Hi All,

Merry Christmas!

I've been in stealth mode here for quite some time, but decided it's time to come out of the shadows if for no other reason than to express my appreciation for the wealth of information on this site.  I've learned a lot from my reading and continue to learn new things every day, from both old and new threads.

I don't have any stories or adventures to report yet, but I know my reading here has been very enlightening and kept me from pursuing some false leads.

Thank you to everyone who contributes and keeps the site going, I'll see what I can come up with to add to the mix.

Yes, I've been reading for a little over a year as well, and there's still much to absorb. The recently resurrected threads have made it very convenient to revisit pertinent past discussions. We'll see how the travel situation unfolds for ‘21, if all goes well I'll have an opportunity to contribute a story or two.

In addition to reading, I've been learning the Cyrillic alphabet and working on basic vocabulary. Far from conversational yet, but I've found some decent resources online that have been helpful. I'd be happy to post some of them if anyone is interested.

Welcome aboard
I never mastered the Cyrillic alphabet, got by with transliterations. That was like 26 years ago, today there are apps. The one I use is 'Say Hi' app, best I found for Asia. If you google, I bet you can find a good one for the FSU.

I learned Russian anatomy sitting naked on a bed with a Russian
girl and a flashlight. She would point the flashlight on one of her
body parts and if I got the word right I would get smothered in
kisses.

You wouldn't believe how fast a learner I became. If you have an
opportunity to replicate that learning program I highly recommend
it.

It was a flashlight. She had all the parts, no substitutes, flash cards
or substitutes were needed.

I think what I recall of starting my search here proper about 4-5 years ago now was that there was a lot of info here coming at me from all directions. At the time there was someone's thread, I think a recent newbie, I think they were using Elena's Models or there was some talk on it so it was pertinent to me as I was at the starting out stage also.

I had a different idea of just visiting the FSU for a holiday and seeing if any ladies were open to me, I think I had St. Pete's in mind (don't think I was aware even that I needed a visa for Russia at the time). Well Faux Pas pointed out to me that unless I looked like Brad Pitt then my chances probably weren't best and that I would be better off joining EM. I think he was probably right and that I would have likely have just seen the sights but unless my luck was in it would have probably been unlikely to have met anyone, there's no telling of course but the odds were probably likely poor. At that stage I had never visited anywhere in the FSU.

Some threads were quoted to read also, and I generally gave them a brief going over. I tend to find though with a lot of threads that occur on forums that become lengthy that they can become too lengthy - almost great epics lol.

So idk I think one issue can be having relevant threads near the top of forum topics so as not to be buried. The other is having threads that are not too lengthy. As to be honest the newbie only has so much time, telling him to read, read & read some more is all very well but not many will want to spend several years out just reading the vast volume of 'work' here.

Possibly there could be a section of a few of the best shortest threads that have been dug up copied over to a kind of 'best threads ever for newbies' to read with the threads locked, edited even to cut any waffle out. Group it together under a separate main overall heading for newbies along with 'Introduce yourself' & 'Starting out' forum topics just to make it easier for newbies so they have all the info in one place without having loads to read through.

Just my thought on it all. Any others have any thoughts on this?
