500 - WOVO Trip to Omsk, including gifts - stayed with lady and her family.  Came back engaged.

$1400 - Last month since being back from Omsk.  Covers her cost for airfare to Moscow for her and her daughter for Jamaica trip in August, cell phone and internet expense, and other cost we incure associated with dating me (Internation passport, K-1 fees, DHL, luggage, etc.)  Yeah, these are all reasonable cost, it just adds up gents...

Looking forward:

~$9000 - 9 nights in Jamaica in August for the three of us (her, me, and her daughter).

~$100/month in telephone & Internet cost (call twice a day at $0.0625/minute outbound, plus her inbound cell-phone at a somewhat higher rate - call her parents house when she is there to save inbound cost) plus reimburse her parents Internet cost for our e-mails (they get charged on a per-minute basis).

$3000-$4500 airfare for the two of them when they come here in October, high end number if I go to Moscow to escort them back, low-end if I just meet them at Port of Entry to USA.

$1000-$5000 "stuff" needed when they get here.  I really have no idea, but its going to cost something.

Total bill: $25K-$30K.  Obviously the Jamaican vacation is optional, shaving about $10K off that.

My biggest surprise:  Its hideously expensive to fly to/from Omsk.  For example, airfare for the two of them to Jamaica from MOSCOW was $3200, plus another $600 or so round-trip from Omsk to Moscow.

Goombah,

And that's just for starters, wait til she's actually here a year and then check the old bankbook balance.  I think most guys are in for a very big shock.

We have a thread in the "Experienced" Section called: "The real price of marrying a RW", where we have discussed these ideas to some extent.  Might a good idea to bring that to life again.

Read the first page of that thread, and scanned the next too.  Dispite its title, it had very little monetary information in it.

Dan?  Can you move my post into a new thread, perhaps in that section, titled "Monetary cost of seeking and finding a RW"?

I think maybe more of us should post an estimated figure for what we have spent thus far on the process.

I have spent much less than you but we may have different circumstances, salaries, vacation time etc.

It can be done for less but it still adds up to a ton of money over time.

I managed to find her among the first 15 women I wrote to so the agency fee was only $155.00 for 1 year. I made up for this in other areas with gifts,  transportation, interpreter fees, and 3 way calls.

Scroll down to the bottom of the xe.com list of currencies and select show all world currencies and you will find the Ukraine Hryvnia on the expanded list.    The initial list is just of those more commonly sought.

Well I hope that dollar keeps falling.
FSU currencies are pegged to the dollar. So the more dollar falls the more they fall against Sterling
